Description of the Onset vacation home rental
Onset is an historic Victorian waterfront community in the Town of Wareham Massachusetts on the shores of Buzzards Bay. Onset offers 2 miles of sandy beaches, 2 golf courses nearby, Cape Cod Canal cruises, whale watching, fishing charters, and kayaking all may be arranged at Onset's pier. The water is just a short walk away from anywhere in Onset Village.
Popular Onset events include: Escape the Cape Triathlon and Kayak Poker Run in June, Summer of Love Music Series, 4th of July fireworks, Onset Bay Movie Company Thursday Night "free" movies, Illumination night in August and Onset Blues and Cape Verdean Festivals.
Favorite excursions of past guests include trips to WATER WIZZ WORLD, (an outside water park located in Wareham), bike, rollerblade or walk the Cape Cod Canal walkway (7 miles long), take a Cape Cod Canal Cruise (leaves from Onset Pier offering day and night cruises), Plimoth Plantation (a living museum in Plymouth, Massachusetts that shows the original settlement of the Plymouth Colony established in the 17th century by English colonists), Pirate Cruises for kids out of Plymouth (Includes: pirate hats, face painting, treasure, buccaneer brew and a boat load of fun), day trips (midweek only, not recommended on weekends due to traffic) to Cape Cod towns, day trips to Martha Vineyard or Nantucket (via cruises out of Woods Hole in Falmouth, MA).
Come enjoy our renovated WATERFRONT 2-story home with direct access to the ocean bay waters from the deck. Relax on the fully furnished deck. New deck furniture includes two wicker rockers, a dining table with seating for 4 (with an umbrella for shade) and 4 zero gravity lounge chairs. Watch the tide come in and out and enjoy the peacefulness and tranquility of listening to the waves from the boats pass by. Morning coffee or OJ is a must on the deck as you enjoy the warm rays of sunshine as you witness some of the most beautiful sunrises right over the ocean water.
Our home is perfect for kayaks, canoes or even your own boat (a mouring is available just off our deck). If you kayak, Onset is a great location. Our home resides on ocean bay waters so it is very calm for the beginner kayaker. However the wide open ocean is just strokes away for the more advanced kayaker.
Favorite activities from our pass guests include swimming, fishing (sea bass and strippers), crabbing right off our deck. The kids will love it.
Our home includes a sunny open floor plan with hardwood floors throughout the main level and second floor, a fully equipped kitchen, a full tub bathroom (so the little ones can have their tubby time), gas grill, fully furnished side porch and deck, open, beautifully landscaped yard, private driveway for off street parking.
Our second floor includes 3 bedrooms:
1 Queen w/AC and TV,
1 Full w/AC and
2 Twin beds w/AC
Each bedroom has hardwood floors and it's own door for privacy as well (some homes/cottages do not.. beware). All linens are provided!
Our home is a YEAR ROUND home so feel free to come stay with us during the off season months.WE HAVE HEAT.. The fall is a perfect time to visit us and experience the CAPE and miss the crowds!
We have owned and rented our home in Onset for 7 years. We seek to provide you with a clean home away from home while you are on vacation. We use a professional cleaning crew after each of our guests. We have many return guests and referrals. Please read our reviews from past guests.
Our home is a short walk from Onset Village.
Nearby you can find golf courses (Bay Pointe is just 5 min drive from our home), the Water Wizz water park, go-carts, miniature golf, a bowling alley and an arcade. Rollerblade, bike or walk the Cape Cod Canal which is within a 5 min car ride.
Onset has many activities scheduled throughout the summer including July 4th fireworks (last year we enjoyed a pre-show right from our deck conducted by the locals and the village fireworks are amazing), blues festival, illumination night (where the town beach is lite with candles), FREE music and movies at the band shell in the center of town and the Pan-Mass Challenge which tours right through the town center of Onset (July bike tour which is used to raise money for cancer research).
We are within 5 miles of the Massachusetts Maritime Academy, for those families needing a place to stay while visiting or coming for graduation.
Convenient and popular excursions include watching a baseball game of the Wareham Gatemen (includes aspiring or recently drafted players… Nomar Garciaparra played in this league), Plymouth (Plimoth Planation and Pirate Cruises of Plymouth) has been a huge highlight for children as noted from past guests), Martha's Vineyard, New Bedford (Whaling Museum and Buttonwood Park Zoo), Mashpee (Outlet shopping), Hyannis for Whale Watching and the remaining areas of the Cape Cod for beaches, lighthouses, and many great excursions.

the best 5 weeks of our lives

This home is perfect for a couple or people with two children. At high tide one dives off the porch into the beautiful clean sea. All equipment and bedding and towels are ample and of the highest standard but no washer and dryer. We would have stayed another four weeks weeks but it was rented.
Great stay in Onset

Thank you to Joe and Wendy who did their best to satisfy our family (2 adults + 2 kids under 3). The house is peaceful and full of light. Great terrace, 3 comfortable rooms, little private beach (ideal for families), etc. The house is in a village (Onset) which is at the door of Cape Cod. We will come back!

Wonderful Getaway location

This vacation cottage was exactly what we were looking for in a well apportioned waterfront home. We spent many hours enjoying the views and the sealife around the property. We would reccomend this place to any of our friends and family and hope to get a chance to stay again in the future.

Our family vacation was very relaxing and comfortable and we would recommend this home to anyone interested in visiting the area. Also, the owners are nice and help make the overall rental experience a pleasure.

This was a great Family Vacation! Our children loved it. We have been at the same location 2 yrs in a row, and the kids cant get enough of it. In walking distance to the beach and ice-cream parlor, and boat rides. Music in the park in evenings that you can hear at this location, the beach right off the deck is great the kids would play all day long which was so convenient. Lot's to do or if you want to lounge its great too. The house was beautiful, the kids used front lawn to play ball and also could color on the sidewalk with chalk. My family Recommends highly if your looking for a great family vacation. The kids will be asking when are we coming back.

Thank you so much for a wonderful week! We had a great time. Loved the gorgeous setting. The sunrises were amazing and we didn't even had to get out of bed to enjoy them. We loved the beach and the playground and watching boats from the deck. Thanks again!

A very nice week in Onset.. as relaxing as it gets with small children. Our kids are 2, 2 and 4 and we enjoyed a day out in Chatham. There is a very nice and new playground across from the railroad museum and good food at the Chatham Village Cafe. Here in Onset we enjoyed both playgrounds and the beaches.. and breakfast at Pier View was great.. try fresh spinach omelet! Thanks as well for the very helpful guide books and map.

We had a fantastic week here in Onset! What a perfect spot for families with young children. We loved swimming at Shell Point, walking to Nana's for ice cream and the Cup of the Bay for fabulous ice coffees. The restaurant recommendation for Ella's was really terrific too!

We had a very relaxing get away at your lovely home. Views are terrific and it is so blessedly quiet here! Enjoyed your recommendations of Bailey's, Cup of the Bay and a great "diner" breakfast at Pier View. Traveled around a lot so didn't get a chance to try Ella's but hope to next time if we have the good fortune to return next time for an entire week. Thank you.

The kids loved their cozy beds, deck and porch to watch the speed boats whiz by. Grandma loved Bailey's food. Mom loved the views and comfortable beds and quaint Onset Village. Other highlights included the Horse Neck Beach, New Bedford Whaling Museum, mini golf, playground, ice cream and of course the Ocean. Thanks for all your helpful accommodations. We hope to be back someday soon.

We had a fantastic week exploring the Cape. Loved the area and we will return. All Joe and Wendy's recommendations were good... had superb meals at Ella's, Bailey's and The Stonebridge Bistro. Had a good breakfast at the Breakfast Nook on Cranberry Highway. Sandwich is a lovely village to visit... loved Sandy Neck. Also loved whale watching from Plymouth. Excellent kayaking at Dennis.. and there is still lots for us to do next time. Thank you both for letting us stay here.. what lovely views from the deck! People here are so kind. Thank you again.

We had a great Labor Day weekend... too short!! Sitting in the living room or on the deck during high tide and seeing nothing but water is heavenly. We went bike riding along the Cape Cod Canal and rented bikes. If you're lucky enough to be here on a Sunday night.. try the Blues Cafe for the all night blues jam.. amazing talent! Coffee in the AM at the Cup of the Bay, a friendly, cheerful establishment that has jazz on Sunday mornings

We had a wonderful stay at your house. Thank you for letting us use the crib. The baby pool was perfect for the kids to get all the sand off. We loved building sand castles on the beach, then coming back here to float on the water. We enjoyed going to Water Wizz World, The Heritage Museum in Sandwich and shopping in Falmouth. Thanks! It was fun!!

Stunning views to wake up to. Lovely, comfortable home. Whale watching from Provincetown was absolutely breathtaking. Trip to Martha's Vineyard was a good day out... hire a jeep and see all the island. David and Gabriel would recommend Bay Point golf course. Kids loved crabbing and the batting cages at Go-Kart centre on Cranberry Highway. Beaches were ideal for families. Ate out at Lindsey's (very popular), Marc Anthony's (very lively & reasonable), Breakfast Hook (great selection). All in all a fantastic week. An oasis in a very busy life. Hope to return next year.

We had a great family vacation at your warm & inviting home. Our children enjoyed crabbing everyday and although no fish were biting the girls tried their hand at it every day of the week. My youngest did catch her first Sea Robin and was very proud. We took a ride to Plymouth to the Plymouth Planation which was great.. would highly recommend it. We also enjoyed shopping in Falmouth, ice cream and daily rides on the bikes in Onset Village. The beach in Onset Village was 4 stars! Thanks again.

Thank you for your hospitality, your suggestions and of course cannot leave out the delicious baked goods that awaited us! We loved your place... the great window breezes and views especially. The kids were on constant "exploration" mode... checking out the tide level and looking for shells and rocks. It was a perfect way to kick off the summer. Thank you again!!

We needed a quiet place to stay while we were in the USA for two weeks and easy to get to and from whilst visiting Niagra Falls and New York. We found both here in Onset. We would recommend to anyone who wanted to mix city visits and being able to rest that they come here. The outlet village shopping in Wrentham is well worth the visit. A trip to Provincetown at the end of the Cape is great.. needs to be done during the week and NOT the WEEKENDS! We can recommend the food and meals at Stonebridge Bistro which is just a 10 min walk from the house in Onset. The ocean water just off the deck was great for a swim. We have traveled to many holiday places in Europe but this is the most relaxing place we have rented with no pressure to leave the house or come in when you please. Thanks to the Somersets and their American hospitality.

We were pleasantly surprised by Onset. Never having been to the area. We were thrilled by the wonderful views off the deck and tons of crabs the kids caught. In turn, the comedy shoe at Salernos was excellent and very affordable. The Whaling Museum in New Bedford was unbelievable and well worth the trip, as well as Davy's Locker (kids eat for FREE) with wonderful views. The Battleship Cove in Falls River was unlike anything we have ever seen. You can easily spend all day and not see everything. Of course the beaches were great, even the town beach to the right of the pier. We enjoyed our stay very much and were very comfortable. Loved the whale table in the house.

What a fantastic place to stay. My children loved it and it's nice just to walk to the Onset beach and pier. At the pier you can take the Cape Cod Canal sightseeing tour. My boys ages 4 and 5 years old loved the Pirate Cruise out of Plymouth. Thank you again for a wonderful vacation!

Thank you for the nice stay in your lovely home. My grandsons spent a few days and had a great time. They loved the Pirate Cruise out of Plymouth and they enjoyed the crabs and other ocean life at the beach. Onset is a very nice little village. Very relaxing for us. We loved as well outlet shopping at Wrentham Village (40 mins. from your home in Wrentham, MA).

Your family's home is now a treasured part of our family's memory. And I mean family. We were here as part of our family reunion. We all love, love, love this home and cannot wait to come back!

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!!! Your house is the perfect family get away. Relaxing, beautiful and has something for everyone. The kids LOVED being able to go in the water from the deck. They went fishing and crabbing right off the deck. Taking a trip onto the Cape we enjoyed the Duckmobile Tour in Hyannis. Ferry to Martha's Vineyard. Walking through the towns souvenir shopping. They also enjoyed Water Wizz World right here in Onset. Also the things you left at the house are perfect: croquet, kiddie pool and sand toys. It was so nice to be able to come in the house and have all the info needed to plan our week right here!! The special touches made this our home away from home. Thanks for letting us use your crib and pack-n-play. It was great to not have to lug ours with us. We definitely hope to return again!
