Description of the Marquette vacation home rental
Our cozy cottage is set along the Sand River in a pine forest next to a gorgeous stretch of sandy Lake Superior Beach. This awesome 2 mile, uninterupted stretch of sand beach of Lake Superior is but a short walk down our private wooded driveway and across the road (see aerial view picture). This several mile stretch of sugar sand beach is known by the locals as some of the best Lake Superior beach around. Virtually no people, no buildings, just clean, fine sand and amazing water. Nestled in the Red Pine forest, between Lake Superior and the Sand River is a little piece of land called Camp Luke Charles. Surrounded by trees in a private setting, the 1500 sq. ft. cottage, sitting high on the Sand River bank, sleeps eight very comfortably. The spacious living room has two, full size, futon couches and two rocking recliner chairs. The dining table can seat up to 10 people with a beautiful view overlooking the gorgeous, winding Sand River. A fireplace rests in the corner of the living room for nice warm feeling. The knotty pine interior wall siding throughout the cottage adds to this nice warm feeling. High speed DSL internet access-ethernet cable supplied, DirecTV satellite TV with DVD is also supplied. Our cottage includes two full baths (1 tub and 1 shower) and a large, modern kitchen with a slider door to a patio. Both rooms fully equipped with everything you need including a washer and dryer area. The cottage at Camp Luke Charles offers an outdoor fire pit with lots of firewood, plenty of parking for anything (even RVs), and wooded multi-use trails right outside the door. Our hiking trail (which crosses the driveway near the cottage) connects directly to the local ATV, snowmobile, crosscountry skiing, and mountain bike trails. Please call Paul or Annie or e-mail for more information.
The pristine Lake Superior Beach is a quick walk down the driveway to the beach. Several American bald eagles have been sighted flying over our area of the beach quite often. Beaver are active in the river and can be spotted swimming and working. A 15 minute drive west to Marquette and a 30 minute drive east to Munising sets us between the two most beautiful and wonderful towns in the UP. The local art culture is very active with music and art festivals all summer long. Featuring the special flavors of Marquette with food and entertainment and many outdoor sports and hobbies. The Sawyer Int'l Airport is 35 minutes away. Local restaurants, grocery stores, gas stations, video rental, and more is a short 15 minute drive. Numerous outdoor activities are on site including Lake Superior beach swimming, fishing, hiking, mountain biking, caoeing, kayaking, ATV, snowmobiling ( connects to UP trail network), cross country skiing, and campfires. With a 20 minute drive you will be ready to downhill ski at Mt. Marquette or ride the awesome mountain bike trails surrounding Marquette and Ishpeming. Charter boat fishing 15 minutes and Pictured Rocks cruises and Grand Island trips only a 30 minute drive. Local attractions also include the Children's Museum, Superior Dome, Lakeview Arena, Mattson Lower Harbor Park, Northern Michigan University, Presque Isle Park, Berry Events Center, and the wonderful historic downtown Marquette. Reviews for this vacation home rental in Marquette, Michigan
What time it is.
What day of the month it is.
What's going on elsewhere in the world.
Time is a walk on the beach.
Stories around the fire.
Picking wild blueberries.
Long walks in the woods.
Kayaking Sand River
Knitting
Watching birds and other little critters
Watching Autumn creep up red on leaves
The day of the month is the sun coming up and going down
it is mass on Sunday
and maybe some time at a festival.
What's going on in the world are matters of the heart and soul-its the pounding surf of Lake Superior, washing grief from the heart.. if only for a moment...
it's live music at the Seafood festival, and watching my sister dance- and seeing joy and light on her face...if only for a moment...and knowing that just for a second, grief, like shards of glass, were under her feet- and she danced, no matter the pain on her bare feet. Cate
