This house was not bad, but not great. It was average. I was not blown away by the house, nor could I complain too much about the issues that I came across. First, the house is in an exceptional location if planning a trip to Massanutten Resort. Less than a mile away and straight down the road. However, the detail of the house is VERY misleading. There is ONE large plasma/LCD TV and that is in the living room. Three of the rooms have TV's and they are 13 inch cube TV's that do not function properly. When we first arrived, the house was invested with lady bugs; I literally mean thousands of live and dead lady bugs. We barely vacuumed them up due to the vacuum not working. One of the rooms is directly connected to another room with no door; it looks like the connecting room was originally a large closet that had bunkbeds and a queen mattress tossed in (just the mattress, no sheets, no box spring, no frame. Just a mattress on the floor). The grill was very dirty and appeared as if it had not been cleaned in some time, but was used anyway. Old crust was adhered to the metal grill. The coffee table was not put together and the legs were not screwed in, so anytime anything was placed on the coffee table, the table fell a part . There was plenty of space (sleeping 18 is stretching it though-they are probably including the downstairs and upstairs counch). The most annoying part about the trip was that there were no bath towels available. I shouldn't say none, but there were only 4 for all 13 guests that we had. Luckily, the majority of us brought our own towels. Overall, the house was a bit of a disappointment, but the resort was ok as well (very crowded and very small). But, the price is great on the house, so I guess you get what you pay for.

Word cannot describe how amazing Bakers’ Black Bear Cabin is. Immaculately clear, spacious, tastefully decorated, high end appliances, meticulously manicured grounds, expansive back deck with breath taking mountain views, and a cozy front deck for morning coffee chats. Our family and friend gathered for my daughter’s JMU college graduation and had planned on going out to eat after the graduation. However, after spending Friday evening in Baker’s Black Bear Cabin we all agreed to eat back at the cabin so we could enjoy all the amenities this mind-blowing rental had to offer. Since our daughter graduated from JMU we really don’t have a reason to go back to the Harrisonburg area but we may just to gather with friends and family to enjoy all that Bakers’ Black Bear Cabin has to offer.

This house was great. I loved the decor and beauty of the home. Had trouble with the Direct TV in the Master bedroom but Mr. Baker came right away and sadly it could not be fixed, (new box had to be ordered) there was many other tvs to choose from so it did not damper our plans. The kids loved the downstairs game room and played many games of pool. The grounds were perfectly manicured and my husband took a lovely hike in the forest. We all had a relaxing Memorial Day weekend...would love to come back in the fall.

This property is absolutely amazing! The views are breath taking. The property had every thing we needed to ensure a luxurious weekend retreat in the great out doors. My friends and I had a fantastic time. We are planning our return in 2013.

A very nice house that needs some simple tweeks by the owner. A 4 yr old child locked herself in a room and it took 40 min. to get a key, the keys should be in the house. The manager that unlocked the door thanked us for calling because the last time a child got locked in they kicked the door in. Hello!?? The WiFi only works for pc's and only in certain parts of the house. Your smart phones and ipads will not get the WiFi. 8 bedrooms should have 4 baths and 2 refrigerators, not 3 baths and 1 fridge. Area rugs would help the noise which carries throughout the whole house. Nice hot tub, nice property, great views, nice location and good value. I'd stay again but will look more carefully for my next choice.

A good location for various places, including Shenandoah and Massanutten Park. The house had all the amenities as described. Very safe and secured. Having said that we had multiple troubles in the house. 1. It was raining two days in a row and having reached the cabin late night, the car would just not climb up on the uphill driveway. We had to park the car on the street and before we could wake up and try to pull in the car, we had received tickets. It took $80 to pay simple ticket. 2. The sofa and beds were so dirty, with semen and other stains all over. The beds were very uncomfortable and no way any parent would put kids on the bunker beds present.

I almost didn't want to write a review and spread more news about how awesome a place the Chalet is for a group of friends to get together and have a great time. I figured the less people who know, the better! During our last meal, one friend of mine mentioned returning and everyone echoed his sentiments. We loved the smell when we walked in, the deck, the long table that could accommodate our party of 10, the games, and the large common room. While I didn't do the cooking, the people who did seemed to enjoy the kitchen. We spent two nights and two days there this past weekend, and we had a blast when it came to foosball, ping pong, relaxing and talking. We used the Chalet as a basecamp to drive to hike Old Rag and wine taste at Barboursville after eating at the Palladio. Sadly, we wished we'd actually spent more time at the Chalet and debated canceling a great meal at the Palladio to just relax. Next time, we'll still eat at the Palladio but stay one more day at the Chalet. To give a full, review, the driveway is quite challenging for a driver who isnt willing to charge forward (it's steep as can be) and noise carries from room to room and into the road below. However, if you like who you are traveling with though and plan as exhausting a set of days as we did (or take advantage of the many rooms and spacious deck which the picture doesn't do justice) the price and setting are right.

We rented this property the weekend after New Year's for our in-laws anniversary. The property itself is beautiful and we felt it was a good value for the number of family members we had attending. We had a wonderful time, but there were a few things that would have made the trip a little better. The user manual that was left for many of the appliances and systems in the house was lacking. In particular, we had issues with the gas stove, the wireless internet and the cable package provided. We did call our local contact for the wireless internet and cable questions but were unable to reach a satisfactory solution. Unfortunately, the cable package did not include major network television channels and it was football playoff weekend. The Cowboy fans in the house were not happy. We tried to use one of our computers to connnect to the game using the wireless router and it became unavailable and needed to be reset. We were unable to make that happen. The property is extremely family friendly and we made many great memories there. If we had the opportunity to return at a later time, we certainly would because the house was well suited to our large crowd.

Overall, we were extremely pleased with our stay with only a few minor exceptions- the master suite's bedroom and bathroom were extremely cold and were later told the temperature controls for that area didn't work. Also, for the 1st 2 days, the dishwasher didn't work which made it difficult cleaning up after 13 people. We also would have hoped the kitchen to be a little more equiped with serving-type plates. We were extremely pleased with the spaciousness of the bedrooms & kitchen, we really enjoyed the hot tub & fire pit and didn't find the drive to the ski resort at all a problem. It was a great retreat for me and my family and we would do it again!
AMAZING PROPERTY -- THE PICTURES DO NOT DO THE PLACE JUSTICE. NOTHING WAS OVERLOOKED IN THIS CABIN! WE HAD A FABULOUS TIME!
