We just came home from an Easter week-end at a log cabin home in Spring Lake, MI. It was the 7th annual event for my family who traveled 6-7 hours from IL and PA. Cabin was nice, surrounding area, beautiful, however, the cleaniness of the cabin was rated a 2 on a scale of 1-10 with 10 being the highest. Beer cans and open beer can left on counter, end tables, garbage at entrance, garbage in waste baskets, mice droppings in kitchen pan pantry and under sink, dried tooth paste in master bath sink and floors left un-vacumed. 2nd night stay, no hot water only to discover the propane tank had ran out leaving us to heat water on stove to sponge bathe before attending Easter Church service. If we had another option, we definately would had walked away and asked for a full refund on this property. We may be back in this area, as the area was beautiful but we definately will not be staying again at this home.

The amenities such as two pools, hot tub, basketball court, and tennis courts were great and well used. The house is dated with some deferred maintenance but clean and definately provides all you need. Grocery is about 0.5 mile away. Had a great time with 15 people.

Our family including children, spouses, and grandchildren, just spent one week in this home. It was in town, yet so secluded we felt as if we had no neighbors. We had easy access to many activities, with a wonderful local grocery store three minutes away. It had plenty of room to sleep 14 (four families). The yard was large and the back lot was fenced in, which made it nice for families with small children. The pools, tennis courts, hot tub and basketball court were very clean and well-kept. The owner of the property even stopped in mid-week to check the pool. The home was clean too, could use some updating, but was still very nice. Overall, we had a wonderful experience and would rent it again if we went to that area.

Pros -Enormous house with plenty of room to spread out -Large, modern kitchen with plenty of seating -Great little nooks like the sunken TV room -Plenty of beds and bedrooms -Jim's willingness to allow you to have a large number of people for one price -Variety of activities on site: pool, hot tub, tennis court, gymnasium -Very secluded -Lots of towels Cons -Landscaping is a weedy mess. The pictures make it look very flowery and beautiful. That is no longer the case. It’s now overgrown with 3 ft tall weeds. -The house was very dirty despite having just been cleaned by a cleaning service. -Lots of mildew growth in the indoor pool house -We arrived thinking we would have access to everything on the site, but the outdoor pool was being repaired, so there was just a large gaping hole outside. Thankfully, we didn’t have children there. It would have been a huge hazard if little ones were present. It would have been nice to know about this BEFORE we arrived. We did have the indoor pool. -Hot tub needs a railing or non-skid stickers. One of the ladies slipped on the step and fell into the hot tub. She had several injuries. -Bed linens were used and one comforter had white crusty stuff. We washed all our linens and remade the beds before sleeping. -Filthy, stained, stinky pillows. -Lots of exposed electrical wires inside and on the pool deck. -The basement has a corner that leaks. When you get out of the bed, you step on the wet carpet. Also, that bed is held up on 1 corner by a phone book. -Filthy fridge with lots of spilled mess in it. -All outdoor sliding glass doors have broken locks, so the property is unlocked at all times. -The basement smells strongly of mildew Overall, would I stay there again? If all the hazards were repaired, yes. As is, no way. I also think Jim needs to hire a new cleaning service. The house has obviously seen its fair share of college parties and I don’t blame Jim a bit for adding no décor or breakables because of that. We felt very deceived about the outdoor pool and we should have been told about that up front. He emailed me later to tell me that he cleaned the mildew in the pool house and sealed the exposed wiring. Jim offered us a refund of $250 plus ½ the cleaning deposit, totaling $312.50. That made the price for 2 nights roughly $1000. We felt that was fair and gladly accepted it. I sure hope he keeps this place in a little better shape. It could have a lot of charm.

Funny you should ask about a review. I wish I could submit a review but I never received a reply to my inquiry about this property despite several attempts - thus had to choose an alternate property. Very disappointed.

Lots of space, including lots of parking. Pools and BB court fantastic. However, basement very musty with mold/mildew in some areas (could not sleep down there). Great (big and clean) kitchen, but bedroom floors/bathrooms not as clean as could be. Need better description of what provided/not (washcloths, pans, hot pads among items not provided). Owner very nice.

Quoted one price and charged another. Extremely slow at getting back to me on availability of dates etc... a real time waster.

This place was flat-out amazing. We had 11 people stay over (comfortably) and there was an almost infinite amount of room for activities. 2 Swimming pools, a basketball court, a hot tub, 5 big TV's, comfortable couches, an enormous kitchen and a big field/park right around the corner. Hundreds of towels provided, as well as blankets, sheets and a cleaning service to pick up after us. A+ experience, would go back again in a heartbeat.
