Description of the Seal Rock vacation cottage rental
Wake up to this view every morning! Enjoy the sunset from the hot tub. Watch the seals basking on the rocks and the birds: pelicans, cormorants, sea gulls and eagles catch the wind currents overhead. Tide pools are so fabulous that biologists from the marine science center take their specimens from here. Private path to the beach. Our little corner of the world allows you absolute privacy and is perfect for your honeymoon or romantic getaway. 2BR (both with king beds), 2 full BA, jacuzzi, private hot tub, full kitchen. Located 8 miles south of Newport, on Oregon's beautiful Central Coast. Not suitable for young children.
A note about children: While we enjoy a fabulous in-your-face ocean view, and the house is visually protected by a small bluff and vegetation, a two-lane highway must be crossed in order to reach the beach. There are a number of beach access areas close-by that will accommodate your family vehicle.
Area Description
Seal Rock is a small Lincoln County community along Highway 101, just south of Newport.
These "Seal rocks" form a ledge of partially submerged rocks in the Pacific Ocean surfline. They extend parallel to the coast for about two and a half miles at a distance of a half mile from the beach. The highest rock rises about 20 feet out of the water. There is one large rock at the shoreline and many smaller ones. The place was called Seal Illahe, Chinook for seal home or seal place. Seal Rock's first post office was established April 25, 1890, with postmaster J. W. Brasfield running things. Seal Rock was at one time a popular resort destination.
Bottom Fishing, muscle harvesting and clamming are very productive here at Seal Rock.
There are antique shops, woodcarvers' galleries and other specialty shops.
Recreation.
Visitors enjoy beachcombing, agate hunting, surfcasting, rock fishing and observing sea life in the tidepools offshore. There are several turnouts along the highway and at Seal Rock State Park.
The Gull House is located just south of Seal Rock State Park and is within walking distance.

I've got to say I'd rather stay at the Gull House than go to a resort to get away for relaxation and peace of mind.

We arrived at the house and it was pouring rain...the next 2 days were breathtakingly beautiful! The house is cozy and comfortable, we loved the jacuzzi tub in the master bath and the view of the ocean was perfect! We arrived Friday after dark and didn't realize till morning how close to the beach it was. The view is beyond beautiful, it's breathtaking. That night my husband kept trying to turn down the heat to get rid of the noise. He finally realized that the noise was the surf, not the heater. The noise took on a whole new meaning after that! We mostly relaxed and enjoyed the beautiful view, gresat decor and homey atmosphere around here. To say we had a pleasant stay is an understatement! We got so lucky re weather; every day was sunny & beautiful. At one point I was looking for the porch light switch so I could turn off the light, only to realize it was the moon. The pelicans and eagles were so wonderful to see. We even got to watch the Coast Guard rescue a disabled boat; the telescope really was nice so we could watch all the action. We were disappointed we didn't see any seals, but on the last day they graced us with their presence, ther were several sunning on the rocks. We enjoyed the hot tub & never got around to using the jaccuzi tub in the bathroom. You have done a nice job with the new carpet, sky lights, etc. What a cozy home you have. This was just the perfect place for us to relax, even for only a few days. The interior decoration and the outside environment blend so well. We enjoyed little details like red/orange mushrooms along the lovely path, tan or silvery slugs down at the beach; chickadees and flycatchers flitting in and out of the feeders...

We had a most enjoyable weekend. The weather was perfect. We truly enjoyed watching the seals on the rocks. The eagle few by for us several times. Your home is most comfy! The view beyong beautiful! Thank you for sharing your place with us. Your home is very beautiful and welcoming! Everything we could want is here - and more. We are all very comfortable here and are not looking forward to the Denver heat! While we were here we saw the sea lion caves, tide pools everyday, 3 light houses, sand dunes (I survived the dune buggy ride!) and the aquarium in Newport. We can't express how great our stay was at your beach house! Although the towns off Newport and Lincoln City were swarming with"spring breakers" we were blessed with the cozy, quiet that your place provided - everything was perfect for us and although we did miss having TV it was a real treat to get away from it all! Our family drove out from Wyoming. It was the first time our girls got to see the ocean. We couldn't have picked a better place. We saw seals and starfish from the windows the first morning and went down to investigate. The area attractions were fine, but our family had the most fun walking and exploring the beaches. What a wonderful weekend it's been! Friday was beautiful with some sunshine and perfect picture taking weather, then we woke Saturday to high seas and wind.
