Description of the Old San Juan vacation home rental
Three hundred plus (300+) years old house is located in the Old City. Have a leisurely walk to experience the colonial architecture of hanging balconies and cobble stone streets that would make you feel like you have gone back in time.

The city is surrounded with a massive wall and fortifications that were built to protect it from land invasions; the house is across the street from San Cristobal and El Morro fort.

Old San Juan is the home port to the most important cruise ship lines. Duty Free shops and exciting nightlife, lots of international cuisine restaurants.

Spectacular Atlantic Ocean view.

Wonderful home right in the heart of the city

Beautiful apartment close to El Convento and lots of wonderful restaurants and great shopping. Perfect for a family or three couples. Enjoyed the terrace with ocean view. Would love to stay there again.

historic gem

September 27, 2014

My brother and I stayed at this property for 6 days and used it as our base for exploring and dining in the old city as well as daily drives to the east to play tennis.. The owner, Rosa Avalo, was terrific at providing fast turnaround on pre-rental inquiries and responded quickly to the couple of questions we had after arrival. The property is very well appointed with furniture that's consistent with the 300 year old house. The two baths are sumptuous--constructed of marble and of a modern, luxurious design. The location is excellent. Although it's in the northeast corner of Old San Juan the walking in the 8 square block OSJ is easily accomplished. This home had been recently used as the owner's personal residence, so it's fully outfitted with everything a tenant could want. The biggest negatives are the absence of cable TV-- despite the 3 high def. sets in the LR and BRs. Another negative is the need to access the second floor (BRs and baths) via a steep steel, spiral staircase. Because the colonial building has a very high first floor ceiling (probably 13' plus) it takes a while to negotiate the stairs, and that area was hot and not reached by the BR or LR air conditioners. All in all our stay was delightful, and we'd do it again. Another factor to consider is that the old city has very narrow streets and essentially no street parking. The public lots are a 20 minute hike, although in our six days we were always able to find a street spot within ten minutes walk. You just have to be patient enough to cruise the streets and wait for an opening. The front view from the guest bedroom is spectacular, with a line of sight across San Cristobal lawn to the ocean; however the master bedroom at the rear looks across a narrow street into neighboring second floors and is subject to a fair amount of noise. The rent was reasonable for the quality of accommodation, and it's worth the premium to be ensconced in the middle of so much history.
