Description of the Norwood vacation cottage rental
OUR AUGUST 2013 RENTER CANCELLED -- August is now available again! Click on the "Calendar" tab to see additional dates!
The house and its sunny deck face south, toward your private lake shore and dock. You can watch the sun rise with a hot cup of coffee. You can keep an eye on the kids chasing minnows in the sandy shallows. Afternoon brings a picnic on the patio and a boat ride off your dock. Your grill is ready for dinner, and a campfire waits for sunset and the moonrise over the glassy lake. Oh yeah, this is the life…
This recently-renovated house has 900 square feet and sits on a mostly-sunny half acre, with 100 feet on Norwood Lake. It is easy to maintain and a fun vacation retreat.
The house is modern but still rustic enough to be fun. There are three bedrooms upstairs – a huge master and two smaller bedrooms – that sleep seven comfortably. (By law, the maximum occupancy is seven people with no exceptions, so keep that in mind.) The largest bedroom has a king sized bed, the next has a full bed and a twin bed, and the third has two twin beds. The upstairs has Pergo floors. The two south-facing bedrooms have terrific views of the lake and A/C units in case of a heat wave.
Downstairs, you’ll find all the comforts of home, plus the fun of a lake house. The wood-paneled great room sports a long bank of windows, providing a complete south-facing view of the lake. The spacious deck, with a dining set and propane grill, is perfect for relaxing or entertaining. The full kitchen includes microwave, stove, refrigerator, toaster, microwave and blender. The newly-remodeled bathroom is small but beautiful, with a walk-in shower and custom tile.
If you’re afraid of going into e-withdrawal, rest assured that you’ll have a flat-screen TV, cable, and high speed internet access with WIFI. The cable is limited to the networks, but you can still get your fix with the DVD player or by watching your Netflix with the HDMI cable. Life is good.
The lawn slopes down to the lakeshore with a shallow beach walk-in and private dock. A paddle boat is included, and you may bring your own Jet Ski or motorized boat to tie up at the dock. The public boat ramp is less than a mile down the road on Lakeshore Drive for easy launch.
Area Information
With a little more effort, you can visit the Almanzo Wilder house in Malone, the Olympic Ice Arena in Lake Placid, Tupper Lake’s Woodsmen’s Days, and the Adirondack Museum in Blue Mountain Lake. And you’ll still have the rest of the Adirondacks and St. Lawrence River valley left to explore. For more fun activities, check northcountryguide or adirondackscenicbyways on the net..
If you have a passport, you can easily cross the bridge in Massena and visit Canada. Upper Canada village, Canada's answer to Williamsburg, is only an hour's drive. Ottawa and Montreal are a day's trip as well.
.
If you stay close to home or venture out for day trips, this house is sure to give you a vacation to remember!

Other Vacation Rental Amenities
JC Merriman’s Building Supply carries propane and probably firewood: turn right on Lakeshore Drive, then turn left onto South Main Street (Rt. 56). It’s immediately on the right. (If you continue past Merriman’s, you’ll hit the center of town and the convenience store.)
Perry’s Big M Grocery carries propane and a nice selection of groceries: turn left onto Lakeshore Dr., drive 2.2 miles. It’s just across Spring St. on the left. (About half-way there, the road name changes to Outer Maple St.)
The paddle boat is available for your use, and the life vests are in the outhouse. You can fish from the dock, but you must have a NY State fishing license.
The well water has been tested and is safe for drinking, cooking, and washing; however, it is very high in iron, and does not taste very good. We don’t even make Kool-Aid from it.
We hope to have a stackable washer/dryer by summer 2013, but you may want to consider what the iron in the water might do to your clothes. I’m told you can add Iron-Out to the wash water, but I don’t know just yet. The Laundromat is in Potsdam: turn right on Lakeshore Drive and turn right onto South Main Street (Rt. 56). Drive 4.7 miles, left onto Munson Street, Left onto Beal Street.

Awesome Accommodations!!!
October 21, 2012
Some friends and I were originally looking to rent a hunting camp for a hunting excursion to northern St. Lawrence County, New York as this was our first time to the area. However, when we could not find anything, I stumbled across this cottage in Norwood, NY and the rest is history. This cottage is exactly what others have stated. It was a country-style cottage located right on Norwood Pond which is part of the Raquette River. We did not get the chance to fish, but we did see tons of wildlife in the area and we had a great trip. I have heard from many natives that Walleye fishing is great there though. The home very easily and comfortably slept the 6 of us. The first floor has 3 bedrooms with a total of 5 beds. Plus, there is a couch downstairs. Downstairs has a 3/4 bathroom and a common area which is used as a kitchen, dining area and living room. The downstairs has a slate looking tile flooring with tongue and groove used on the walls and ceiling. So, it is quite pretty. There is also a nice deck off the back with a view of the lake. You will also find all the comforts of home at this cottage with all necessary appliances, linens and bedding provided. The owner, Donna Wright, was very forthcoming with information and it has been a pleasure dealing with her. I would highly recommend this cottage to anyone looking for a quiet place to stay on the water in a quiet neighborhood. I can assure you that you will not be disappointed.

Excellent Cabin ! A+ Super Awesome Vacation !!
September 29, 2012
My wife, Barbara and I are originally from Upstate NY and she is from Norwood , NY and I am from Norfolk / ChaseMills, NY. We now reside in Indiana and return back to Northern NY approximately once year. We rented this cabin over the summer and was actually shocked on the ammentities it had with the rental. The owner , Ms. Donna Wright was extremely helpful , courteous and basically a blessing during the process. We had never rented a cabin previously however we did not expect to see everything in the cabin from every type of kitchen utensil , spices, board games, televisions , to fans in each room plus air conditioners that cool the entire camp when needed. A booklet of the rules was supplied and basically it was not needed if you have common sense and respect for other's property. The cabin was clean when we entered , we did stay with our Boxer , Gracie and an extra deposit was required however we received all deposit money back as we left the cabin in the same shape it was when we received it. One can fish off the dock , get this ....they even had fishing poles however we brought our own figuring that they would not be at the cabin. A paddle boat is also supplied and we all used the paddle boat during our stay. The deck is large and the only negative draw back is the parking in the front but there is plenty of room for two vehicles. We loved it ! Everything was great and I cannot express how satisfied we all were. Ms. Donna - Thank you ! So if one wants the peace and serenity on the lake in Northern NY while still being close to all the amentities of town such as Massena and Potsdam etc. This place is Awesome ! Sincerely, Randy and Barbara Phelix

Family Weekend Get Away
September 26, 2012
We stayed at this cottage for SUNY Canton's family weekend. We originally tried booking a hotel room, but found they were all booked for that particular weekend. We came across this rental and were pleasantly surprised! This cottage was perfect for us! The three bedrooms allowed each of us to have privacy while sleeping. The cottage was well kept, clean and very cozy. Wi fi was a plus for my kids and husband! There is also a kitchen with everything needed to make meals if desired. We took advantage of that and made a huge Sunday breakfast! The weather was not very cooperative with us, so we were not able to take advantage of the usage of the river or build a fire at the river's edge. We did, however, have an amazing view of the river - and saw a rainbow over it. The drive to SUNY Canton was only about 15 to 20 minutes. There were plenty of places to eat out in Potsdam or on the way to Canton. Grocery stores, laundromats also near by. We would love to rent again and this time, bring out dog - he would LOVE the water! Pets are welcome for a small fee. Check in/out was so easy. And we appreciated check out being noon. We will definitely rent this cottage again - and I even prefer it over a hotel. Highly recommended.

Great Fun
September 11, 2012
This is a wonderful place to stay. We found it very clean and it is easy to keep clean. The natural wood is beautiful along with the slate floors. The yard with the river (lake) is a great place for the family to fish both day and night. There is a nice paddle boat to for a little extra fun. Stores are easy to get to. Kitchen is stocked with everything you need in the way of utensils and pots and pans. I wish we had more time there, but we were busy visiting so many friends as we were there for the Mega Reunion. There is a book that tells you everything you need to know about the cottage. Donna Thank you for allowing us to stay in your summer home. My son was so happy to catch his first Catfish when they went down to the dock at night. Just bring the mosquito repellent. Quiet Family Vacation
July 1, 2012
We decided to take a quiet vacation this year, and wanted to go to the Adirondacks. This cottage was close enough that we could drive up a couple of days for hiking, boating and swimming. There were also many hiking trails a lot closer to take advantage of. The scenery in the area is beautiful. At the end of the day, it was always nice to get back to have dinner and relax. The house had everything we needed - just had to stop for groceries. So many stores are close by, that if you did need something, it was easy to get. We spent a couple full days doing activities at the cottage. The family got a lot of use out of the paddle boat, and we had brought our kayaks. It was so easy with the water access right on the property. We caught some fish from the dock, had a few fires and did some swimming. There was not a lot of boat traffic on the river or noise from surrounding homes. That fact helped make the property feel private and secluded. Our dog loved going into the river. It was tough to keep him out when we needed to!! I would definitely recommend this property to others. As a matter of fact, I already have. Thank you, Donna, for sharing your home with us. I just wish we would have had the opportunity to meet you.

Rest and Relaxation at Last!
May 31, 2012
We were graciously greeted by Donna and immediately felt welcome and at home. The house was perfect for our group of seven, including seniors, teenagers, and a baby. The house was clean and spacious. The deck overlooking the lake was perfect, and waking up to the view was amazing! The house was stocked with everything we needed, including Wi-FI! The kids thoroughly enjoyed the lake and paddleboat- and fishing rods were ready for our use! The house is within a short distance to any/all needs, yet it is a peaceful and quiet setting. Great location! The only problem we had was leaving!

Home away from home
May 23, 2012
We stayed at Donna's cottage for a week when my son started college at Clarkson and then again for 3 days when he graduated this year. Both the times, we enjoyed the cottage and the view is great from the deck. The house is self sufficient and commute to Clarkson from there is easy. Our experience dealing with Donna has been a pleasure.

Cozy and Clean!
November 29, 2011
We spent Thanksgiving at this house and we were thrilled to find that the house was fully stocked with every cooking utensil you could possibly need! It's very clean and we did NOT have a single problem with our allergies! Absolutely loved this little cabin on the lake.

We stayed at this cottage for the weekend in October and had a great time. You feel right at home - it is clean, cozy and comfortable. The view of the lake is beautiful and the cottage is the perfect blend of modern amenities and rustic charm. Beautiful slate floors downstairs and a newly remodeled bathroom are great features. Large screen TV was nice and my seven year old son really appreciated the game cube that was available for his use. It is just a few miles from downtown Potsdam (we were in town for a hockey game at Cheel arena) and far enough away you feel like you are in a country setting. Because of the time of year, we were unable to take full advantage of the lake but we would love to come back and visit next summer when the sun is shining. Overall we would definitely visit again and would recommend this cottage to any Potsdam and/or Clarkson alum looking to spend a nice weekend walking down memory lane!

Wonderful cottage!
October 11, 2011
We rented this cottage while visiting our son at Clarkson University. It was so much more enjoyable than traditional lodging. Sitting by the lake listening to the migrating Canada Geese was really neat. Cottage was spotless and very comfortable. Our dog enjoyed lounging on the deck in the warm sun.

Quiet Retreat
September 11, 2011
Great place to relax and enjoy water activities! Beach is weedless and sandy. You can catch fish right from the dock or take your boat on the little-used lake. My husband brought his reclining lawn chair and loved sitting on the dock to fish and read. The town of Waddington is about 25 minutes away with free launch on creek that quickly leads to the St. Lawrence River. The cabin is easy to keep clean. The new bathroom is awesome! The water is "high lead" content, but buying water and groceries in nearby shopping centers is easy. The cabin seems secluded, but actually is close to everything we needed!

Ideal Girls Weekend
September 5, 2011
This cottage was the perfect venue for our girls' weekend with peaceful lake views, canoeing right from the house, Norwood Beach around the corner and fabulous biking and running routes nearby. The firepit by the shore and wonderful deck provided all options for shade and sun as well as easy grilling opportunities. We had the quiet getaway we were looking for and everything was perfect! We will certainly return!

A Pleasant Place to Stay
August 25, 2011
My husband and I stayed for a week at this cottage. We initially picked this site for its proximity to our daughters' homes. We found the cottage to be clean and inviting. We especially enjoyed sitting on the deck in the mornings and evenings with a nice view of the lake. It is a place we would choose again to stay.

One word - Perfect.
August 5, 2011
My boyfriend and I rented the cottage for the Canadian long weekend. Although it was a bit far from us in Toronto it was every bit worth the time and traffic to get there. We couldn't have had a more perfect weekend. We had big plans to explore the area on our motorcycle but once we got to the home we couldn't bring ourselves to leave! It has everything you could want or need. The deck is great, we spent two days on it in the sun BBQing, playing cards and enjoying the view. There is a general store a short distance away with very friendly employees. We very much enjoyed sitting on the dock as well and went swimming several times a day. There was lots of wildlife including ducks, deer and robins that we miss out on in the city. The privacy and peace and quiet the cottage offers is not overstated. Donna the owner is very available for questions and very friendly. Do yourself a favor and rent this cottage, I'm so glad we did.

Me and my family had a great time at the lake house. We got to spend a great 4 day weekend with our kids and our son who is stationed at Fort Drum. We caught a lot of bass right off the dock and shoreline and even landed a 36" northern pike. I would recommened this place for any family that would like to spend quality time together. Loved the small town atmosphere and really enjoyed dinner at the Lobster house which is located at the end of the road. Food service and price was excellent. Can not wait to go back and wish we were able to stay longer.

Great for a family gathering
May 29, 2010
It was a great place for our family to be together for out son's college graduation weekend. The deck, overlooking the lake, was great for morning coffee and after dinner gatherings. The paddle boat was fun. This was so much better for our family than hotel rooms. Wish we had more time to enjoy the property.

FUN TIMES!
September 1, 2009
We rented this property for a weekend and had a great time. The family all wants to do it again! The cottage was roomy and the outdoor area was great. The only suggestions we have is more lighting for the back stairs and maybe a new shower. Even so, we wouldn't hesitate on renting again or recommending this place to anyone! It was lots of fun and great to have the whole family stay in one place!

fit us just fine
July 15, 2009
We enjoyed our stay at the lakehouse. The location was ideal for our reunion at SUNY Potsdam. There was plenty to do in the area. There was more than enough room for the three of us. We really enjoyed having our own dock and the town beach was minutes away. I would have loved better silver ware-this was well used, But for the most part the kitchen was fine for cooking. Be sure to get a meal at Sabad's in Norfolk. It's always busy and really delicious! Donna is a great host!

Graduation weekend
May 15, 2009
My wife and I are familiar with the cottage experience, so when we found this we jumped on it. Because it was graduation weekend for my son, we couldn't be there as much as we wanted to. But we know it will be a terrific option for future visits. Everything is as advertised. Plenty of sleeping space, everything you need. Very nice and cozy, with a terrific setting.

We rented for a week while on business. Much better than staying in a hotel. Being able to cook our own meals was a plus. The lake was beautiful. We were able to get out on our canoe a few times. The leaves were almost at peak and just beautiful. It is centrally located for where we were working.

Enjoyable Stay
August 26, 2008
We rented the place for a week when we went to drop off our son to Clarkson University. The home is beautiful with a large deck and view of the lake. It was close to the college, Lake Placid and Canada and so much more comfortable than a hotel room. Donna’s warmness in welcoming us to her home was evident in how the home was maintained. We plan to make it our home every time we visit our son for the next four years. The North Country region is beautiful to explore and come back to a warm home.

Great Time
August 9, 2008
My son and I stayed the first week of August, 2008. We had a great time. We kept our boat at the dock and fished every morning and evening. The cottage was exactly what we were looking for. Centrally located and in the perfect setting. It is had keeping a 17 year old son happy but with all the good fishing it was easy. Donna, it was a wonderful experience. Keep up the good work.

Great Vacation
July 2, 2008
We had a small family reunion here and had a wonderful time. The fishing was great, and the firepit was a very nice touch. The Lake itself is very peaceful, quiet and beautiful. The location of the Cottage is nice because it gave the feeling of seclusion, but there are stores and luxuries just minutes away. We'd recommend this Cottage and plan to return.

lovely little cottage
August 21, 2007
Plenty of room and ambience in a cottage with a lot of room to run around outside and a beautiful lake to watch a sunset. Huge deck makes for great grilling and eating outdoors. There's easy access to the nearby towns as it's close to the highway but far enough away to be safe. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay there and the owner was very helpful and let us use a lot of stuff there.
Owner Supplied Testimonials

We bought this home when we lived in Florda. Every summer we flew up a couple times to use it. It is wonderful. We finally retired to this area. We enjoy the home when it is not rented and we try to limit it's use. We rent only 4-5 times a year to make a dent in these high New York state taxes! We would like to extend our summer home to you and hope that you will care for and enjoy it as much as we do every summer! Hopefully you too can sit on the deck, look at the lake and exclaim " Now this is livin'!"
Note on water- it is high iron- (NOT LEAD as in one review!!)- it is lab tested and approved for cooking, bathing and drinking.
