Area Description

The middle keys offer a wide range of available activities including
world renowned sport-fishing, diving and snorkeling, golf,
para-sailing, fine dining, nature preserves and history. The Dolphin
Research Center (one time home to Flipper) is visited by celebrities
worldwide every year who come to swim with the their Dolphins, and
this facility is less than a five minute drive from Keys Paradise 301.
Maybe best classified by its casual environment the Middle Keys are
ideal, being situated less than a one hour drive from Key West and a
few hours South of Miami. Coco Plum Beach is less than one half mile from
this home is one of the Keys most beautiful beach's!

The true home of Flipper! Don't miss this place; they are dedicated to training, studying, and protecting the Dolphins! I recommend reserving a spot to swim with one of the Dolphins, it is well worth the money! Famous people from around the world visit this facility each year because they are the best. You will be amazed at what you will learn and the gift shop is quite nice as well.

Sombrero Beach
Turn left at Kmart on Sombrero Beach Road and you'll find the nicest beach in the Middle Keys. The Keys are not known for their beaches but Sombrero is a beautiful beach and it is right here in Marathon!
7 Mile Bridge

Pigeon Key

A tiny five acre island just below the seven mile bridge was once the home to the workers who built Henry Flagler's Railroad which connected the Keys to northern commerce. Enjoy the relatively long walk along the seven mile bridge to get out to the Island and take the Trolley ride back. Some of you may remember The famed Seven Mile Bridge and Pigeon Key in the movie "True Lies" featuring Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Museum and Nature Center

Museum and Nature Center of Crane Point Hammock

The most important historical and archaeological site in the Keys. Evidence of Prehistoric Bahamian and Colombian tribes are found here. On site you will also find The Museum of Natural History of the Florida Keys, an archive of ancient artifacts found in the area and The Children's Museum of the Florida Keys which is an indoor/outdoor facility with ecological exhibits for the kids!

Don't miss The Adderley home. Early immigrant George Adderley and his Family lived a simple life among tropical trees such as the lignumvitae whose hard wood was once used to make bowling balls. The family survived by making charcoal and gathering and selling sponges.

One trail will take you to the Marathon Wild Bird Center which is a hospital for many of the native birds of the Marathon Area!
Feeding the fish is also a hit with the kids with large resident Barracuda and Shark!
And I have to mention Casa Iguana, the home to many species of Iguanas ranging from 3 to 6 feet long.

Turtle Hospital Educational Tour

Another can't miss experience is the Turtle Hospital Educational Tour which many of our guests have included as a highlight of their vacation. During the Tour you will learn of the many challenges facing the Turtles in todays ocean waters and what we are doing to support their existence now and into the future. Of course you'll also meet Bubble-butt and many of their other residents and have a good time as well.

Price of admission includes an approximate 45 minute educational guide of the hospital with a presentation and a 45 minute guide through the sea turtle rehabilitation area. RESERVATIONS ARE REQUIRED

Great food and service with a huge selection of choices on their extensive menu. The Key Colony Inn is also a great option for families or larger groups, and they also cater on premise functions, such as wedding receptions and anniversary celebrations etc.

Cabana Breezes

A great choice on Key Colony Beach whatever the occasion. They have one of the best views around, elegant outdoor dining and excellent entertainment later on in the evening. A nice place for couples and families!

If you want to impress him or her, don't go anywhere else! Without question, this is the best place around for intimacy and service. I highly recommend that you select prime rib or one of the many cuts of steak here, this is their specialty.

I characterize this place as one of those special finds. Very quaint atmosphere, individual service and gourmet prepared cuisine.

Great wings, the best fish sandwich in the Keys and excellent happy hour prices. The food is good here, whatever you choose and the prices are more than reasonable.

Burdines

I recommend the chips and salsa or the sausage sub which you won't find anywhere else. Another favorite is the hand cut fries and you'll find this to be a great choice for lunch.

Castaway

A Marathon tradition amongst locals and long time middle-keys vacationers. You'll find reasonable selections and a salad bar. They also serve honey buns with every meal, which are their version of fried dough, they are absolutely addictive!

The Island

Fast and friendly bartenders, excellent happy hour prices, great drinks including frozen varieties and its the best place for a classic burger; all with a very nice view of the water on the gulf side.

Keys Fisheries

Self serve dining on their outside deck, which surrounds the restaurant. The specialty there is the Lobster Reuben. They also provide vending machines filled with fish food which you can buy a handful for 25 cents. As you can imagine, this keeps large Tarpon and Snapper around their deck year round. The kids love this place.
