Description of the Marathon vacation home rental

"Your Own Private Island" Seabird Key is a ten acre tropical island hideaway located one-half mile offshore Marathon in the Florida Keys. As our guest, you will have the entire island to yourself, including an exquisite hardwood beach cottage (the only house on the Island) and a 19' Boston Whaler for your personal use. The runabout is used to visit the mainland, go fishing, snorkel on beautiful coral reefs, explore the back-country, or to just enjoy a tranquil sunset cruise. Your home on the Island, which is fully equipped, sleeps eight, and is furnished with nautical antiques and Caribbean accents. Special features include french doors that open onto multi-level porches and decks with a 35' widow's walk which affords 360 degree ocean views and a spectacular panaroma of the bird sanctuary at sunset. A private sand beach with towering palms, chickee hut, hammocks and lounge chairs provides a fantasy setting-right out of Bali Hai. Whether you're sunbathing or exploring the winding trails throughout the island, the ocean breezes and relaxing tranquility will capture your spirit. While you and your group will be the only occupants of "Your Own Private Island," our manager, who lives on the mainland is available 24/7 to assist you as needed. He will greet you upon arrival at our mainland base in Marathon and assist you out to the island.

Area Description

Marathon is the Heart of the Keys and has plenty to keep you busy. The Florida Keys offers 120 miles of perfect balance between natural beauty and extraordinary excitement. And not just because of the legendary fishing and the world's most spectacular dive sites. The Keys is one of the most unique places on earth. Calm. Serene. Laid back. With two oceans full of the world's most sought-after gamefish, grab a fishing pole and get busy. Enjoy fishing for marlin, tuna and dophin on the Atlantic side or try the backcountry for a shot at permit, tarpon, and bonefish. The Dolphin Research Center on Grassy Key is 5 minutes from Seabird and was once the site of Flipper's Sea School where Flipper's original 1950's movie was shot. Travel along the Seven Mile Bridge and discover the beauty of this special scenic drive. Discover what it must have been like to have traveled on Henry Flagler's railroad to Key West. Check out the old conch houses on Pigeon Key, which is accessible from the old Seven Mile Bridge. Visit the spectacular Great Heron National Wildlife Refuge or the Key Deer National Wildlife Refuge. Put on your gear and go for a dive at Sombrero reef or Looe Key National Marine Sanctuary. Take a different approach and discover the kayaking around the inland. Bahia Honda State Park has a georgeous beach, but you'll probably never wish to leave Seabird Key.

Other Vacation Rental Amenities

Seabird offers exclusive use of our 19' Boston Whaler, a 14' Hobie Cat, 3 kayaks, a conoe, large tube for towing behind the Boston Whaler, snorkeling gear, bicycles, a dolphin stroller for the babies, chickee huts, hammocks, tropical gardens, wooden paths that lead to bird watching, and an extensive DVD collection of movies and music for your enjoyment. We have indoor/outdoor speakers and you can even enjoy your favorite music down on the beach. There is an I-Pod docking station, so remember to bring yours so you can enjoy your favorite tunes down on the beach. We offer secure mainland parking located on a nearby canal for total ease of docking and taking your car into town.

Payment Options: Cashier's Check, Mastercard, Money Order, Personal Check, Visa
Check In: 4 p.m.
Check Out: 10 a.m.
Required Stay: Saturday to Saturday
Lodging Tax: 12.5%
Deposits: Deposit of $500 required 72 hours following booking to hold reservation and serve as security deposit. If the reservation is cancelled prior to 60 days before the check-in date, $250 will be refunded and $250 will be held as an administrative fee, but may be applied against a future rental. Rent will be due 60 days prior to check-in.
Other Fees: The above published rates are based on a group of four persons or less. If you have more than 4 in your party, a charge of $375 + tax per extra person is added to the rental cost. Children under 3 are not charged. Christmas and New Year's weeks, add 10%.

The Island was everything a person could ask for in a vacation. Fishing, swimming,scuba diving,snorkling, kayaking, canoing, water skiing. All in the privacy of your own Island. The new outdoor kitchen they have added makes it even more of a paradise.

Granny, in her wisdom and love, gave the gift of a week each on this island to her three children. After our youngest son returned from fishing, we asked, "So what do you think of Seabird Key?" He replied, "It's kind of weird." "Why?" "Well, because I'm only 20 and I know that Seabird Key is the most beautiful place I'll ever be in my life." My, my, how we all love this dear retreat. A thousand thanks to all the creative energy that went into the building of this home, the love and imagination that went into the garden walks on white sand. Forget the Mideast Peace Summit....how about the "Mid-Keys" peace summit? Our world leaders could certainly learn something about peace here! The home & decor are wonderful with no detail overlooked.
