Imagine yourself relaxing on the wrap-around porch...snuggled up with that novel you've been wanting to read for months now...the sounds of children frolicking in the water and playing on the beach located within steps of your front door...peaceful and tranquil - exactly how your vacation is supposed to be!
Take a stroll down the beach and purchase tickets for the next deep sea fishing excursion to catch "monster" Haddock, Cod, Pollack, and Halibut. Plan an evening of fun aboard one of the Nightly Dinner Cruises departing from Plum Island Point and dance the night away under the stars. For the boating enthusists, the Arctic cottage also has a deep water mooring that's available to all guests of the cottage. Come and enjoy boating in some of the most scenic waterways along the entire East Coast! And for the avid fisherman, these waters are World-famous for the best Striped Bass fishing in New England!
This 1920's vintage Plum Island cottage - known as the "Arctic Cottage" is one of the oldest cottages on Plum Island. Originally built as a seasonal cottage, many of it's architectural features were designed to take advantage of it's seaside location. The distinctive wrap around porch that provides shade and shelter after a long day out on the beach...the "pocket" windows that mysteriously disappear into the walls to take advantage of the summertime breeze. The expansive windows throughout the cottage that brings the outdoors - inside...transforming the cozy beachfront cottage into an "on the water" experience! To get a "bird's eye" view of Plum Island and to see the cottage's location...go to on-line Maps and enter the property address - 82nd Street Newburyport, MA.

This home is much older than appears online. Other houses are right on top of you. The bedrooms in this home are not private, as the walls do not go all the way to the ceiling. Inside, this home is very, very small and has only one bath room making it very hard for more than three people. The stairs going up to the bed rooms are a death trap. You would not want anyone with small children or elderly adults with you as they would not be able to go up and down the stairs. Beach in pictures looks nice but in fact is quite junky and has more mud than sand. Do not be taken by this home as rates are very, very high for what you will get. Please, please, if you must, see this house in person inside and out before you put any money down. Please take your time to look at alternatives as there are other very nice waterfront homes on this island for the same rates or less. We viewed several while we were there that are ideal for future stays. They were beautiful compared to this monstrosity. I work hard for my money and am sure you do also, so please get what you pay for and do NOT be taken by this rental. Do not drive or fly for hours only to arrive to find this. You will be truly disappointed.

Please see this house in person inside and out before placing any moneys down. Pictures are very deceiving. House very old and very small. Walls in bed rooms do not go to celling making all rooms open to each other . The stairs going to bed rooms are a DEATH TRAP. elderly or disable could not use theses stairs at all. They are even hard to get up and down if you are in good shape. Houses on either side of this house are right on top of you. The pictures make the beach look nice but it is really quit junky more mud than sand. other very nice houses on island to rent. for same rate or lower we look at them for future stays while we were there..Don't be taken by this one. Do not drive or fly for hours only to arrive to this. If we can save one person from the disapointment this house brought us. We work hard for our money and are sure your do too. Please beware Take your time and look at all your options we wish we had.

The cottage and location were beautiful. However, it's now more than a month since our return home and we've yet to get our security deposit back. Don't stay here unless you'd like to throw away additional money for no good reason.

The house was in great shape and the property was beautiful! We had the whole family there and stayed very comfortably, the porch is wonderful with the shade and the breeze if offers all day. The only complaint I would have is I wished the walls went all the way to the ceiling in the bedrooms instead of the gap that is left. It makes it difficult to drown out any noise. Overall, the stay was wonderful. I would definitely rent it again.

We ended up not staying after seeing the 5 bedrooms upstairs. There was exposed insulation in the ceiling (an ugly yellow foam), the partitions between rooms did not extend up to the ceiling so there was no privacy or insulation from sound. The furniture is shabby. There is little privacy from next door neighbors, who were quite loud. Not for "mature adults"...might work for a group of kids.

Visiting the Arctic Cottage is the quintessential New England experience. The views, salt air, swimming, beachcombing, and access to fine dining, boutique shopping and Starbucks make it the perfect family vacation. We're looking forward to our third year of creating lifelong memories for our children at the Arctic Cottage!
