Description of the Merida vacation home rental

totally renovated house with lap pool and guest house. Located near downtown and historical sites. Front garden is enclosed by wall, back garden has fountain, terrace and lap pool. Quiet neighborhood with easy access. parking for one car in front garden. King size bed in Master bedroom and guest house has two twin beds. T.V. with cable and internet hookup. Kitchen equipped conveniently. A/C in master bedroom. Included is one day cleaning per week and pool maintenance.
Bathrooms with talavera tiles, floor Mexican pavers. Very colorful and beautiful house. Easy to live in.
The house is located in a quiet mixed neighborhood of residential and commercial buildings. There is a vegetarian restaurant next door. Within two blocks you can find 10 restaurants. Nearby are some large hotels like the Hyatt with spa services and car rentals. There is an ATM in Fiesta Americana hotel as well as two lovely restaurants. There is a WalMart on Paseo Montejpo, 3 minutes by bus.
The house is located near public transportation which can take the traveler to various parts of the city. There is a medical Clinic one block away and various other shops and other services very near by.
The historical downtown is 6 minutes away by bus, featuring the cathedral, Casa Montejo and the Main Plaza. Here every Thursday through Sunday night there are dance and song and music performances, as well as opportunities to sit in a cafe and join in the dancing yourself.
The bullring is 3 blocks from the house. In addition to bullfights, a variety of performances are held in this facility.

Merida is the capital of the state of Yucatan. It is located near many beaches and small fishing villages to the north (20 - 30 min) the largest of which is Progreso. To the east there is the biological preserve of Celestun, also very close.
Various Mayan archeological sites abound in the area such as Chichen Itza, Uxmal, Labna. there are also natural caves to explore and sink holes (cenotes) of fresh water to swim in.
Dotting the area around Merida are haciendas that have become beautiful restaurants or spas or hotels. These are nineteenth century buildings that have been resored to their past grandeur.
A 4 hour drive and you are in the Riviera Maya, with white beaches and turquoise water.

We spent a wonderful and relaxing week at casa maria. Although in the middle of a bustling city, once inside and surrounded on all sides by the high walls, you have total privacy and quiet. The house is nicely decorated and comfortable; my wife loved all the pastel shades. The lap pool was surprizing large although a bit cold during our January stay. Although the historic district is not within walking distance, its an easy 5-10 minute car ride(private parking lots in the center were plentiful and inexpensive). And lots of good and inexpensive restaraunts (and shopping) can be found close by. A great alternative to a downtown hotel (as long as like us, you can forego the maid service).

this wonderful house and garden with pool offered up a respite from the turmoil and traffic of the center of town. We loved coming home after a busy day.
