perfect size for our family and friends....

October 16, 2012

This house was perfect for our family as it was so close to JMU where our son is. The "adults" could socialize downstairs while the 20-something "kids" could hang upstairs. House was clean and nice to have all towels and sheets provided. Nice also to be at the end of a cul-de-sac; felt very private. Our dog loved it, too. A few things could have made this a 5 star rating: both tv remotes didn't work, so we had to sit by the tv to change channels on the cable box. (back in the '60's that wouldn't have been a problem...but these days it's a real pain); downstairs shower curtain kind of gross; no window shade in upstairs master bedroom; would have been very helpful if a map of Massanutten or at least a list of nearby restaurants was left in the house; I actually bought a dust pan [which I left there] since I couldn't find one when I went to sweep the floors. All in all, the "problems" with the house were relatively minor...[well, maybe except for the remote controls which was a little more major issue] and would definitely rent it again in the future (but not sure it will be on the rental program because the house is for sale)

OK for the price in Massanuten

April 21, 2012

We stayed 9 days for a cycling trip in the Massanuten area. we were 11 people at a time. Overall the stay was well appreciated. It's well located. The cottage is a bit small for such a number of people, moslty to the fact that it's an older cottage with less open space and sub-divison (kitchen) pretty narrow. Also beds for people over 9 are thin matress on the floor which are not that comfy. Service for booking was excellent. Small details like the appliances (bbq, toaster,...) are due to be updated, but since it's not new and we have paid 1000$ less than newer cottages, it's OK. Overall, you have what you pay for, if you are looking for a luxury cottage, don't go there, but if you are looking for an affordable, well located and complete cottage, it's a good choice.

Great Place

We stayed in this house for a few days during our spring break. The location is great...quiet...at the end of a street but central and easy to get to everything. Very well equipped. Highly recommended.

great find

February 16, 2011

This was the easiest property I've ever rented. This home is very private tucked at the end of a street. Rooms are very private, and home is way bigger than it seems. Fully equipped kitchen all the way down to the tin foil and cleaning supplies. Owner is very kind and easy to work with. Security deposit was refunded under 24 hours. We had a wonderful trip, and made memories to last. Don't over look this home, It's a great find! Thanks you to the Rogers family for sharing your home!

Fun!

January 26, 2011

I stayed in the Mountainside Villas along with 6 other people. Everything was PERFECT, especially the incorporated Sauna in the master bathroom. The jacuzzi was pretty nice too, but there was only so much hot water for it. I slept on a pull-out couch and ended up putting the mattress on the ground, which was a little more comfortable. You'll find everything you need in these townhomes. Plenty of towels for a 7 people for at least a weekend. I do suggest you bring a nice cozy blanket if you go during the winter time. Another cool amenity was a grill on the kitchen counter top. It allowed for quick warm sandwiches and hot dogs. :) Good experience. I'd live in it if i could.

Cosy and convenient

January 20, 2011

This rental is welcoming, spacious and good value for money. The beds were comfortable, and there were books, games, wireless Internet, cable TV, and all the kitchen necessities to make our stay comfortable. The owners even arranged for the lights to be left on for us because we were arriving late, which was a nice touch. I would definitely rent this property again.

Idyllic retreat, great for family gathering

January 3, 2011

This lovely home served us very well to gather with other family members and celebrate together. Wonderful hills for vigorous cold-weather hiking; warm hospitable space to return to. Very well outfitted and equipped for home away from home. Highly commend it.

Family Holiday Ski Retreat

January 3, 2011

Great stay on the mountain. The house, owner and total experience were absolutely first class. This house has the perfect location on the mountain and more room than most have at home. The layout is good when you have kids...the downstairs is accessible but secluded. We were vacationing at Massanutten the week of Christmas to New Years with family and friends and could not have picked a better house. There were two wood burning stoves with more firewood than you could ever use. Five bedrooms, three bathrooms, and easy parking for several vehicles at the end of the drive. Everything was clean, cozy, and comfortable. If you are looking for a house to rent you can't go wrong here. Electronic locks made it easy for all to get in and out without keeping up with keys. The only possible downside is there is one tv downstairs...hard to to amicable with a house full of football fans wanting to watch different games. Can't mention enough how easy the owner was to work with...excellent communication. Deposit was even refunded within 24 hours! First class from start to finish.

Mountain Retreat Massanutten

December 22, 2010

We had a wonderful time; however my wife and I spent one entire day cleaning the house. The bathrooms were clean as well as the stove, but dust literally was hanging from the ceiling in the kitchen. We had to use a broom to dislodge the hanging dust and then vacuum the dust from the floor and countertops. I had to clean the filter and empty the dirt from the vacuum before I could use it because it was so clogged it prevented the vacuum from operating properly. We also had issues with the gas fireplace which need to be serviced and it also had a heavy layer of dust and dead moths in it. The dish washer did not work properly (it NEVER turned off by itself). We did call maintenance and the realtor and they were both very helpful. We feel that we should be reimbursed for the 100.00 cleaning fee as we left the house cleaner than we found it. It snowed and I had to buy a snow shovel as there was none in the house. I also bought and repaired the cue tips for the pool table, which were missing for quite some time according to the “Guest Book” in the house. The house is nice but the cleaning and service needs to be addressed.

A Great Time

October 4, 2010

We rented this house for a family get together. We normally rent houses at the beach so this was a different experience for us. We had a great time! The house was very clean and was larger than the pictures show. It is very cozy and sits on a cul de sac, away from the main road. It is very close to JMU and restaurants and stores. The beds were very comfortable and the comforters in great shape (this isn't always the case when you rent.)We would definitely rent this house again.

House Cleaner Wanted!

June 30, 2010

First place we've stayed where we felt the need to clean before relaxing. Washed each dish, utensil, pot, and pan before using them. Scrubbed kitchen sink, faucet, & countertop before unloading groceries. Washed stove top. Did not clean microwave-you can see for yourself how dirty that is. Overflowing trash cans greeted us (out on the street in front of the house) when we arrived (offensive first impression). All un-carpeted floors were dirty and sticky (wouldn't walk around in bare feet). We purchased air freshener to use as the house smelled like cigarette smoke (all of us noticed this). Closets in bedrooms were messy-some looked like items had been tossed in. Great location-peaceful and quiet. Nice house in desperate need of a major cleaning. Don't think we'd return.

Great time in Masanutten

June 29, 2010

The pictures on the VRBO website don't do this house justice. It is lovely, situated at the end of a winding road in the woods. Well furnished, lovely rooms, a porch that looks out over the trees. The kitchen is well stocked with dishes, pots and pans, utensils. There's a large living room/dining room combination and we enjoyed sitting around the dining table and lounging in the comfy couches. The linens are quite attractive and the beds are comfortable. No one complained. Everyone enjoyed their stay and we would go back there in a minute.

NOT SO GREAT

June 22, 2010

We recently had a family reunion in this house. Lots of parking. However, some areas of the house were not very clean, such as the bathrooms, the fan in the kitchen, linens were not clean, the air conditioner vent was dirty. We do not know if the cleaning people were not thorough but since we had to pay a cleaning fee we felt that it should be much cleaner than it was.

WORST EXPERIENCE EVER

February 23, 2010

I have been renting vacation rentals by owner for more then 10 years but this was by far one of THE WORST EXPERIENCE I had. After exchanging some e-mails with the owner (Moira) she explained that the bad ratings were addressed. Once we got in there we did not find a way to ski in/ski out and I called the property manager and he confirmed: THIS HOUSE IS NOT A SKI IN/SKI OUT as mentioned in the listing. Also in the day we were leaving I called the property manager to request a late check out and he said I should try to call the onwer and I explained him that in a previous discussion with her she said she is very flexible with that and he said he does not see a problem with that. Based on this discussion we were late on the check out. The next day after the rent I receive an e-mail from the owner stating that she found the house in very good shape that she will withhold from the deposit an extra day. I contacted her and after an exchange of e-mails and after she checked with her property manager which confirmed our conversations she let us know that she decided to do not refund us since there should have been a written agreement for late check out. The price for the house was small but the security deposit was one of the biggest I ever paid and I start to realize now that all is with a reason. One thing is sure we will never go back and after our experience I would NOT RECOMMEND anybody to go.

Home away from home

February 2, 2010

We only stayed for a couple of nights but it was just as cozy as home and everything you could ask for was provided. The owner was very involved and the entire rental process was amazingly simple. Nestled quietly on a cul de sac right in Massanutten's resort so you're only minutes from the slopes, the water park, go karts, and some awsome snow tubing. Highly recommended with plenty of room and lots of amenities.

Great rental for the holidays

January 5, 2010

Our family gathered in this house for 3 days over the New Year's holiday; and it was a great setting for our reunion. The bedrooms are spread out and give a nice amount of privacy. The kitchen, bedrooms, and baths were well supplied. We loved the wood stove. The wooded setting was private, quiet, and lovely.

Nice home

Owner was excellent in her responses to inquiries and requests. Some clarity re types of beds and or additional pictures would be nice. Linens were supplied and clean, only no washcloths to be seen anywhere. Wish I knew...

greatest vacation

April 27, 2009

We had our greatest vacation in this house. Area is very quite and nice because the house locates at the end of the other houses. Plenty of nice comfortable rooms. The house and the area is child proof so you can enjoy your vacation with your family without any problem. Booking process is very easy. I would highly recommend this house to anyone especially to larger groups of people.

Pleasant stay!

April 14, 2009

I booked this house and stayed two nights with my family and couple friends. The booking process with the owner is very easy and nice. The house is very cozy and it has plenty of rooms. Lots of game for kids to play. Nice mountain view. very convinient location. The owner provided lots of house keeping stuff to use, very handy! We had very good time staying there, and I will recommend this house to any other friends who plans to go there.
