A Stay at Grandma's

September 1, 2014

This a very clean and well maintained older house with a nice secluded back yard in a quiet neighborhood. It was ideal for our recent fishing trip in Lake Michigan, and has the best furnished kitchen of any home we have ever rented. Every utensile or dish you could need is available. It is about 1 mile to the Jaycees boat ramp into Muskegon Lake and has a great picnic table in the back yard and patio table and chairs in the front yard. We plan to rent the same house agin next year.

Owner's reply:

We are glad we provided everything you needed. Our goal is to make things as easy as possible for our guests so that they can relax and enjoy their vacation. That's why the location is ideal. So close to so many things, especially the boat ramp and the beach! Thanks to Dawn who does a lot of the leg work for us by checking in guests, cleaning in between and stocking the necessary paper products and Pam who maintains the gardens!

Great Time at Gramma's House!

August 17, 2014

Our family had a great time at Gramma's House. The owners were very accommodating as we only had 4 days for a vacation. The house was comfortable to stay in, everyone had their own bedroom. The kitchen had everything we needed for meals and the fire-pit was great. The house is very close to Lake Michigan beaches(about 2 blocks away) and Muskegon Lake is down the street. Thanks for a wonderful time!

We are glad you had a good time and that you had everything you needed. Thanks for staying at Gramma's house!

Great family house in quiet location

August 1, 2014

Gramma's house is a large clean house on a corner site in a residential area. It is within 5 minutes walking distance to the local beach. The house was very clean and fresh and well stocked with linens and beach towels, BBQ, sand-pit to light outdoor fires and all kitchen utensils you can imagine. It even has a working piano-organ to play with! There are five large bedrooms (all on upper floor) and a lot of space. The house is in a residential area so you are unlikely to meet other tourists staying near by. We were met by Dawn from across the street who was super helpful and friendly. Happy to recommend this house.

Owner's reply:

Glad you liked the house and had a good time in Muskegon. Thanks for staying and come again!

Our grandchildren loved "Gramma's House"

June 18, 2014

Three generations stayed at this home for a family reunion weekend and it provided a perfect proximity to the site of the reunion, as well as a respite once the reunion was over. The family tradition for our family of s'mores was easily held at its fire pit in the lovely fenced back yard, and two trips to beautiful Pere Marquette Beach delighted not only the grandchildren, but all of us. Sand castles were created, holes dug, and playground equipment enjoyed on two balmy June evenings. The neighborhood character of the Bluffton area gave it a real family feel. The seasoned home felt, indeed, like someone's grandma's house, with bedrooms and room for all to stretch out. It was also nicely equipped with necessities, much appreciated. A nice option for a family gathering. The proximity to stunning Pere Marquette Beach can't be beat.

Owner's reply:

Thanks for the review. I'm glad the house lived up to your expectations and more. We like to make it family friendly and include the extra amenities to help out and make others feel at home.

Great house, excellent location (sort of)

July 29, 2013

First off, Gramma's house is great. Plenty of room for the 3 families that stayed there to live. We enjoyed use of the firepit in the backyard, the close proximity to lake Michigan and Muskegon lake, and the provided bicycles, toys, and beach towels. They really make you feel welcome here. My only reservation is that Muskegon the city appears to be in serious economic decline. Some of the neighborhoods around the city (NOT gramma's neighborhood) seem a bit sketchy. Also, the downtown area lacks the charm of most of the other lakeside spots along Michigan's coast. Oh well, it's a short trip to Grand Haven where the downtown is great. I would recommend gramma's house.

Cam Bacigalupa

Owner's reply:

Yes Muskegon has been hit hard. It was once a manufacturing city. As the factories became outdated owners closed them and moved to the south where they could get a tax break for bringing new business. Many buildings have been torn down or converted into apts., but there are still a few standing. Beautifying the city has been an ongoing process. A little history lesson. : ). I hope you had a chance to see some of the historic buildings downtown like Hackley Library and Hackley and Hume houses.

Fabulous House

August 14, 2012

Although no AC fans were sufficient. It was the perfect spot due to us attending a regatta at the Muskegon Yacht Club. The dryer came in handy for the foul weather gear needed due to rain on third day. All worked out great. Definitely would rent again.

Peace, serenity and sunsets

April 18, 2011

My time spent at Gramma's House by the Lake will always be a special time that I can reflect on. The wonderful breeze when sitting outside and walking down to Lake Michigan to see the beautiful sunsets can only be described as serene. The huge rooms were great for entertaining, and the kitchen great for cooking. The house has multiple windows which was so nice when the sun came up. I would highly recommend this large house for a nice quiet place to get away from the rat race.

Serenity at Gramma's House by the Lake.

April 11, 2011

I had the pleasure of being a guest at this wonderful home near Lake Mukegon over Memorial Weekend 2010. Serenity is what best describes my stay. What a prestine beach! I was impressed by the many sights and activities in the area. History lovers will very much enjoy Muskegon and the surround Great Lakes area. There was also a great deal of restoration and investing going on in the downtown district area. This spacious home, just a block from the beach is perfect for multiple families to share. And I loved the many beautiful flowers surrounding the house. I highly recommend Gramma's House by the Lake!

More Information

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is the most fun thing to do at Gramma's House?
A: Take advantage of Lake Michigan and Muskegon Lake. Both offer swimming, boating, and fishing. The beaches are free and so is the water! A fishing license will be required.
Q: How far away is Michigan Adventure Park (Amusement Park)?
A: Only 16.5 miles
Q: I have heard that most people who live by the lake do not have air conditioning. Is that true?
A: Yes. The water temperature helps to keep the surrounding land cooler and there is usually a nice breeze from the Lake as well. You may find Gramma's House 5-8 degrees cooler from the temperature downtown and even more compared to cities inland such as Grand Rapids. However, each bedroom at Gramma's House has a fan and on rare occasion of a hot spell, there is always the lake!
Q: What makes Gramma's House stand out above the others?
A: We have NOT doubled and tripled up sleeping to fit in as many as guests as possible (ie. sleeper sofa in every room). As such, the house is large and roomy. No need to trip over each other on a rainy day. Room to spread out and read a book, play a board game or watch a movie. Gramma's House has a large fenced in yard. Families who have stayed here who also have friends or family in town have found it is a great "home base" for everyone to gather.
