The metro, underground city, lively Crescent street and Montreal's premiere shopping thoroughfare, Ste Catherine street, are all mere minutes away on foot. Fine restaurants, Museums, galleries, live theatre and dance performances all within a few minutes by foot or car.

This congenial hotel, nestled in between Old Montreal and Downtown, is a perfect base for exploring both areas. Although the beautifully restored townhouses don't boast views of the cityscape, they benefit from inspirational interior design and as the name implies (and the breakfasts prove), mornings are gratifying.

Vibrant artwork by local artist Benoit A Coté adds exuberance to the brick walls and wooden floors of guest rooms. Many of the regular rooms have tons of extra space, and some exhibit a romantic wood-burning fireplace. The deluxe rooms have whirlpools big enough for two, and apartments have courtyards out the back. Breakfast is something to look forward to. A reservation is required the night before, but worth it just to sit back and enjoy a leisurely stream of freshly squeezed orange juice and a spread of smoked salmon, cheeses, waffles, pastries, French toast and eggs, any way you like them. Wash it all down with a latte or cappuccino, not just regular coffee. The only fault with the 'budget' rooms is that the bathrooms, although private, are only accessible via the hall. The Lucien l'Allier metro station is one block east.
