Description of the Pahoa vacation guesthouse rental
Situated on three acres, Haven is located 250 feet from the main house surrounded by tall Eucalyptus trees, a wide spreading monkey pod tree, a banyon tree, a taro patch and numerous other coconut trees and other kinds of fruit trees. The Hale is round in shape and is totally off the grid, relying on solar power for electricity and a gravity fed water system. The outdoor shower can be described as a "gravity fed solar hot water shower", it is truly one of the features that makes it wonderfully unique from everything else. There is a great covered picnic table for eating, barbequeing and general relaxation. A "modern" outhouse with flushing toilet is some 70 feet away from the hale. The rock house itself is a roomy circular design with a bed/couch, a full working kitchen with a small refrigerator and propane stove top. A TV/DVD player with DVD's and some books are also included for your convenience. Two mountain bikes with helmuts and snorkling gear are included with the rental. This is truly one of the great and unusual places to stay on the Big Island, more like camping as all outdoor natural sounds are not muffled by walls and windows and should not be missed. We invite you to stay here at the "Adventurous Lava Rock Hale", a true value of rural Hawaii. Aloha!
Sunny Kapoho is an apt name for the exploration of Puna. Swimming spots such as Green Lake, Vacationland tidepools, the geothermal hot ponds and Pohoiki beach park are all minutes from our Lava Rock Hale. The red road is 10 miles of scenic driving through winding forests and ocean coast line. The ongoing lava flow into the ocean in Kalapana is some 25 minutes away and the everchanging way of how the lava flows is an ongoing and inspirational tribute to "Pele" Goddess of the Volcanoes. Groceries can be purchased in Pahoa town and there are many restaurants to eat at in Pahoa, including "Local", american, chinese, thai, japanese, mexican, italian, pizza etc... Sunny Kapoho is more country and its slowed down lifestyle is attractive to many people. There is plenty of natural beauty here to be had. While hiking, biking, swimming or driving, you may see wild pigs, soaring hawks, scurrying mongooses and many varieties of birds such as owls, mynah's and doves are just some of the sights. Our testimonials give a great insight into what it's like to stay here. Go to iks.mysite. for more info and an area map and directions to the Lava Rock Hale.

Reviews for this vacation guesthouse rental in Pahoa, Big Island, Hawaii
Adventure Lava Hale "WOW", October 23, 2009 It is my dream to someday have a "round house" which is why Rob picked your hale for our Puna adventure. The unique architecture and artwork are an inspiration that will be remembered when it is time to build our own 'round house'. Thanks for the coconut lesson and yummy starfruit! Jill & Rob,Kona,HI. 10/20
We have had a wonderful time, and are sad to leave. We had everything that we needed and were very comfortable. The outdoor shower is delightful! It is wonderfully relaxing to be here- just what we needed! Thank you for showing us Green Lake (Wai o Pele) it is a very special place. The whole area is so full of interesting places to see and things to do. Many more than we expected, and we only saw part of one third of the island.
We wish you good luck and success in your lives. Your hospitality and generousity was exceptional. Love to you both, Ruth & Trymon, Sonoma,CAL. 10/24-10/31/09
PS-I was puzzling over what it is about the round hale that makes it so special. What came to me is that it is very comforting and soothing. R
The cottage was a clever idea. The setting is beautiful. Thank you for all the suggestions, directions and use of the snorkling equipment. The tomatoes and fresh pepper was wonderful. Take care of yourselves and our little friend, Kismet. Nora & Eric, Strawberry Plains, Tenn. 8/26-9/27/09
Wow! What a wonderful time we had here. You have an amazing place here. Your love and excitement for the Lava Hale is felt throughout. We dont want to go! Thank you so much for all your knowledge, support and friendship. What truly amazing places Diane showed us. Thank you! They will never be forgotten, nor will the 2 of you. Enjoy! Desiree & Jeff, La Mesa, Calif., 10/3-10/10/09
You have without a doubt created a "Haven". I feel so fortunate to have found you and the Lava Rock Hale. From the first view online to my first moment here , I knew I'd found a real gem of a place to stay while I photographed the lava flow. Kapoho is a special place and your home is obviously built with love. I feel the Hale's loving embrace when I'm here and it's nurturing energy helped ground me as I worked on a very intense project. I really enjoyed the hospitality Eric showed me. It was nice to come back to my temporary home and be able to have a new friend to talk with. My next time here at the hale I'll be sure to schedule when Diane is here.
It wasn't just the human contact which made my stay here. The beautiful dogs and horse greeted me regularly, making me feel very welcome indeed. I wish you the best and will miss you. Ian Russel, Davis,Calif. 8/3-8/20
Thanks so much for your hospitality at Lava Rock Hale. My six days flew by. The setting is gorgeous and the Hale had everything I needed. I loved listening to the rain come in from far off. And thanks for the warning about the horse the first night, he definetly would have scared the bejeezes out of me if I hadn't known. It was great fun to watch him slurp up the last of the papayas you left. Aloha!
