Description of the Oakridge vacation cottage rental

TIRED DOG RANCH, your Get-Away from the "dog-eat-dog world" offers the perfect respite after a long day of romping in the woods, rolling in the meadows and peddling or hoofing to your hearts content around the hundreds of miles of mountain biking, horseback riding and hiking trails that surround the majestic Cascade Range near Oakridge, OR - mountain bike capitol of the NW.

The ARTFUL COTTAGE (SLEEPS 6), our most popular vacation dwelling, features festive artwork by the local color, sumptuous south-facing views of the old growth Willamette Forest at the base of the Cascade Range, with trails just steps away, and plenty of room to drop the bags and cares and go explore. Cuddle up to a warm wood stove fire upon arrival, relax and enjoy the various mediums of art, read a book, watch a movie and surround yourself with a fully furnished dwelling ready to accommodate your every need (okay... bring the toothbrush).

Summer (April 1 - Oct. 31) Rates:
$150/night - $900 week (7th night is free), $1600 two weeks (10% discount).

The COWBOY CABIN (SLEEPS 6), with all the charm a true cowboy/girl can giddy up to, is equally nostalgic and comfy. Saddle up to a breakfast bar, or cozy up to the wood stove with river rock hearth and enjoy open beam comfort to soothe the eye and achy muscles. This dwelling, made 100% from recycled materials, is eye candy mixed with true cozy comfort (the smallest of the TDR dwellings). Features include private bedroom, sleeping loft, small library, hardwood and ceramic floors, custom tile work in bathroom shower and one-butt kitchen w/antique fridge. Just a short stroll to the upper meadow where you can strap up or strip down your pony, launch new discoveries on the many trails that branch from the property, or howl at the moon over an open pit fire some starry night with Big Dipper and his buddies putting on a show.

Summer (April 1 - Oct. 31) Rates:
$150/night - $900 week (7th night is free), $1600 two weeks (10% discount).

The CELESTIAL YURT (SLEEPS 4-5) is unique, fun, romantic and off the chart surreal. If you enjoy not being a square, embrace the revolving beauty of this perfectly spherical 30' domed dwelling, I promise your stay will be serene, magical and off the beaten path. Open floor plan with thick plank floor, comfy queen bed, extra padded pull out double couch, LCD TV, DVD's and CD's and knick-knacks to tantalize and titillate the senses (massages never felt so good). Just relax and enjoy your stay! Additional single cot with pad and sleeping bag tucked away - sleeps up to 5 and is bound to be fun for everyone. Super KID friendly (maybe a little much for the doggie?) with games, wood castle building blocks, Thomas the Tank Engine train set, books and puzzles for the little ones! Cocktails on the new deck make the scenery dreamy, or go for a stroll to year-round Grey Creek, named after our area's 'dogfather' homesteading Isreal Grey back in the day.

Summer (April 1 - Oct. 31) Rates:
$125/night - $750 week (7th night is free), $1,350 two weeks (10% discount).

WHAT ALL THE FANCY DOG HOUSES PROVIDE ~
All three dwellings provide fresh bedding, plenty of wood, kindling, paper and matches for fire (free lessons for you city folk). The kitchen & dining area feature real live electrically/propane operated appliances, table & chairs, cookware and serving plates, mugs, glasses, silverware, napkins and hand towels. The bathroom is prepped hot and cold water (no foolin'), clean towels, soap, shampoo and conditioner... but no iron cuz this ain't no business trip, baby!

REST OF THE RANCH ~
Features pastures w/purebred Spanish Mustangs, an ass and a mini pony, hillside, creek front, woodland and orchard dreaminess, an open air Long House for group gatherings, a Cadillac Camping Cook and Shower Shelter (say that 3X fast), multiple campsites (with mini fire pits) and composting toilets, potable water, and a large fire pit with seating in Upper Meadow (truly a collosium of lights on a clear night!). TDR's diverse 18 acre spread is backed up against the National Forest, the last outpost before the great wilderness. Just 3/4 mile to the east is Larison Rock Trail and the same distance to the west is Grey Creek Trail. 1-3/4 miles away you'll be skipping rocks along fun Willamette Riverwalk trails to Greenwaters Park. Keep on trucking over the river and through the park to Salmon Creek Trail and grandmother's house.

Are you ready to take that leash off and get your scout cap on? Water flasks and mosquito repellent smart. Pocket knives optional. Fun - a given.

Area Information

Oakridge and neighboring town of Westfir are located approximately 35 miles southeast of Eugene, Oregon - home of the University of Oregon Ducks, the Hult Center of Performing Arts and a host of other metropolitan delights. This mountainous area boasts of some of the most spectacular natural outdoor recreational delights, be it the hundreds of miles of mountain biking trails that sculpt access to the rich natural wonders of the area, or the many rivers, lakes, streams and creeks that meander through the land, rich with flora, fauna and wildlife. Train your kids and dogs to heel!

Visit Hills Creek Dam, swim at C.T. Beach, cast a line on the North Fork Willamette River or drop a kayak in the Middle Fork to get your outdoor game on. Enjoy getting your tootsies wet in the river at Greenwaters Park while basking in the sun and jamming to an outdoor concert - or cut over the bridge and stroll along the river's bank. Take a short drive to Oregon's longest covered bridge (the Office Bridge) at the trail head of the famous Aufderheide Biway - connecting Oakridge to Blue River and beyond. Herd the family in the car and cruize up Hwy. 58 20 miles to take in the sights and sounds of Oregon's second highest falls - Salt Creek Falls!

A few places to go, people to see and things to do while in town you ask? Start with a trip to the strip - featuring some standard blow through fast food establishments along with Chinese and Mexican sit down restaurants, Ray's or Rascals Markets. The fun begins in Uptown (Hwy. 58, left at the light, right on 1st St.) with a visit to Mountain Lion Bakery, an English Pub, or the Corner Bar - all with food and beverage to bless the beast and the children.

Get back to the simple - to the living of life - get unplugged from all that binds you down in the rut. Treat yourself to fun, relaxation, and getting your outdoor game on! So you aren't totally unplugged - there is wi-fi, Netflix and cell phone reception for ATT and Verizon users - no T-Mobile reception though. Smoke signals allowed :)

Frequently Asked Questions

Q:What are the most fun things to do while at Tired Dog Ranch?
A:The most popular activities start with walking the land, seeing the farm life (chickens, horses, wild turkey, friendly dogs and barn cats), and explore the diversity of the ranch - it's trails to the creek and the national forest. Search for mushrooms, ride a bike, build a fire, read a book, play a game, watch a movie and listen for the howls of owls and croaking frogs. On a moonlit night, it's always a blast to watch a falling star!
Q:Why Tired Dog Ranch?
A:This is not your run of the mill motel. No shared walls, no traffic in the background, no whitewashed standard utility grade atmosphere. This is your home away from home, the cabin in the woods that you don't have to carry a mortgage on - it's a little bit of everything rustic, yet elegant with something that brings us back to our roots.
Q:What else is there to do in the area?
A:Visit a few sites: Office Bridge (Oregon's longest covered bridge) in Westfir, Salt Creek Falls (Oregon's second highest falls - 26 miles SE of Oakridge), Fishing (pick a waterway!), hunting (seasonal and plentiful), horseback riding, hiking & mountain biking (many shared trails), kayaking at Hills Creek Dam, ATV'ing At Huckleberry Flats, bird watching at the top of Larison Rock, mushroom and wild flower identification along any trail or waters' edge, swimming at 3 mile (N. fork Willamette) or Greenwaters Park (Middle Fork Willamette).
