Description of the Orvieto vacation apartment rental
Casa Vista Verde is a two level unit in a wonderful old stone attached country house, lovingly restored to a rustic beauty with modern conveniences. Every window overlooks olive trees or a valley of wooded hills and distant mountains. The unit has a terrace suitable for breakfast or dinner outdoors. The top floor with a wooden beam ceiling has a large bedroom with a master bathroom including a claw foot tub and a separate shower and another large bedroom, each with a double bed, accommodating four persons. The bedrooms are full of light with lovely views from all windows. The first floor has a small bathroom with shower, and an open floor plan with kitchen, dining area, and a living area near the wood burning fireplace.

Casa Vista Verde is located at the edge of the tiny village of Tenaglie with its Renaissance castle/fortress set into the hill, part of which has been converted into a charming three-level hotel and intimate restaurant with original stone walls and period furnishings. A short walk north is the lovely medieval hill town of Montecchio with shops, three cafe bars, two superb restaurants, post office, bank, and open market every Friday morning.

Mountain View: We are not really in the 'mountains', rather we are within the green rolling hills of Umbria with lovely views of vineyards, olive groves, woods, and old ruins. WiFi (Wireless Internet): Local WiFi is supposed to be available in our area at some point, but as of now the plan is not completed. However, we are told that one can purchase a 'card' for your laptop at varying costs for specific amounts of time, similar to buying calling time on a cell phone card. .Splendor in the Green Heart of Umbria is charming, comfortable and quiet with stunning views of olive groves, vineyards and rolling green hills. It looks exactly like the pictures and has a very welcoming, warm and cozy feel.
There was a vase filled with beautiful fresh sunflowers to greet us as we entered. One of our favorite things to do was to sit out on the balcony/patio for breakfast in the morning and wine and appetizers in the evening. The views are spectacular and the area is very quiet even though there are some homes nearby. It was such a delight to watch children playing and laughing each evening. It was perfect sleeping with the windows open each night. We were even treated to a few nighttime thunder and lightning storms that were spectacular.
Kate and Merritt are the perfect hosts and provided very helpful information regarding the hill towns and sights to see in the area. There is a binder in the living room with maps, directions and tips to getting around the area. There are also some books and pamphlets that proved to be very helpful. The new addition of Internet service was wonderful as it allowed us to stay in touch with family back home.
Roy, the caretaker, guided us to the apartment and made sure we were settled and had everything we needed. He was only a phone call away should we have needed anything.
Cafe Giubbini in the nearby town of Guardea has amazing Cannoli! We enjoyed an excellent Italian dinner at Ristorante La Perla in Montecchio.
The location of the apartment was perfect for our day trips to the hill towns in Umbria as well as Tuscany.
Thank you Kate and Merritt for sharing your beautiful home. It was truly a dream come true!

Beautiful Umbria

.My husband and I recently returned from spending three wonderful weeks in Tenaglie, a hamlet just outside of Montecchio. Having family in Florence, we have always stayed somewhere in Tuscany. This year, we thought we should try a different region to explore. Umbria was chosen, and we found Casa Vista Verde - it was perfect. The pictures are beautiful, and show the house exactly as it is. We found It to be spotless as well as having everything we would need. Sitting on the terrace after a day of hiking up and down the hill towns was a perfect ending of the day. Watching a sunset or the clouds rolling in before a storm over the valley was beautiful. Roy, the property manager, is a warm and welcoming man with a wealth of knowledge of the area. He was only a telephone call away, and he and his wife Evanne could not have been more friendly and open. Once we got the lay of the land, we were going regularly to the butcher, vegetable market, bakery and bar for our espresso.

When we travel to Italy, our goal is to be as a part of the Italian life as possible. If that is your goal as well, consider Casa Vista Verde - we are so glad we did.

Great Time in Umbria!

.Our place was absolutely beautiful and in a perfect location. Roy and his wife met us and were great in showing us the ins and outs of the villa, the neighbors were very cordial and kind to us. I had clothes drying outside one day and it rained while we were gone. The next door neighbor put the rack of clothes under cover for us! We were able to visit Montepucciano, Pienza, Orvieto, Spoleto, Todi, Guardea, Montefalco, Cortona, Lugnano, and Montecchio. We also could have gone to Gubbio and Assisi but had already visited those towns.

Loved La Locanda restaurant in Montecchio! Such great food and service that we went their twice. We also visited the Falesco winery for a tasting and a purchase.

One word of caution...bring your own coffee maker as there wasn't one here. Otherwise, a beautiful kitchen, comfortable beds, nicely decorated, good patio, and convenient food shopping and eateries.

Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Authentic Italy at Your FingertipsâPeaceful, Beautiful, Relaxing, Delicious!

.My husband and I chose to spend our honeymoon here, and we could not have made a better decision. This apartment is charming, comfortable, spacious, and beautifulâand best of all, private! The views are even more beautiful than the photographsâroses, olive groves, and you can see the entire valley below for miles, all the way to mountains in the distance. We had the windows open most of the time to let in the fresh air, and the quiet was so refreshingâonly church bells and the occasional barking dog. We got to meet Kate and Merritt, who are so welcoming and friendlyâthe perfect hostsâas were Roy and Evanne, the property manager and his wife. We will definitely be back!

We highly recommend La Locanda, a local restaurant and coffee bar nearby in Montecchio. If you want some good exercise up and down hills, it's only about 30 minutes' walk, and an easy 8-minute drive. It is the best food we have ever hadâand the owner, chef, and staff welcomed us with open arms and treated us like old friends. We also recommend the grocery store in Guardea, which has a much bigger selection than those in Montecchio. Be sure to carry some cash, as many local places do not accept credit cards.

One word of advice: be sure to bring a guidebook, phrasebook, and/or map of the region, as there is very little access to internet in the surrounding area and many of the locals do not speak English. My husband and I found the Tom-Tom Italia GPS program very helpful; it can be downloaded to iPhone or iPad and doesn't require internet. Local signs are very thorough, too, and we were soon navigating on our own to nearby Orvieto.

Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

.Rachel and I just returned from 3 terrific weeks in
Italy, capped off by 6 wonderful days in the lower
unit. We found it exactly as advertised, beautifully
situated, lovely inside, and perfect for the two of
us. Although it was 95-104 degrees every day, we
found that the apartment kept quite cool and
sleeping at night was very comfortable. We loved
eating on the patio or in the back, depending on
sun placement. Many wonderful hill towns in easy
reach by car and great restaurants everywhere,
including: a great grill place where the chef likes to
surprise you) in nearby Montecchio; a pizza
restaurant (Trippini) in Civitella del Lago (7 km
away) with a panoramic view to die for; and Igelsi,
(about 5km away) which is a restaurant serving
surprisingly excellent seafood, even so far from the
sea. What a wonderful time we had.

.We too had a wonderful week here, in the upper
unit. It was just as advertised: lots of light, beautiful
views, fireflies at night, charming Montecchio
nearby, excellent restaurants in the area. Angelo's
all-purpose market across was a good source for
produce and picnic supplies. Kate and Merritt are
wonderful hosts. We're happy to recommend this
rental.

.We spent a great week towards the end of May 2009 in the heart of Umbria. Teh apartment was beatiful, the vistas spectacular and the people very friendly. I especially enjoyed starting every day with breakfast on the upstairs balcony overlooking the hills and valley covered in vineyards and olive orchards. We'd do it again. David Yellin.

.I stayed in the lower apartment in July 2009. It's a beautiful place. The attention to detail is impeccable. Located on the outskirts of the small village of Tenaglie, it's a great location -- perfect for day trips to Tuscany, Umbria or Lazio. Kate and Merritt are wonderful hosts; and Roy the caretaker, was so welcoming, and only a phone call away. The owners of the small grocery store across the street were a joy. The village of Montecchio, has shops, cafes, restaurants, post office & bank -- everything you would ever need. Rome and Florence are only a train ride away. The storybook hill towns in the surrounding area will seduce you. The summer sunsets viewed from the balcony are unforgettable.

If I owned a home in Italy, this would be the place -- it's quite simply paradise.

.We stayed in the larger apartment from Christams to New Year and it was a week-long dream vacation. Our bedroom with exposed roof beams overlooked an olive groove with a small ruin in its midst. The apartment is newly renovated. At night, we would cook meals with local ingredients and make fires in the working fireplace. The apartment is in a charming small town with major tourist sites within very short drives. We rented a car from Rome and drove to the apartment (only 45 minutes away) and took day trips in Umbria and Tuscany. Kate and Merrit are great hosts and their local care-taker was tremendously helpful. He offered tips for great restaurants, helped us settle in, and made sure we had everything we needed. I cannot recommend this place more highly and we look forward to returning very soon.

.I stayed in lower unit last oct. It was beautiful, spacious, well appointed and comfortable. the sights and views are wonderful. The nearby village is alive and fun with rich Italian family life--nice restaurants and great vino. It is truly an Italian experience and driving distance to great places(the roads are well marked) and nearby are two train trips to Rome and Florence. I can not wait to return.

.We spent a fabulous week in Italy. The accomodations in the smaller unit were excellent -all newly renovated, nicely furnished and very comfortable. There are lovely views of the countryside, gardens and beautiful sunsets! We rented a car in Orvieto and did lots of sightseeing in Umbria. We took the train from Orvieto to Rome and Florence and enjoyed those day trips very much. Merritt and Kate are wonderful hosts. You will love it!
