Description of the Ormond Beach vacation home rental
Mermaid Cottage, a beachside home with a private courtyard pool is a long term rental available for 6 months and 1 day +. This 1938 Craftsman bungalow, has just been lovingly restored and updated for today's lifestyle. This lovely 3 bedroom, 2 bath home is a perfect retreat for anyone desiring a beach house home (5 minute walk to the beach) in a quiet residential neighborhood.
The cottage features a private pool with teak loungers, umbrella table, waterfall, stainless steel gas grill, and of course deluxe pool floats in an enclosed courtyard graced by swaying palms.
You can relax in the master bedroom as you listen to the trickling waterfall of the pool or lounge on the daybed in the keeping room with a good book.
Mermaid Cottage was inspired by a painting the owners fell in love with titled, The Mermaids, which hangs over the masonry wood-burning fireplace in the living room. The owners have a passion for antique rattan and the living room features a unique Heyward Wakefield design. Designer fabrics have been used throughout the home to create a tropical Key West atmosphere. The kitchen features blue quartz countertops and all new Kitchenaid stainless appliances (including an ice machine). Cooks will love to try out some traditional Florida dishes from the cookbook collection. Guests will also enjoy reading books from the library and relaxing in the adirondack chairs on the front porch.

About Ormond Beach:
Ormond Beach, Florida is an ideal destination located on the eastern coast of Florida. Ormond Beach is easily accessible via I-95 (which runs north to Maine and south to Miami) or I-4 (which connects the east and west coast of Florida). Daytona Beach International Airport is conveniently located just a few miles away near the intersection of I-95 and I-4.
Ormond Beach is just north of Daytona Beach, famous for the Daytona International Speedway, Spring Break, and annual events for motorcycle and automotive enthusiasts. In addition to all the attractions of Ormond Beach and Daytona Beach, this location is an ideal base for living in central Florida. From here, you're 50 miles south of Saint Augustine, 60 miles from either Orlando or the Kennedy Space Center and Port Canaveral, and just 80 miles south of Jacksonville.

Ormond Beach developed at the turn of the 20th century as a vacation retreat for the country's ultra-wealthy, including the Vanderbilts, Flaglers, Astors, and John D. Rockefeller, whose home "Casements" now serves as the Ormond Beach Community Enrichment Center. Early automotive pioneers drove their motor cars up and down the hard-packed sand beach, earning it the nickname, "The Birthplace of Speed." [More about Ormond Beach history.] Driving is still permitted on parts of Ormond Beach, but cars are prohibited at the northern end of the beach.
The City of Ormond Beach is located on either side of the Halifax River, which is part of the Intracoastal Waterway (a series of federally maintained navigation channels extending from Norfolk, VA to Miami, FL). There are wonderful walking trails along the river, and the neighborhood all around Mermaid Cottage is great for walking and cycling.
There are a number of great parks and recreational areas in the vicinity, including Tomoka State Park, which offers a variety of outdoor activities, including camping, fishing, and canoeing. [More about area parks.] Great fishing is also to be had at the 1,540 foot Granada Pier in Cassen Park. Deep sea fishing is also available from nearby Ponce Inlet, where you can find a number of fishing charter services.
Ormond Beach also has some fine sporting facilities, including The Ormond Beach Tennis Center (just a few blocks from Mermaid Cottage) and the Ormond Beach Sports Complex. The great Daytona Beach area provides even more diversions, including: The Boardwalk (a historic amusement area with arcades and shops); several golf courses (or mini golf for the kids), Daytona Iceplex (ice skating) and Skate City Roller Rink, greyhound racing, horseback riding, and a variety of river and ocean cruise opportunities.
