Marquette is home to Northern Michigan University as well as Marquette General Hospital. It also offers many parks and recreation areas, one of which is the beautiful Presque Isle. Jutting out into the lake, it presents you with a picturesque breakwater, picnic area, amphitheater, walking trails, hidden gravelly beaches, and deer wandering freely in the woods.
Area museums and attractions offer insight into the culture and history of Marquette. The Marquette Harbor Lighthouse and Maritime Museum has exhibits to help you visualize life on the Great Lakes' waterways. Visit the Marquette Regional History Center, which brings the history of the Central Upper Peninsula, its people and geology to life with a variety of interactive exhibits.
Marquette is home to several golf courses including the NMU Golf Course only 5 miles west of the cottage, Greywalls Golf Course at the Marquette Golf and Country Club, and Gentz's Homestead Golf Course.
Just 26 miles east of the cottage is the wild and beautiful Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore located at Munising, where you can hike above the cliffs, kayak along the shoreline, or relax and enjoy the breathtaking scenery on the ever-popular Pictured Rocks Cruise.
And if you want to explore more of the Upper Peninsula, many destinations are just a day trip away. To the west, you can experience the historic Copper Country – Houghton (home of Michigan Technological University), Hancock, Calumet, and Copper Harbor. To the east is Sault Ste. Marie, where you can tour the Soo Locks, one of the largest (and busiest) waterway traffic systems in the world.
And don’t forget, Mackinac Island is just 2 ½ hours from the Beachcomber’s Cottage. Visit not just to experience the history of Fort Mackinac, but for the carriage tours, horseback rides, and the famous Mackinac Island fudge.
The Beachcomber's Cottage is waiting for your arrival. Whether you're kayaking the shores of Lake Superior, enjoying the amenities of nearby Marquette, or just relaxing on the beach, Beachcomber's Cottage is the perfect vacation spot and home base for your adventures.

Beautiful and quiet location
October 2, 2014
Our goal was to spend some quiet time walking the shore and watching the water and that was certainly successful. Very nice location and easy to get to Marquette for shopping and dining. Lots of waterfalls, forests and beautiful shoreline in the area. The cottage was well kept and included all the necessities.
Thank you very much for your comments. Located on the shore of Lake Superior, the Beachcomber's Cottage is truly the perfect getaway to refresh, renew, and relax. While enjoying the beauty of the lake and the North Woods, you can also visit Marquette for dining and entertainment, or head to Munising to explore the Pictured Rocks National Shoreline.

A great getaway in Michigan's UP

We loved the Beachcomber's Cottage. It was the perfect size for our family. We loved the direct access to Lake Superior. Also, we enjoyed Marquette and all that it offered. Our weather was chilly for August, but that did not stop us from having a relaxing vacation.
Thanks for your review. An unexpected delight! I'm glad you enjoyed the cottage. Yes, this summer was cooler than normal. However, this fall is turning out to be lovely and we're expecting spectacular fall colors. I'm happy to hear you had a chance to visit Marquette. It offers so many interesting, entertaining, and educational activities, as well as several excellent restaurants.
Just a quick note to say it was a wonderful treat to stay at the cottage this past week. Weather was delightful for sunbathing, golf, and everything else. I saw more lady's slippers blooming at the cottage than I've seen in my whole life combined, awesome! The accommodations at the cottage are superb.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay--the cottage was the perfect place to get away from the BUSY-ness of the world. The lake was magnificent, restaurants were a hit & breezes refreshing. Thanks for sharing.

Simply spending a quiet week in a beautiful setting with family. Sitting on the deck at night watching the sun set and the moon rise.

We've had a terrific week-thank you for sharing your cottage with us. We call it our "Michigan house" and hope to come back every year. This is our 3rd year so far.

We are NMU graduates and every couple of years love to come back to visit. We enjoyed the beach, saw a deer at the lake during sunrise-very pretty. We loved the cabin and all the homey touches. Thank you for having us.
