*
Trap Pond State Park
Freshwater wetlands once covered a large portion of southwestern Sussex County. Trap Pond State Park retains a part of the swamp's original beauty and mystery, and features the northernmost natural stand of Bald Cypress trees in the United States.
Prime Hook National Wildlife Refuge was established in 1963 under the authority of the Migratory Bird Conservation Act for use as an inviolate sanctuary, or any other management purpose, expressly for migratory birds. It is located on the west shore of Delaware Bay, approximately 22 miles southeast of Dover, the State capital, and 64 miles southeast of Wilmington, Delaware.
The refuge is considered to have one of the best existing wetland habitat areas along the Atlantic Coast. The intensively managed freshwater impoundments have become important stop-over sites for spring and fall migrating shorebirds and wading birds. Endangered and threatened species management activities provide habitat for the Delmarva fox squirrel, nesting bald eagles and migrating peregrine falcons. Neotropical land birds passing through utilize the refuge's upland forested habitat during the fall and spring. The refuge's 10,000 acres are a diverse landscape featuring freshwater and salt marshes, woodlands, grasslands, scrub-brush habitats, ponds, bottomland forested areas, a 7-mile long creek, and agricultural lands. These cover types provide habitat for approximately 267 species of birds, 35 species of reptiles and amphibians and 36 different mammals.
Public use at Prime Hook provides compatible wildlife-oriented recreational opportunities. Since the signing of the National Wildlife Refuge System Improvement Act of 1997, appropriate public uses of the Refuge System include six major wildlife-dependent recreational uses and are: hunting, fishing, wildlife observation, photography, environmental education, and environmental interpretation.
The Refuge is open 1/2 hour before sunrise to 1/2 hour after sunset.

Beach chairs waiting for you!
July 9, 2012
Arrived in the middle of a July heat wave to a delightfully quirky little dollhouse of a beach cottage! It was clean, comfy beds, glorious view of the water, and best of all.....4 beach chairs waiting for you at the top of the beach. Spent a relaxing week in those chairs! The house was perfect for us (3 adult women, ages 56 - 92) The beach-level deck "boardwalk"out to the beach made it perfect for older guest using a walker, as did having the main bedrooms on one floor. Loved checking out the different sea-life (horseshoe crabs, blue, black snails, turtles). Close enough to Milford and Lewes for groceries, shopping, etc, . The locals were so friendly; inviting us to share a bonfire, or join their tent at the July 4th Regatta. A great selection of movies and toys for anyone visiting with families/children. Best of all, was a great place for our 2 dogs to romp in the sand and enjoy the water without being overcome by huge waves. Would definitely recommend this cottage and woudl most definitely stay there again! The owners were very responsive to my emails and provided a great Welcome Book with interesting factts, articles and helpful info.

Lovely place to stay
September 18, 2011
I have stayed at this beach house with friends every August for a few years now and I absolutely love it every time! The house is adorably decorated and can sleep a lot of people! The porch in the back is perfect for cook outs, tanning and relaxing. The bay is always pleasant to go swimming in, I suggest taking an inflatable tube or chair out there, it is soooo relaxing. This is a great place for a beach getaway especially if you want to avoid the crowds but still get in some sun and fun in the water. And the great thing is if you feel like going into the busier areas where Rehoboth and other beaches are it is only a short drive away. Overall, I highly recommend the place and will continue going back there every summer with friends!!

Awesome place for kids and pets!
August 19, 2011
Absolutly loved the cottage at the bay! Family and pet friendly. A+++! Rooms were immaculate. Has everything you need as far as cooking/cleaning ammenities. My daughter (2year old) loved the beach here as opposed to Roehobeth's the large waves were too much for her. The low tides at the bay were much better, she wasn't scared at all. Also Seashell hunting was excellet there. It was great also because it was QUIET. If you needed anything you are a 20 min drive from either Dover or Roehobeth, so you can still do all the fun boardwalk things. The people that lived in slaughter beach were also very friendly and kind to both my family and my dog. Would recommend to anyone!

Great Getaway!
August 5, 2011
The house was wonderful! A few college friends and i wanted a change of pace from the usual va beaches and were thrilled to stay here. We wanted to be close enough to the Rehobeth area to go out a few nights, but far enough so as to avoid the daily traffic, congestion, and hubub of overcrowded vacay areas. We LOVED being able to relax and reconnect here! It is a definitely go if you want to get away and appreciate the beauty of the Deleware Bay and natural dunes.

LOVE THIS BEACH HOUSE!
August 4, 2011
This beach house is great if you are trying to get away from the crowds at nearby Rehobeth and is right on the water for quick beach access. Perfect for lazy summer days by the water and for young children that are not ready for the ocean. I have been to this beach house several times and have taken advantage of the nearby tennis court and play ground, and loved grilling out back and making bonfires on the beach at night. Perfect for family reunions and get-togethers with friends. The house has a friendly charm and room for the whole extended family. The neighborhood is quiet and the neighbors are very friendly if you happen to spot one! I highly recommend this house and using all the beach amenities it has to offer!
