Description of the Mashpee vacation home rental

Our oceanview home by a beach on beautiful Seconsett Island in Mashpee is the perfect place for a restful vacation by the sea. Located by Waquoit Bay, this sunny and cheerful three bedroom home is spacious and clean. Enjoy the breeze on the sun porch while you have your morning coffee or evening drinks.

Walk to the beach on warm salt water Waquoit Bay, an ocean bay. Water temperatures are normally in the high 70s during the summer months - no chilly cold water on the southern part of Cape Cod.

Mashpee Commons is an open air marketplace where shopping, theaters, grocery stores, coffee shops and dining are offered, and it is a short drive away. Our location is away from it all, but near to many attractions.

South Cape Beach is a beautiful long sandy beach, and is only a short ride from the house.

As the owners, we oversee the entire operation of the house and the rental process from the first email inquiry through your check-out.

Area Information

Seconsett Island is an island with direct road access via a causeway where water on both sides greets you on arrival to the island.

Waquoit Bay is a beautiful bay, part of the Waquoit Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve, and is one of the most studied areas to improve coastal ecosystems.

Osprey reside atop a telephone pole at the beginning of the causeway, and you will see them soaring above the water and diving for their fish. Gulls and shore birds are also plentiful, as well as crabs, mussels and other sea life for the nature lovers.

Late June vacation

Sweet house, and an excellent vacation. Although not exactly on the beach, it is situated in a charming, quiet and friendly neighborhood, within an easy walk to one small beach (with the bonus of an active osprey nest, complete with 2 babies) and a 10 minute drive to a gorgeous state beach. Easy drive to shopping & grocery. We had 2 toddlers with us so there was a certain amount of baby proofing to do, getting the seaside decorations out of reach. The owner is accessible and pleasant, although the expectation that we launder all the sheets before leaving was a bit of a pain (but not a deal breaker). I would definitely rent there again.

Owner's reply:

Thank you, Kate! It was a pleasure having you and your family as guests. It pleases me that your stay was an excellent one and I hope you will be able to return in the future! I'm sorry that laundry was a pain, but we do let you know that we will finish what laundry doesn't get done in hopes of making it easier for you. Thank you so much for taking the time to write a review - it is greatly appreciated.

Guestbook

We booked your cottage last minute and didn't know what to expect. We have been oh so much more than pleasantly surprised! The cottage is so cute and so well stocked, we felt very much at home. Everything was here and it was so much more "home" than "cottage'. The kids loved it and so did we. It is a great place and Janet is a great host. (L & M & family)

It is hard to express what a special time we had here on our return trip to Seconsett Island, and choosing between the two cottages is so hard - they are both so special and Janet adds such a wonderful touch to everything, anticipating our every need. Many thanks for a wonderful home away from home. (B & H from Delaware)

This place is totally awesome! It is amazing. What a great job redecorating - we couldn't believe the "before" pictures! Everyone had a great time. We got to go to our favorite bay, and it was so fun to swim and take hikes there. It brought back such memories. We loved staying here; it was one of the best times this summer. Thank you for a wonderful cottage and vacation! (A young lady in the family of 6)

We have never stayed at this end of the Cape and did not know what to expect. It is a lovely place and the scenery is great! The house is very cute and comfortable and new and CLEAN!! Best of all we were allowed to bring our little dogs which just filled our hearts with joy. We think they have had more fun learning how to swim. What a great landlady; we would definitely come back. (D and family)

What else can we say that we haven't before! The cottage was perfect for the location. We discovered the area again after 4 years! Yes, the Cape Cod Potato Chip Factory, the Cape Cod Winery and the Cape Cod Brewery were all good diversions! As always, the beach was great! (The D. Family)

It was very nice to meet you. The 2 cottages worked very well for out of towners! I enjoyed the lilacs. We were all very comfortable and had ample sleeping quarters. Our wedding went wonderful and we were relaxed to know we had our living arrangements ready and waiting for us when we arrived. Thanks again, (M and family)

Frequently Asked Questions

Q:Where is the landlord located?
A:We are a professional couple who live in town (Mashpee) and own the house. We maintain it year round and take care of all of the rental details. Each one of our children and spouses have lived temporarily in the house between job and moving situations, usually in winter, and all have loved the location and peacefulness of the house.
Q:Where is Seconsett Island?
A:Seconsett Island is on the Mashpee/Falmouth border on Waquoit Bay on the southern edge of Cape Cod. Our ocean waters are warm due to the location and the currents. The neighborhood is a quiet residential neighborhood and the nearest convenience store is just a mile away.
Q:What is Waquoit Bay and what can you do there?
A:Waquoit Bay is a tidal ocean bay. There is deepwater access to Nantucket Sound through the jetty in the bay. The bay is popular for swimming, kayaking, canoeing, fishing, wind surfing, boating and many other water sport activities.
Q:Where is the nearest beach?
A:There is a beach within view of the house, and just a short walk onto the causeway access. There is also South Cape Beach State Park about 10 minutes or so away by car.
Q:Do you accept pets?
A:Small dogs are considered; please indicate in your inquiry the type and size of the dog you are asking to bring. There is a pet fee for those approved.

My husband and I have owned this house since 2007, adding to our other rental we bought in 2003. We are residents in town, love the area and the sea, and thought that managing summer rentals would be something that we would enjoy. Through it, we have met so many wonderful people over the years.
