> You and the kids are only a few steps away to a sandy beach.
> You can play on the floating dock "THE ARC" 10 feet by 10 feet. It has 8, 55 gallon barrels holding it up. It is very stable. It is great for fishing or playing "king" of the dock with the kids.
> You can swim in the beautiful emerald green water. In the mornings you can see the fish swimming (from the screened porch) its so clear. On calm days you can see 15-20 feet down.
> You can walk around the woods. Feel like you're in a secluded cabin with woods all around to explore.
> You can take the canoe around the lake or under the bridge to Emerald Lake and visit where the barges hauled there cargo in the late 1800 's to early 1900 's.
> You can snorkel.
> You can visit Turtle Island in the canoe.
> You can enjoy a bon fire down at the lake, and roast marshmellows.
NEW THIS YEAR:
1. Also took out the 2 little windows facing the lake and put in 2 5 foot by 6 foot picture windows. Now you can really see the lake from anywhere in the living room. Enjoy a quiet dinner inside and watch the fun down on the lake.
1. Sylvan Lake is surrounded by hills and the trees turn beautiful colors in the fall.
2. Take a walk or bike ride around the lake and take in all the wonderful colors.
3. Take a canoe ride out to Turtle Island.
4. Walk the trails behind the cottage and enjoy more color.
5. The cottage is a great place to have your hunting lodge.
6. The cottage is a few miles from Manistee National Forest.
1. Bring your snowmobiles for a great time. You can park them right next to the cottage, so when your ready, its just start them up and take the back trail to Newaygo Rec Snowmobile trail. The trails lead all over West Michigan.
2. Pleanty of great ice fishing, Pike, Blue Gills, Bass and Walleye and several others. Cook them fresh in the large well furnished kitchen.
There always seems to have an event going on during the weekend.
Downtown you can go rafting on the Muskegon River. They rent out rafts you go as long as you want.
There are many small places to eat as well as the known fast food (Mc Donalds, Wendy's,...).
Plenty of shopping: from antiques to fishing and tackle.
There is a nice size food shopping store also.
Michigan Adventure is just a small drive away.
Grand Rapids is 35 min. In the summer there are many things happening, Meijer Gardens, John Ball Park Zoo, MANY FESTIVALS downtown, Art Prize...
Emerald Lake has a kids lib. its free, just walk or bike around the lake. Someone has build it on top of their garage. Free water a kids table and seats, rent out a video. They are donated by neighbors on the lake

We had a wonderful time because the house had everything we needed for a family of 12 ages ranging from 3 months to 16 years old. The owner was accessible to us for questions and accommodating in service. The house was beautiful and spacious. We didn't even use all the beds. The children were able to have their own bed and not share. They really enjoyed the water. The row boat was a hit. My son, 13, loved the challenge of guiding the row boat. There was sand on the waters edge so the little ones made fun creations. The big ones made tunnels and bridges. As a mom I was able to see all the children from the deck while I nursed the baby. I enjoyed the view and stillness of each moment. While my daughter took pictures that bring back good memories of our time at the house. The area was nice and quiet to stay at. My husband took a run in the evening and was surrounded by woods. What a great way to be close to God's country!

I sent my husband, his brother, and his 2 teenage boys here for the youngest's 16th birthday. They wanted to be near Croton Dam in order to spend the weekend fishing and they all like a little bit of luxury. This was an unbelievably perfect location, perfect house. The boys sent me videos and texts the whole weekend - they felt treated like kings. All 4 of them will remember the weekend forever. My husband's brother plans to rent the house for his whole family as soon as possible. Wonderful space. The only improvement I can come up with would be adding wifi - my husband drove into town to take care of some emails. Other than that, absolutely perfect.

This is the second time, my family have stayed at this rental cottage. The first time was in 2008. The home has enough sleeping areas where you all have your privacy. The home is clean, although I would recommend the owner supply newer sheets as the ones on the bed were a bit threadbare, but aside from that it was a well-stocked and clean cottage. Lots to do for the kids, and being on the water was fabulous. Loved this home.

We stayed the 1st week of August with our 4 children & had a blast! We love the house, the beach front & the location was lovely. Having to adjust to only 1 bathroom was a bit challenging at times, but certainly not a real hardship. Also, being in the woods, in an older home, we encountered mice, but we learned to deal. The only reason this rental did not rate 5 stars is because the microwave was out of commission the week we were there, & we really, really noticed the lack--especially when it came to warming stuff up for the kids. The weather turned cold & wet the last 2 days we were there & so the cable TV, internet & DVD player was heaven sent when we were house bound for so long. We also really enjoyed Sylvan Lake, the canoe & diving dock. The water is warm, the beach is sandy and the shallow area close by was perfect for our 5 year old. All in all, we couldn't have asked for a nicer place, especially when considering the price. Hopefully, we'll be back next year!

What a perfect setting for our family vacation getaway! We enjoyed the clean Lake for swimming, canoeing & boating. The Enchanted Cottage was very nice, secluded & well furnished. The views of Sylvan Lake were awesome! The Large screened in porch was a great addition to this "Fun cottage". The outdoor deck is very large & useful for our dining out pleasure~ We took a few bike rides around both Sylvan & Emerald Lake..Great scenery & exercise for all! The town of Newaygo is just minutes away for any needed supplies, etc. Jimmys Roadhouse was a Great choice for our dinner out night. We would surely recommend Enchanted Cottage for anyone looking to find beauty, privacy & relaxation. Many Special Memories made here... :) Thanks!

Nice cottage! good accomadations, excellent view of the lake boating, swimming, fishing, all excellent
I have a memory book I leave for people to fill out, durring their vacation. I started that last summer and most everyone has written 3-6 pages about the fun times they had.
