Chauncey- not as advertised

September 14, 2014

We appreciated the close proximity to the beach and air conditioning in the Chauncey. We were VERY disappointed in many things such as the queen beds actually being double size (they are advertised as queens). The place was very untidy, lots of dust, dirt and grime. The bed spreads were definitely never washed and stunk. In the room with the twin beds, there was dog hair all over the bed skirts and under the bed. The fridge did not have a freezer and we could not get it on the correct setting (food was either warm or frozen). Also, when it rained, water came pouring in, from the wall above the window, in the bathroom and in the room with the double bed. We had to use our towels to clean up the mess (as there was a ton of water!). When we asked the real estate broker to pay for our dry cleaning, she refused and brought us towels that stunk of old cigarette smoke. Also, I left her messages to advise of the water coming in and she never returned my call, I had to phone her back the next day... she obviously knew of the problem and did not care. I stayed with my two young children and would never stay there again. Another person renting a pine scrub cottage at the same time as us told me that her place was a complete dump and she was extremely disappointed. These cottages are definitely not worth the money.

Other than the short walk to the beach not much more to say. Bed was not a queen as listed, sounded like something was breaking every time you got in bed. Mattress were probably 20plus years old. Most blinds on windows were broken or had pieces missing. Smoke alarms went off every time you took a shower, plus no back up batteries in them. We had flooding due to rain one day, water heater pilot light went out, took maintenance all day to show up, would have been nice if someone called just to check in after all the flooding. Bathroom was extremely small, sink did not drain well. Mold on ceiling in bathroom. You had to mess with handle in shower to find hot was not all the way left somewhere just shy of center. It states no check in till 2:00 due to cleaning, well if that's the case why was there wrappers on the floor, and I don't think the dresser or couch has ever been moved. As for the couch, disgusting, stained and dirty, I wouldn't let my dogs near it. Fridge - would have been nice to use freezer but due to ice build up couldn't. Out door shower would have been nice to use except door was off and broken. Screen on front porch was being held on by duct tape. Every morning I woke up with a head ache and very stuffy till I got outside. Tanks were empty on grills when we went to use them. No outside lighting to back yard. Will not recommend these cottages to anyone.

The place is small. There is a mini frig. There is no porch no stove and no grill. The windows do not open and we asked the cleaning lady who said that they never open. There is an ac available. The other units have grills in the yard. I personally would not return as it didn't suit my needs.
