Area Information
Puna is a place for reflective relaxation, exploring lava tubes, lava flow, swimmming with spinner dolphins off Keheha beach, or soaking / swimming in the Queen's bath, built by ancient Hawaiians at the ocean's edge, ringed by palms, heated to low 90's by a geothermal spring. The ocean itself is in the low 70's. Enjoy both!!

Reviews for this vacation cottage rental in Pahoa, Big Island, Hawaii

The Other Side of Hawaii
June 23, 2012
The quiet, peaceful, side with thermal pools, rugged coastline, Lava Tree Park, great tide pools for snorkeling and good access to Volcano Park, which we saw on a full moon night during our 2 week stay in February. The cottage is as described and better than the the pictures. Great attention to detail, well-stocked kitchen, beautiful view and spacious grounds. The covered lanai with hammock, lounge chairs and dining table plus a reading nook adds lots of outdoor living space. A great place to do yoga using the mats thoughtfully provided. We had NO problems, but the property manager, Matt, is responsive and nearby if needed. Go and enjoy Isaac Hale beach park down the picturesque tree-lined road where locals surf. And do stay a week or more to truly slow down and unwind.
Owner's reply:
What could please us more than knowing that guests at Mahi Oli'Oli can experience the natural beauty of the Puna district and appreciate the care and thought we put into developing this awesome location on the Big Island of Hawaii. When guests like this one return for more restorative rest at our Hawaii Home, then we find ourselves even more glad to be hosts of a vacation rental in tropical USA. Thank you, Lenley!

A truly unique getaway retreat. The expanse of ocean view, sunrise on the lanai, tropical blooms and lush jungle, all within a few minutes of Puna's most popular natural attractions. It just doesn't get any better than Mahi Oli Oli. We will definitely be back!

Paradise
February 6, 2011
My husband honeymooned at Mahi Oli'Oli for 2 weeks in January of 2011. I feel like there are no words that could accurately describe what a magical place it is - it is truly paradise. The pictures shown on the website are really nice, but no picture could ever do it justice. Andy & Bob really have thought of everything. There are tons of books about the island, and there is a binder full of info on all of the local attractions, restaurants, beaches, etc. The kitchen has everything you could possibly need, and there are plenty of bath and beach towels. We were there for 2 weeks, and there was not one thing we ever had to go out and buy. There is only one neighboring house that you can see from one of the kitchen windows, but besides that you are totally alone in the most beautiful little house nestled in the rain forest. When we went in to town for groceries or dinner, the locals were always very friendly and helpful. Pahoa is not a tourist-y place at all, it's so quaint! We tried most of the restaurants in town (all were fantastic), and the Farmer's Market on Sundays is so great. When we were packing up, we were on our way to Oahu for one more week of our honeymoon, but I actually cried because I didn't want to leave. We're still in Oahu right now, and even though it is beautiful, nothing will ever compare to our trip to Mahi Oli'Oli. If I'm ever lucky enough to be back in Hawaii, I wouldn't stay anywhere else. Thanks so much Bob & Andy!!!
Owner Supplied Testimonials

We stayed at Mahi Oli 'Oli for two weeks in February 2010. The cottage and the amenities were as described- comfortable, stylish, secluded and relaxing. The setting was beautiful. Bamboo, palm trees, hala trees, garden, ocean view, beautiful sunrises, easy outdoor living on the lanai.
The owners/renters were courteous, accommodating, approachable and easy to deal with; the communication and transactions were trouble-free.
The highlights of our stay here included:
the serenity of the cottage
variety and quality or reasonably priced dining in nearby village of Pahoa
Maku'u farmers market (15 minute drive from cottage) every Sunday - fresh produce and ready to eat local specialties like papaya salad, pasteles, huli huli, fresh Kona coffee etc.... a must to visit
proximity to Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park (much closer that from Kona side of the island)
awesome snorkeling at Kapoho Tide Pools (10 minute drive away)
beautiful nearby rugged coastline (Cape Kumukahi)
beautiful lush country roads in the area
We enjoyed our stay at Mahi Oli'Oli! It's the off-the-beaten-path-Hawai'i that you won't experience staying at a Kona condo or a Kohala coast resort.

You've just got to see and feel it for yourself. The place has magic all over. I'm definitley coming back!! K Pearson, Seattle, April 2009
