Thank you so much for letting us rent out your lovely vacation home. Rob and his mom enjoyed their stay. The bathroom had to be the most spectacular feature of the home. Our caterer loved the fact that they had a real kitchen they could use for once. Then there is the courtyard...It provided a lovely setting for our reception on a perfect San Diego day. There was not much need for extravagant decor as nothing can beat what nature has provided us in the courtyard. The fountain and the sound of the water was our musical backdrop.
The courtyard was quite lovely with all the flowers in bloom: lavender, jasmine, roses. Even the neighbor's orange tree wanted to be in the courtyard with all the orange fruits cascading in. We adored the pomegranate that was bearing fruit at the time. Let me say that it took a lot of will power not to pick the pomegranate. My mother adored the jasmines. I am so sorry but I had to pick a couple of jasmine blooms for her which she then took home to the Philippines.

Thank you, Faith. We will always remember you and your beautiful home.

Lynn & Rob

Dear Faith,
What a wonderful vacation and it was the little things that mattered most: A quiet backyard after an active day at the beach, the morning walk to get coffee at the local cafe, the chimes, the great books stashed in the quaint nooks of the house, the gorgeous garden, the quiet neighborhood, and of course the showcase home that felt both classy and cozy.
This spot was a gem, and we are also grateful we rented Seaview Villa, as it gave us easy beach access and splendid sunset views over dinner. We look forward to next year!

Faith,
Thank you for a lovely retreat. The Southern California weather was perfect - sunny days and refreshing ocean breezes. Casa By The Sea was so comforting - we enjoyed cooking in the great kitchen, evening fires, reading and lunch in the garden, and soothing spa baths. We also enjoyed some of your suggestions, especially the Farmers Market in Carlsbad (what a treat to have truly fresh fruit!) and the wine tasting at Thornton's Winery in Temecula. We planted a fresh herb garden and used them in our cooking. Hope your next guests enjoy them: Rosemary, Garlic Chives, Oregano, Thyme
Warmest Regards,
Chuch and Alison Boutcher

Thank you so much for sharing your secret hideaway out here by the beach. After losing our house to the fires, it was a blessing to have found you and Casa By The Sea. The beautiful decor and wonderful colors were like healing hands. We now feel invigorated to begin our new life again. We shall be in touch and have you over at our New Home on top of the mountain!
Much Love,

Thursday evenings 5 to 9 pm.

ANTIQUE STORES - STATE STREET in Carlsbad Village. Or take a country drive to Escondido or Julian, where you can find great buys and interesting pieces for great prices.

WINE TASTING - Our lovely Temeculah Wine Country offers beautiful scenery and some great little vintages.
Also, check out Old Town for antiques. Thornton Winery gets my votes for Best Wine Tasting - always served with hot baked bread.
Note: Their summer jazz concerts are pricey but worth it.

GLEN IVY HOT SPRINGS SPA - A little further north on the 15 from the Wine Country is this delightful day spa. For less than 50 bucks you get to spend the entire day relishing in a tropical wonderland of "Its All About Me" indulgement. Check out the underground caverns and discover a new layer of skin after scouring the mud off your sun worn body in the famous mud baths. Get a massage for no other reason than to have one of their very handsome young boys lead you back to a secluded hut for a guilt free rendevous. Some say this spa and its healing waters were founded by The Mafia - I say it was founded by the gods of bliss.

Calm clear waters in a quaint Mediterranean like setting makes for the ideal romantic escape. Relaxing and adventurous, you and your loved one can finally spend some quality Island Time together.

Great whale watching can be had at the same time. Fun to backpack the island with a picnic lunch. gotocatalinadotcom

BEST POOLSIDE B&E
FOUR SEASONS HOTEL - Just tilt your nose up a little and ACT like you belong there! (it helps to be blonde - and skinny) Also known for its World Class golf courses. O.K, so you may have to pay for THAT privilege: fourseasonsdotcom

LA COSTA RESORT '''''' is easily my personal favorite serenity spot. Purchase a massage and you get to play Queen for the day while enjoying all the amenities. The grounds are beautiful especially at night. Try the Blue Fire Grill for Happy Hour. lacostadotcom

BEST OUTLET ANYWHERE IN THE PLANET
THE CARLSBAD COMPANY STORES
premiumoutletsdotcom

BEST WAY TO TOOL AROUND TOWN:
The Coaster.....no traffic lights, comfy seats, and a view of the coast all the way to your destination for just a few bucks each way. You can leave your car and pick up at any village exit on the 5 for no charge. The Oceanside Coaster and Train Station is just a few blocks from both of the properties. Great way to see a Charger game!

WHILE YOU'RE DOWNTOWN: The Gas Lamp Quarter is easily the hottest spot in San Diego for nightlife. you single people should check out the W Hotel for a great happy hour on the Roof Top Beach. Since there are too many great dining places to choose from, its best to graze your way down 4th, 5th, and 6th Street for appetizers, entrees, and desserts.

BEST JAZZ STATION: 98.1 (kifm) will give you continuous updates on San Diego's famous jazz concerts. Also, this summer you will find them sponsoring some great Jazz Concerts on Oceanside's own pier. Tough to find a better venue than our own Pacific Ocean as a backdrop.

QUICK BITE: Buckaneer Beach Club is a few yards away from Seaview Villa, across from Buckaneer Beach. Excellent fresh Ahi sandwiches, Breakfast Burritos and Fish Tacos. Open by Chance but one worth taking

HILL STREET COFFEE SHOP '''''' 524 Coast Hwy
Organic '''''' healthy fare and a great little courtyard setting in an old Victorian house.
In the same setting, you will find a serene Spa and a better than average Sushi restaurant. Best of all, its a 2 minute walk from Casa By The Sea.

THE PIERVIEW WAY COFFEE SHOP:
I like to cruise down the beach - jog down the pier and cross back over to this coffee shop for a egg and cheese sandwich on fresh ciabatta bread. Just remember that your eggs always come scrambled in Southern California. (They will look at you weird if you ask to have it fried)

VIGILUCCIS Anything that says Vigiluccis on the Coast is going to be good. Check out their newest restaurant: Osteria, located on Mission in Oceanside. Great wine list and close enough to walk from Casa By The Sea. vigiluccisdotcom

VINE TO GLASS '''''' On Mission. Pretty decent little tasting bar with interesting collection of smaller reserves.

BAJA LOBSTER AT THE HARBOR
Buckets of fresh lobster and marinated chicken and carne asada. Plus a great Caesar and Salsa Bar. You can once again dream about being a boat owner and then just as quickly remember the price of gas and go back to humbly eating your taco.

DOMINICS AT THE HARBOR Hole in the Wall GREAT Italian Restaurant. Fabulous pizza with out of this world crust. Dominic might just crack open one of his better Chiantis if you ask really nicely.

BEST HAUNTS ON COAST HWY 101:
The Panikin Restaurant in Leucadia: A Pre-Starbucks Funky Coffee House. Try the curry chicken salad on one of their fresh baked bagels.

THE SELF REALIZATION CENTER '''''' In Cardiff - just walk through the ornate iron gate and take in the magic of these serene gardens overlooking the Pacific. No charge to discover who you REALLY are - but donations accepted.

THE CEDROS DESIGN DISTRICT
Just behind the historical train station off Lomas Santa Fe and Coast Hwy. Gotta try the Mac and Cheese at the Zinc Cafe. Wonderful boutique shops and completely unaffordable design centers.

BEST OCEANVIEW RESTAURANT
The Beach House in Cardiff on 101:
Dine upstairs '''''' cuz you may get splashed on the lower level when the surf comes crashing over the rocks.

BEST MEXICAN FOOD
My choice is Las Olas in Carlsbad on Coast Hwy or across from The Beach House above. Try the Sour Cream Enchiladas with a fresh mango Margarita. Best Salsa too!

BEST MEXICAN PARTY PLACE
COYOTES - For good food and live bands- w/ cozy outdoor firepits for great margarita conversations - Carlsbad Village

BEST FAST FOOD MEXICAN
We have more of these than other cities have McDonalds. I like Roberto ''''''s on Oceanside Blvd and 101 and Juanita ''''''s in Encinitas.
For the best bowl of Mexican Chicken Soup in the city, try La Especial Norte in Leucadia. Said by some to be the ONLY cure for the common cold.

BEST HAPPY HOUR
Calypso Café and its sister restaurant: Pappagallos for spicy south pacific fare and an excellent wine list. Located in Leucadia '''''' right before Encinitas. Blink and you might miss it.

BEST DATE PLACE
Vigiluccis on State Street in Downtown Carlsbad. Tranquil and romantic. Also private enough that you can play footsies or something a little more daring.

BEST PIZZA
Again, our local Restaurateur, located in Leucadia near Calypso Café: vigiluccisdotcom Gotta try the Four Cheese Pizza even if you are a Die-Hard Sauce person.

BEST BURGER
Roadhouse Grill: Next door to the Best Pizza guys above.

BEST BEACH WALK
Buckaneer Beach South to Carlsbad Village

SECOND BEST BEACH WALK
The Seawall in Carlsbad. Park at the West end of Carlsbad Village Drive

BEST DRIVE UP THE COAST
Oceanside to San Clemente. Go to Del Mar Avenue for fabulous antique and boutique shops. Try the Blue Fire Grill for dinner. Check out the all day Farmers Market on Sundays.

BEST MONTH TO VISIT SAN DIEGO:
OCTOBER, NOVEMBER, DECEMBER: No crowds, beautiful sunsets, crisp mornings

BEST PLACE TO GO ON A RAINY DAY:
Cruise down Grand Avenue in Escondido - about 10 miles inland which means chances are you get to enjoy a sunny day! Great Art Galleries, Fun artsy boutiques, a fabulous used bookstore, and for lunch, my personal favorite restaurant: Vincent's.
Try their amazing sweet potato ravioli in a beurre blanc sauce...perfect with a chilled glass of chardonnay.

Yeah, I know...ENOUGH about the wine! But hey, in an effort to discover the simple feat of being in the moment ....God gave us good wine and great coffee beans in order to savor the California experience. I'm just passin' in on.

BEST BOOKSTORE;
Barnes and Noble in Oceanside - across from Trader Joe's. Ask for a copy of my new book: POPCORN POPPIN ON THE APRICOT TREE - By Faith Paulus Or go to my site by the name of the same title, and order an autographed copy to be ready for your arrival!

Go to the Carlsbad official site for a calender of events including the free Friday night concerts in the park!

We had the BEST time in southern CA! The weather was so phenomenal, that I have insisted my husband revisit the area to look for a retirement spot! We went north as far as Laguna beach, and as south as San Diego, westward to Temecula, and covered the interior pretty well! We were taken with just about everything...the people...the food!...weather...ocean. I must say that we all agreed it was our best girls vacation ever.
We had such a nice comfortable stay at the Casa!

I can't believe how amazing you made my wedding! You brought such a sense of color and tranquility to what would have been a very stressful day! The garden at Casa By The Sea provided the perfect romantic backdrop for photos. I am so glad that we met and am now honored to call you a friend..

Faith,
Thank you so much for sharing your dream of a home with us. We had such a wonderful vacation. Casa By The Sea offered so much! The backyard was perfect to "hide" from the children. The kitchen was great to cook in. The walk to the beach and town was calm and relaxing. To the next people to stay here: You should definitely go to the Sunset Market on Thursday night (its like a Street Fair), Ruby's on the pier is great for dinner with a view. (Ask for Pamela - great waitress), South pier beach is great at night for a bonfire and to relax. Oceanside is great and Casa By The Sea makes it perfect. Thank you so much, Faith and GOD BLESS YOU....

We found Casa By The Sea to be a romantic and wonderful vacation experience. We were married at the Church down the street, and had 25 guests for the celebration in the backyard of Casa By The Sea. We stayed there for our honeymoon, and found that Casa By The Sea was warm and inviting and had all the luxurious comforts of a fine Bed and Breakfast. We also enjoyed being 6 blocks from the beach- away from the usual beach activity, but close enough for a perfect evening walk through this charming seaside neighborhood.
Highly recommended!

If its been a while since you visited Oceanside, California - you will be in for a pleasant surprise! We loved staying at Casa By The Sea, where we could walk to the Beach, to a great Coffee shop called Hill Street, and a fabulous little spa right around the corner. Views from the ocean are all around this neighborhood, and the beautiful California gardens of Casa By The Sea offered relaxing afternoon naps, and wonderful evening dinners. The vintage charm of this home exceeded our expectations and was far more elegant than any hotel room. Glad we made the right choice and we will be back to Casa By The Sea!
