Description of the Nashville vacation cabin rental
This authentic BROWN COUNTY LOG CABIN overlooks a beautiful valley just a stone's throw away from the gorgeous Brown County State Park and Little Nashville Opry. Built in 1976 from Indiana native lumber and logs, it has beautiful handmade cabinets and a very large wood-burning fireplace. The back deck boasts an outdoor HOT TUB and cedar deck furniture, while the front porch has all beautiful Amish handcrafted cedar furniture, rockers and swing. We take a lot of pride in our cabin and how we maintain it, we change our "HOT TUB" between each set of guest, it is our goal to meet or beat your expectations. This Cabin is very secluded sitting atop the nice rolling hills of Brown County Indiana.

"Diversity Welcomed Here"
The History of The Valley View Log Cabin
It all started in 1973 by a gentleman by the name of Teddy Flynn. He was a very avid outdoors man who loved to hunt, fish and trap. He purchased the property which had a small farm cottage style house that sat down by the road. He wanted to build a log cabin, so he began the plans, he sat at the kitchen table and began the drawings on the inside of an empty Corn Flakes box. He purchased the log's and a lot of the lumber from a local thick and thin sawmill. That was how a lot of the sawmills were referred to as most were worn out and one end of he board would be much thicker than the other. The logs are Indiana poplar and the native wood is a mix of oak and poplar.
He was very good friends with a couple of his neighbors, so it became a community project, one of the neighbors; Penn Mullis had the sawmill and the other gentleman Roy Shipley was some what of a carpenter. So they worked together and over a few years and few trips to Leo Knight's grocery, which is still in operation by his son Arthur Knight known as Knight's Grocery today, for nails and any hardware that they could get there. He was somewhat of a conservative individual so anything that he could pick up for free he would utilize it. The U.S. Army had downed sized Camp Atterbury and was letting local people dismantle some of the old barracks, Teddy heard about this and went and salvaged what he could from them for use in the cabin. The floor joist and window sills and the stair steps are from this lumber. The kitchen cabinets are made from Indiana Sassafras lumber which has a beautiful golden tone and grain to it. He used an old bed post for the stair case post going to the basement which is very unique. The wood burning fireplace is gorgeous and huge made from Brown County Stone, with it's huge Indiana poplar mantle.
Teddy and his wife Francis have one son Quaillian, they worked and finished the cabin to a livable state and got moved in around 1977. Teddy had the pond dug that is there today, we keep it stocked with a variety of fish, channel cat, bluegill, red ear, large mouth bass and a few albino catfish for folks to watch and feed. In the mid to late 1980's Teddy felt the need to sell and relocate to a much more remote area, I was working with my neighbor at the time on his farm up the road, as I would drive by and look up at the cabin, I loved the location and it's looks sitting up at the top of the hill over looking the valley below. I told him that if it came up for sale I would love to buy it. I never really thought that I would have the chance to own it, he told me that Teddy was wanting to sell and relocate. So I contacted him and he wanted to meet with me at the donut shop in Bloomington, this was Teddy's style, so I met with him and we discussed it over a cup of coffee and a donut. After a couple of meetings we came to an agreement on the purchase price and I became the new owner in August of 1989.
I have one son Kyle, he was one year old at that time, so we moved in and started the clean up process of the five acres that I had just purchased. I always thought it would be so nice to have a huge lawn, so I started mowing and reseeding and fertilizing the acreage until I had completed the whole five acres. After fifteen years of taking care of that much land I made the decision to let it grow up, I'm very glad that I did as it provides a lot of cover for the Bird's and Rabbit's and all the Wild Turkey. At certain times of the year you can see the Turkey almost daily if you get up early and watch out the East window, and you can see the Deer most anytime. There are a lot of Coyote's in the area and at certain times of the year you can hear them and their pups barking and howling. It was a great place to raise Kyle, and it was a fun place to live, however I had always wanted to build a new house, so in 2003 I started the construction of my new home and when we moved in it in 2005, I opened the cabin as a Tourist home at that time. I hope that all of previous guest have enjoyed it as much as we have. The property is located about 2 miles from the West Brown County State Park entrance and sits off of Highway 46 about 1 mile and is only 4 miles from the town of Nashville Indiana. It is very convenient to the Indiana University being only about 20 minutes away. Come spend a few nights with us and enjoy the quit surroundings and all the beauty of the Valley in Brown County Indiana. Thanks for your interest in the Cabin and taking the time to read a short bit of it's history.

Peaceful Getaway
June 19, 2013
Enjoyed our 3 day stay in the cabin. Our kids caught plenty of fish in the pond, enjoyed the tree swing and the big yard. Us parents liked the quiet and the nights spent on porch swing looking at the stars. We took advantage of the stocked kitchen and ate all our meals at the cabin and outside on the porch or picnic table. Great getaway something for all ages. Highly recommend.

Wonderful Cabin
May 28, 2013
We stayed in the cabin for weekend trip in May. We really loved the cabin and it's amenities as well as the pond. Although it appears to be very rustic, it has all the amenities of a house. It has great character and history and really took us away from our daily stresses. Our daughters loved the yard, deck, and pond and it helped a small weekend trip feel like a real vacation. The stores and conveniences are really only a few miles away, but felt much further because the cabin is in a great rural setting. We also could drive to the State Park in only a few minutes. We will be back.

Just Right
December 13, 2012
My wife and I spent a weekend to celebrate her birthday. The cabin was what we were looking for, a rustic cabin. The amenities included were excellent, just the small things that were thought of and supplied by the owners. We enjoyed building fires in the fireplace and enjoyed our time together in the quaint setting. We will definitely consider coming back for future visits!

Great location and relaxing get-away
September 22, 2012
My sister, mother and I had a long girl's weekend of catching up. The front porch of this cabin was the perfect place to do it. The cabin was very clean and in a great location -- far enough away to be quiet and close enough that you didn't have to go far to find something to do. Brown County State Park was right in our back yard and we are all contemplating bring our families back for a hiking trip.

My sisters and I had a wonderful time. We want to make it an annual event. Loved the shopping near by. Was glad that we could all stay under one roof. We also loved the hot tub. The idea of no kids was great. Thank-you Tim for sharing your cabin with us.

Pleasantly surprised
November 4, 2011
Pretty much knew what to expect of the property itself, and it was great, but what was the most surprising was the comfortable beds; they were pretty much hotel quality, and that was a bit surprising. Everything about it was perfect- from the deer in the yard in the evening, to the porch swing and hot tub. The only thing that kept it from keeping the 5th star was the TV being in the upstairs bedroom. It would have been great to snuggle near the fire and watch TV, regardless though, I plan to go again.

Lower your Blood Pressure
September 14, 2011
Spent two nights here for a couple getaway after attending a wedding in the state park. Everthing about this cabin is just right, Plenty spacious but still cozy and comfortable. Rustic and full of character, but with the amenities of a modern home, although relaxing on the front porch seems extract stress, so this diminished the need for satelite TV. the porch and the view magnificent. We were treated to a summer like rainstorm just before we left and it was as lovely as swinging on the great swing. Thanks for the memories. Only disappointment was that we could not move the guest book game forward. Easy check in/out and close to town.

If you are anything like us & have been searching endlessly for the perfect place then stop right now, you have found it!! We finally found Valley View on Vacation rentals & are so pleased we did as it was just what we were looking for. Somewhere idyllic, quaint & romantic to celebrate our First Anniversary. This cabin is lovely & accomodating, it has everything you need & is set in a gorgeous location with easy access to Little Nashville & the surrounding parks. We loved the feeling of being in the middle of nowhere & sitting on the front porch in the evening listening to the peace & looking out over the little lake. Theres also a huge open field, woods & a lake to the rear of the property if you like to go exploring. And Tim the owner is extremely helpful & friendly & Thank You for our gift, we were pleasantly surprised. We have been recommending this cabin to all & would love to come back & visit again. Thank you so much! Jason & Sam

wonderful getaway
October 27, 2010
we stayed 4 days, wish it could have been many more. The cabin has everything you need and is beautiful and rustic, fits perfectly in the serene natural setting, yet easy access to Nashville and Bloomington, as well as the beautiful state parks and forests where we spent most of our time. I only wish I could take the front porch and its view with me, so I could see it in the other seasons of the year.

We have stayed for two weeks in the cabin. It is lying in a beautiful valley, very quiet, only hearing nature. There where deers, birds etc. The cabin has everything you need, it is big, good beds, airco etc. Tim is a very friendly man, heloing you with everything, fills the hottub with every new visit which is a nice thought. We recomand this place to everyone. There are beautiful places to visit. We hired a boat on lake Monroe, lovely. Good shopping is nearby. Margret Wortel the Neatherlands Europe

Our stay in this beautiful cabin surpassed our expectations by far! The view from the front porch was beautiful and so relaxing. The boys truly enjoyed fishing in the pond and catching their first fish. Everything was perfect. The cabin is well maintained as well as the surrounding grounds. It is also a close drive to Little Nashville and several state parks. We are hoping to make a return visit in the future!

Our Trip Started With My Sister, Mother And I Getting Away For A Few Days To Brown County. It Was The First Time I Was Able To Get Mom And My Sis Away After They Lost Their Spouses. We Loved The Cabin And Pond. Mom Didn't Want To Leave! The Cabin Is Set Back From A Quiet Road With A Pond. Sitting Out On The Fr Porch Swing Was Great. No Pesky Misquitos! The Cabin Then Was Visited By My Fiance An He Loved It (well Except For The Severe Storm That Knocked Out The Electric.) Even With That Little Oops We Would Love To Return Again. Tim Ritter Has Provided A Great Place To Get Away From It All, And If You Want To Go Into Nashville Or Brown Cty State Park, They Are Not Far Away. Looking Forward To Returning.

Good for the mind, soul, and heart

The rustic look of the cabin. The cedar furniture through out the house, in and out gives it a ruff look but yet cozy feeling. The beauty that surrounds this cabin gives it a peaceful beauty that conforts and relaxes the mind, soul, and heart. The many extras that takes you away, like the hot tub,and the front porch swing looking over the valley. Its a place like no other. We had fun playing board games on the front porch table. We played till 9:30p.m., NO BUGS. We then sat on the swing and rockers talking till 11:00 p.m.What a perfect, beautiful night.I will be back but this time with my parents.

My wife & I really enjoyed our Weekend Getaway! The cabin was just what we needed. This quaint little cabin gave us the seclusion & peace we desired. We missed the wildlife scenes in the early mornings, but the charm of Nashville in the evenings provided good food and shopping. We will plan to come again in the future (With fishing gear!) Thanks Tim, everything was as described!

We stayed for 3 days and nites and found everything in perfect order. We prayed for snow and got 2" our last nite there. Catching snowflakes in the hottub was so relaxing words cannot do justice. Thanks for the firewood replenishment...right on time. Kudos, Tim, you run a class act! Thank you, Sam and Denise,La Porte, IN

A Quiet Place for a Business Retreat
January 12, 2010
Thank you Tim for sharing your lovely cabin. We were looking for a quiet, restful place to gather several people so we could make business and personal goals for the New Year. It was a success! We were all able to spend time without interruption making plans, as well as quiet moments to relax and contemplate by your beautiful fireplace. We also took advantage of time on the front porch watching the deer, and taking walks by the pond out back. Being so close and affordable, it will be easy to use your cabin as a refuge whenever we need to. You were a warm and friendly person to do business with. We will highly recommend you to our friends. Kind Regards, Carol

My friends and I stayed at the VV cabin, the weekend of November 6th. The weather was amazing and the cabin was perfect. It was beyond our expectations. The really impressive thing about the cabin was the details. Games in the closet for you, complementary soap and towels, new water in the hot tub, coffee, a nice set of cornhole. All of this for the lowest price for this size cabin anywhere in Brown County.

We had a great time and look forward to coming back.

Birthday Get Away
October 22, 2009
My wife has always wanted to go to Brown County and stay in a cabin for her birthday. Surrounded by woods, this serene location was the perfect place to celebrate. It had a hot tub, fireplace, and a small pond! It was close to Nashville and the Brown County park. My wife are already planning another trip back. Just not sure what day to pick.

This great cabin is located in a very serene area. If the weather wasn't so cold, I would have enjoyed the front porch swing longer. So happy there were 2 TV's instead of the one I expected. Made great use of the pristine hot tub. I always dreamed of having a log bed so I was thrilled to sleep in one. Everything was clean and very charming. Would love to come back someday.

Thank you for opening your beautiful Cabin up for us to enjoy. We had a wonderful girl getaway, serenity is found here. We loved it so much we had to stay the extra night. My favorite is the porch, I was almost out there exclusively sunrise, sunset, the stars were magnificent. Watching the birds fly around and the fish jump from the pond, frogs croaking, crickets chirping, nature's orchestra was delightful to the ears.
My second favorite was fishing from your loving pond. I could have caught blue-gill all day long. I did catch one of your catfish it probably weighed 2-3 pounds. Thanks so much for a wonderful relaxing getaway. I'm sure to visit again. Angela

This has been such an incredible weekend! We came here to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary and couldn't have asked for a better cabin or for nicer weather! Everything about this place was wonderful especially the front porch with the view of the horses and long horns! We have less than an hour before check-out and I don't want to leave! Thank you for everything you do to make this cabin so perfect. Your attention to detail does not go unappreciated! We'll be back again soon!
