Description of the Newaygo vacation cottage rental

Croton Shores Cottage is nestled on a wooded hillside in a cove along the western shore of beautiful Croton Pond, a 1,320-acre boating and fishing lake that's part of the Muskegon River between historic Croton and Hardy Dams.

Surrounded on three sides by woods, there's plenty of privacy for lounging on the deck or enjoying an evening fire at the fire pit.

This is the perfect place to slow your pace, relive favorite memories from childhood summers at the lake and create a great fish story!

Discover the abundance of local wildlife. From your private dock you can observe swans, blue heron, turtles, geese, ducks and maybe even the elusive bald eagle--all in their natural habitat. Catch a glimpse of resident deer taking a stroll, or watch as wild turkeys wander out from the woods. These encounters with wildlife will create special vacation memories.

Area Information

Bring your own boat, and you'll have direct access to four miles of waterway--from the grand waters above Croton Dam, up the Muskegon River to Hardy Dam. A public launch just below Croton Dam gives you access to miles and miles of some of the best fishing waters around.

This is a haven for water enthusiasts. Muskegon River is ideal for canoes, kayaks, boats or tubes. A summer day on Croton Pond finds pontoon boats, power boats of all sizes, water skiers and personal watercraft.

If you prefer your outdoor fun on land, you'll enjoy the miles and miles of woodland trails that beckon casual walkers, serious hikers, horse riders, dirt bikers and snowmobile enthusiasts alike.

Area golf courses offer challenge on the greens. Free parks provide picnics and swimming.

The town of Newaygo is a true delight--with its interesting shops, diverse eateries, artistic murals, seasonal festivals, homespun farmers market, riverside parks, and more.

Snowshoe weekend

We loved Croton Cottage. It was perfect for our group. It was a short drive from home (2 hours) and had access to many trails for snowshoeing. The facilities were perfect with a big kitchen to cook for a large group, and enough beds for everyone. It even had a wood burning stove. A great time was had by all.

What a beautiful and relaxing place to spend a couple of days! It was very clean and the kitchen was stocked with every kitchenware you could ever need! This home is quite comfortable and spacious. The pond was so peaceful with all the ducks and swans! Joy had a binder with tons of information about the area, which was very helpful. We look forward to bringing our family back here to stay for a week! They certainly have thought of everything to make your stay enjoyable! I would highly recommend this cottage to anyone!

Just wanted to tell you how very much we enjoyed the "cabin"!! We have stayed in cabins throughout Michigan, Indiana, Arkansas, Tennessee & even Utah and your house was far and away the BEST!!! I'm pretty critical...but your cabin was the cleanest, LOVED the sparkling white fluffy towels and wash cloths!! The plates matched and were not chipped or cracked, the beds were comfortable and the sheets matched. The kitchen was well stocked with cookware that was not battered & bent, and all the necessities like scotch tape, scissors, screw driver, as well as cooking utensils were right there. We slept well, ate well...and relaxed well. The fall colors against the lake were amazing to watch in the sunlight from the cabin. Q:Where can we swim?

A:The closest swimming area is at Consumers Park on Hardy Pond. The park is free, and there is a swimming area as well a picnic area. You can also swim at Sandy Point Park on Hardy Pond, with a fee per car.

Q:Can I bring my boat?

A:Yes! You will have a 20' private dock. The public boat launch is about three miles from the cottage and closer by water.
