Description of the Orvieto vacation condo rental

Casa Uliveto is one of two units we offer within a wonderful old stone attached country house, lovingly restored to a rustic beauty with modern conveniences. Every window overlooks olive trees or a valley of wooded hills and distant mountains.

The charming Casa Uliveto (olive grove) is the smaller of the two units and is reminiscent of the interior of a storybook cottage, located on the ground floor of the main structure. It offers a bedroom with a wood beam ceiling and views to the olive grove, a small bathroom with shower and bidet, and an open kitchen, dining, and living area with a sleep sofa and a wood burning fireplace. This unit is very comfortable for two persons or for four persons if the sleep sofa is also used.

Casa Uliveto is located at the edge of the tiny village of Tenaglie with its Renaissance castle/fortress set into the hill, part of which has been converted into a charming three-level hotel and intimate restaurant with original stone walls and period furnishings. A short walk north is the lovely medieval hill town of Montecchio with shops, three cafe-bars, two restaurants, post office, bank, and open market every Friday morning. During seasonable weather, there is a town swimming pool available for a nominal fee.

You will be delighted with the many beautiful hill towns in this “little Tuscany”: Baschi, Giove, Alviano, Lugnano in Teverina, Amelia, Orte, Narni, and Civitella del Lago. Orvieto is 11.2 miles northwest (18 kilometers) and Todi is 18.6 miles (30 kms) northeast. Lago di Bolsena, 45 minutes by car, is the purest lake in Europe, where you can enjoy a day of swimming and picnicking.Nearby the lake are the hill towns of Montefiascone and Capodimonte to add to your pleasure.

The historic Umbrian towns of Assisi, Spoleto, Spello, Gubbio, and Perugia are all within picturesque day-trips by car or train. Florence is 2 hours drive north through the beautiful Tuscan countryside and about 1.5 hours by train, and Rome is 1.5 hours south by car or 1 hour by train from nearby Orvieto.

Property manager, Roy Diner, will meet you at a mutually convenient place, lead you to Uliveto, and insure that you have a carefree stay.

I stayed in the lower apartment in July 2009. It's a beautiful place. The attention to detail is impeccable. Located on the outskirts of the small village of Tenaglie, it's a great location -- perfect for day trips to Tuscany, Umbria or Lazio. Kate and Merritt are wonderful hosts; and Roy the caretaker, was so welcoming, and only a phone call away. The owners of the small grocery store across the street were a joy. The village of Montecchio, has shops, cafes, restaurants, post office & bank -- everything you would ever need. Rome and Florence are only a train ride away. The storybook hill towns in the surrounding area will seduce you. The summer sunsets viewed from the balcony are unforgettable. If I owned a home in Italy, this would be the place -- it's quite simply paradise.
