Description of the Northwood vacation cottage rental

Our cottage,built in the 192o's is reminiscent of "On Golden Pond".There are original wood beamed ceilings in the living/dining room with hard wood floors.The large wrap around porch with windows and screens is the highlight of the cottage.The porch houses a sleeping area,a large table for eating with lakeview,an extensive seating area with wicker furniture,a game table/library area and bathroom.The living room has the original fireplace and has plaster walls and fine wooden panelling.The kitchen is fully equipped The cottage is tastefully furnished throughout in antiques.
The cottage is only a few feet from the water.There is a dock and float,and a canoe is available for guests.A public boat launch is located on the lake for motor boats.The lake is known for excellent fishing for small and large mouth bass and pickeral. There are a pair of loons that live each summer on the lake. The cottage location is very private,and is located on our 50 acre property,where we also operate a bed and breakfast business at our 18th century colonial home.

Area Information

The cottage is in a rural area,but a 25 minute drive from Concord,the state capitol,and 45 minutes from Portsmouth on the coast.The town of Northwood's main attractions are Antique Alley and Northwood Meadows State Park. Hannaford's Super Market is located a 10 minute drive.

Fond Memories

My family rented this cottage last summer. My husband and I have two children, 12 and 9 at the time. My mother-in-law also joined us for the week. The cottage is rustic, but adorable. It was clean, quaint and quiet. The setting is lovely if you are looking for peace and quiet. It was nice in the age of electronics to unplug just a bit although there is a t.v. and we did get limited cell phone service. Instead of video games we played cards and board games. Our kids and dog had a fantastic time swimming in the lake. The location is good as Portsmouth and Manchester are both within a reasonable drive. I would recommend a trip to Portsmouth as it is a lovely little city. The only down sides to the cottage were that the grill was not in working order so we were not able to bbq, and the places to eat in the area were somewhat limited. In spite of that we had a fun week and left with some fond memories.

A Place to Make Memories

This cottage, on the shore of Jenness Pond, was absolutely lovely. Filled with ambiance, we especially enjoyed the antique furnishings, the plethora of books ranging from the 1920s to today, and the games. The basics were definitely taken care of...the beds were comfortable, the place was clean, and the kitchen was well-stocked w/ every cooking apparatus you could ever need (plus, a propane grill) . It was perfect for our multi-generation family of 7, ranging in age from 7 to 83. Something for everyone. My husband and I slept on the bed on the screened in porch. How divine to fall asleep to the sound of loons and frogs! Our girls loved the lake and jumping off the floating dock. So did our dog! My 83-year-old mother-in-law mostly watched us from the screened in porch during the day, but then spent her evenings whooping us at various games. My two active sisters-in-law, who took full advantage of swimming and canoeing. My wild blueberry picking expeditions led to many mornings full of blueberry muffins and blueberry pancakes. We also enjoyed roasting hotdogs and marshmallows at the fire ring. Janet and Doug (the owners) were very welcoming. Janet let my daughters feed her horses and Doug gave us a wonderful tour of their lovingly renovated bed and breakfast. A place to make memories, for sure. And to go back to year after year. Charming lakeside cottage

July 12, 2010

We stayed here with our 2 small children in a lovely old cottage. The best features are it's wrap around porch with a bed on it where you can listen to the loons and bullfrogs at night. It is lakeside with a great little beach and very private. For our kids the water was great, it's shallow quite a ways out so the kids could play and we didn't need to worry too much about them. A lovely place to stay where we created great memories.
