Artist's Island Home

The Wadsworth house is a unique house on Cranberry island for it was designed and built by the artist, Charles Wadsworth. It reflects the Frank Lloyd Wright style and fits well into the natural landscape. It's many views of Acadia park are breathtaking especially in the evening when a purple sun is setting behind the mountains. It is at the end of a tree-lined dirt road (Jimmy's Point Rd.), a short walk from the town dock and general store.The driveway ends at the lower lawn, where you enter the house by climbing impressive rock steps built into the ledge. The main door of the house opens into a massively long living room/music room ...with piano and fireplace. It is delightful to have a fire on a cold evening and for those who love music the piano is kept in tune. The living room windows look out over the ocean to the mountains of Acadia National Park and the outdoor sitting porch beyond the living room is a favorite place on warm nights to have a glass of wine and enjoy that view.

The kitchen, recently updated, has a brand new floor, refrigerator, stove and dishwasher but the charming antique cutting block counter is still there. The side kitchen door opens onto an outdoor eating porch, again with a sea, mountain, and forest view.

There are 3 bedrooms; one with a king bed, another with a queen, a kid's room with bunk beds. The master bedroom has ocean views. The bathroom has also been recently renovated. On the basement level is an extra bedroom, and a little half-bath under the staircase.

Our rocky Maine beach is a two-minute walk through the forest. We also have an above-ground swimming pool on the lower lawn. It's not huge, but it's great for cooling off at the height of the day. In season there are wild blueberries and cranberries to pick and they make great muffins and pies.

No pets or smoking are allowed. There is a washer/dryer for your convenience, and the house comes with a tennis membership, the use of bikes, and a John Deere Gator.

The Island is a two mile long area to explore. The Country Store is open down by the dock for groceries, and the new island restaurant is located in the middle of the island next to the fire house, church, and library.

If you want to adventure off island just catch the ferry mailboat and stop off at Little Cranberry Island to visit the dock restaurant and bar, galleries or museum. Up for some hiking? Take the Ferry off island and explore Acadia National Park for the day! While your over on Northeast Harbor visit the numerous art galleries, and pick up a delicious Maine lobster roll!
