New Orleans, LA Travel Tips

New Orleans, LA, is a busy Southern city that is unique and diverse. It is a world-famous destination that is associated with jazz and the blues. When planning a family trip to New Orleans, vacation rentals are the way to go when it comes to accommodations. Vacation Home Rentals has some of the best houses for rent in New Orleans. We want to be your online source for vacation rentals and to achieve that we offer well-maintained for rent by owner properties for you to choose from. Choosing from our listed apartments for rent in New Orleans will save you money, but it isn’t the only tip that will make your family vacation a safe and comfortable one. Set up an itinerary and plan activities that are suitable for young children to participate in. It is important that parents know what areas may not be as kid-friendly as others so that they can be avoided. Bourbon Street, for example, may have more adult activity that is out in the open and might not be appropriate for children.
It is important that tourists familiarize themselves with the city’s neighborhoods. Not only will it help in finding the right vacation rental, but it will also make it easier to locate popular attractions around the city. The French Quarter is one of the most well-known neighborhoods in New Orleans and is where tourists will find the famous Bourbon Street. The Garden District is popular for tourists looking for a quieter neighborhood and more upscale houses for rent in New Orleans. Mid-City receives less tourist attention, but has restaurants that are affordable for families. The Central Business District can be considered downtown New Orleans. It is more a place for business travelers; however, it is also where the Mercedes-Benz Superdome is located.
There are many attractions that are sure to be great fun for families vacationing in New Orleans. These attractions include riding down the Mississippi on the Steamboat Natchez or visiting the St. Louis Cathedral. Take kids to tour Mardi Gras World and learn about its history as well as watch how floats are built. Another destination is the Historical Wax Museum of New Orleans Musee Conti. Don’t forget the animals and insects while in New Orleans. Visit the Audubon Butterfly Garden and Insectarium at the Audubon Nature Institute or the Audubon Zoo. A top-rated aquarium is also located in New Orleans. It is called the Audubon Aquarium of the Americas and is a good place for families to spend a rainy or just relaxing day away from their New Orleans vacation rentals. Yet another attraction that is family-friendly is at the City Park of New Orleans. Here you’ll find the Carousel Gardens Amusement Park and Storyland. The Amusement Park has a wooden carousel, a Ferris wheel, and fourteen other rides. At Storyland you’ll find storybook characters immortalized in sculpture.
New Orleans is an exciting city that is filled with events year round. Events in the city can be so large that they may be the primary reason why families visit the city and stay in vacation rentals. New Orleans is well known for its Mardi Gras. Mardi Gras season officially begins with a parade in January and comes to an end in mid-February on Mardi Gras Day. Also in February, typically on the Monday before Mardi Gras Day, there is the Zulu’s Lundi Gras Festival. In celebration of St. Patrick’s Day in March, tourists will want to catch the St. Patrick’s Day Celebration, which includes parties, food, and parades. In the French Quarter there are two additional parades in March that celebrate both Irish and Italian heritages. Families who are staying in New Orleans rentals during the Easter holiday won’t want to miss catching at least one of the three Easter parades taking place in the city. During the second week of April, New Orleans is home to the French Quarter Festival. During the festival, tourists can enjoy food choices from area restaurants as well as music from hundreds of area performers. Visit New Orleans in October and you’ll have the three-day Louisiana Seafood Festival, which includes a kids' tent for children to enjoy.
