The Lilacs Cabin was part of the Bailey Palomar Resort, but now has separate ownership. Homesteaded in 1888 this was the center of Palomar town-ship life with a post office, soda fountain, dance hall, general store and hotel. The Bailey's Resort grew from these beginnings. City dwellers, like the Native Americans before them, wanted to get away from the summer heat or enjoy the seasons. As a result, by the early 1920s the Baileys set up recreational summer tent camps and later began to build a few hand-crafted guest cabins including the Lilacs;
