Description of the Montignac vacation villa rental
Le Pible sits in the most tranquil and peaceful location tucked beneath the medieval village of Montignac Le Coq, within a charming corner of rural south west France. This pretty 18th century farmhouse has a warm country feel, full of traditional French charm. A friendly atmosphere extends throughout the house and its open layout features a pretty and fully equipped farmhouse kitchen. Immaculately appointed throughout; simply furnished - complimenting lovely limed oak beams and the warm tones of it's old stone walls. Large double doors filter the morning sun & warmth in from the flower-filled courtyards and others lead to it's large sun-drenched terrace with views. Laundry & 2 family shower rooms. 4 pretty French country bedrooms. The 10m x 5m pool shelters within the ruined walls of an old barn. Carefully tendered gardens offer quiet shady corners and family fun! Ideally suited to those in search of peace and tranquillity: Our excellent reviews say it all!!
The wonderful south west facing terrace is bathed in sunshine for breakfast, shaded for lunch, and ideally placed for enjoying the sun go down over the hills, at the end of a perfect day! There is table tennis in the open barn and bicycles on site for exploring country lanes and tracks. But if finding a little corner to read your book in dappled shade is the order of the day, then look no further! a seat under the mature trees, is the perfect spot! A telephone is installed which not only accepts all incoming calls, but can be used for outgoing calls with the use of a standard phone card, easily purchased locally. We have wireless broadband at Le Pible. There is satellite television with BBC, ITV, News, films, Radio, children's channels etc plus a DVD player. Although the farmhouse is certainly suitable for elderly folk, it's not suitable for the disabled.
Area Description
Montignac Le Coq is in the ancient region of Aquitaine, on the border between the Charente and Dordogne. Gently tour along the quiet country lanes to beautiful ancient cities such as Perigueux and Angouleme each brimming with a history of invasions and controversy and yet now their tiny medieval streets are filled with enchanting shops, cafés and interesting features - take time to savour local restaurants spilling out across the numerous picturesque and bustling squares! Le Pible sits amongst the perfect countryside for avid ramblers or for those who enjoy a gentle stroll along the white stone tracks that criss-cross through the fields of sunflowers, golden corn and wildlife. Fabulous beaches with surfing waves are within an hour and half drive, and nearby rivers make memorable picnic locations. Meander gently down the River Dronne in a canoe or pony trek through the stunning countryside, these and many other activities are all readily available. There are several 9 & 18 hole golf courses within 40 minute drive.
CLIMATE IN SOUTH WEST FRANCE: In this corner of France we are generally regarded as enjoying a 'Micro Climate'; tucked well into the Bay of Biscay and generally out of the way of weather fronts coming up from the Atlantic. They say we have the second highest levels of sunshine in France and certainly you'll find the light is always clear and fresh. Spring comes early and temperatures can be in the 20's from March onwards: the skies are a piercing blue while the migrating birds pass overhead. Summer sees temperatures peaking on occasions up to 40 degrees, when, thankfully, the pool is there to keep you cool! Autumn is another wonderful time of the year in this Perigord region when colours of the autumn trees and hedgerows are exceptionally beautiful and the days are warm but the nights take on a chilly air. Even winter brings a quiet and sometimes cold air, misty days where the scent of burning oak hangs over the valleys until the sun burns through the winter skies and Spring is just around the corner once again.
A wonderful choice of local restaurants mix culture and cuisine, both musically and artistically, and there is a wide selection to suit all tastes and pockets. From simple omelettes with wild mushrooms, to exquisite regional delicacies such as pan fried duck breast, thinly sliced and served on a bed of apple and fennel, whose flavours are enriched with the addition of locally produced foie gras and a hint of cognac! A folder in the house provides up to date details of the best places to choose from! Lively outdoor markets provide all the necessary ingredients for alfresco dining: from fresh olives, patés and orchard fruits to wines and cheeses from every corner of France!

For 30 years we have spent many holidays in this lovely part of France staying in various properties, some good, some not so good. Three years ago we found Le Pible and our search for the perfect place is over.
We will be returning for our sixth visit this summer - what more can we say?
The setting, the house, the amenities and the tranquillity altogether make it the idel location to spend a relaxing holiday.
Beautifully restored by owners Johnathan and Jane nothing has been forgotten for the comfort and convenience of guests.
As hosts they are discreet yet always available to help and advise.
We have no hesitation in recommending Le Pible,
for us it is idyllic!

Le Pible is a beautifully restored farmhouse, where every attention to detail has been met for a relaxing stay. It is set in it's own little hamlet with only the owners for neighbours. It is perfect for a totally relaxing holiday, with activites should you want them, such as walking, cycling and swimming in the lovely pool which is set amongst old walls . We enjoyed our stay so much that we booked for 2008 on our return from our holiday.

Our second visit to Le Pible was every bit as good as the first. In fact it felt like we were coming home. If you are looking for excellent accommodation, friendly and knowledgeable hosts, who are discreet, but there should you need them, and set in lovely countryside, then you need look no further than Le Pible. Almost afraid to recommend it too highly in case we are unable to book ourselves.

This is a beautiful house and location for those who like rural French holidays. The house is just as described in the pictures and text on the websites.
Jane made sure that we had everything we needed when she introduced us to the house. We were a large group of four adults, two teenagers, two children and a baby, but there was plenty of room for everyone in the open plan accommodation and the bedrooms. Everything is spotlessly clean in the house, and the gardens and pool area are immaculate. It is entirely safe for young children who have the freedom to roam, and if they are still for long enough will be able to watch the red squirrels at play or glimpse the field mice foraging underneath the old wall for acorns, as well as myriad displays of butterflies and other beautiful insects in the lush garden bushes. Outdoors really is as beautiful as indoors here.
On a birthday day we held a grand family boules match whilst the baby slept, but anyone not wanting to join in would have had plenty of other activities to play with in the barn. The pool was a complete hit with everyone, especially when lazy informal lunches at the poolside limited interruption to playtime. Was the six week old baby the youngest person to dip a foot in this pool? Johnny was amazing with the children and teenagers – they were always looking out for him to have a chat and were thrilled to be offered a ride on his little tractor and trailer.
The local village has everything you need where friendly local shop keepers will chat whilst you chose produce to prepare in the spacious, well maintained kitchen back at the house. The local bakery even made an impromptu birthday cake for us which was delicious.
We all loved Aubeterre sur Dronne with its buzzing local square on market days, turning into a lively and welcoming space to enjoy an al fresco meal at one of the restaurants. We ate here twice. The girls loved the little shops and bought more than they should! You don’t have to venture as far as we did to La Rochelle and Bordeaux, both stunning places to visit, but beautiful Angoulême is much nearer and we were sad that we’d missed this out except for a very short trip.
Our abiding memory of this holiday is the beauty and tranquility of the place. All the desired elements were there and it did not disappoint.
Thank you to Jane and Johnny for a lovely holiday.
