Going WAY Downeast
June 11, 2012
The Artist Cottage was just what my husband and I needed,, still in the U.S., but just next door to Canada. We made two trips into Canada from two entries, and loved what we saw and did. Campobello was fabulous and we did indded have "Tea with Eleanor"---lovely..... The other trip was to St. Stephens and St. Andrews, where we visited their beautiful gardens, alive with blossoms and sculptures. Coming back each evening to the Artist Cottage was so very relaxing. The windows look out to the bay on the deck side, the other windows look at gardens and woods. The beautiful Cottage is decorated professionally--------at least we thought so, but the owner says she did it herself. Beautiful colors, gifted coordination in all aspects. We loved our stay in Northern Maine. I

Just what was needed
August 11, 2011
The week in Perry came at a time when we needed some quiet and some downtime. This was the perfect retreat! The cool sea breeze that blew through the cottage, the sunlight on the deck, the quiet, were rejuvenating. For our physical needs, the beach combing, the walks at Moosehorn, Shackford, Eastford, Machias and Lubec. The fresh seafood was delicious! Opportunities for great photos were everywhere. Pat provided the warmth and all the extra touches for a wonderful week. We will return!

Peace and quiet
June 26, 2011
This cottage is an idyllic spot for a chance to rest, relax, and unwind. It has everything you need for a quiet rainy day and also the perfect launching spot to explore all of down east Maine. The rocky cove is a short walk away. The many quaint towns are all a short drive. The owners have lovingly decorated the cottage and supplied with all the comforts of home. We came to Maine to celebrate our anniversary and left with renewed hearts and a favorite spot to vacation.

Patricia and Bob are lovely hosts, respectful of privacy and not to mention, fresh veggies from the garden. Nora in particular loved the "wind". Everyone in Eastport was friendly and we particularly recommend the Catbird Seat Gallery, the Liberty Cafe and Rapunzels. Lovely time!
August 11, 2012
We visited: Waterfalls, Eastport to sightsee, the rails to trails bike path in Machias, kayaked in Cobscook Bay, Lubec for sightseeing by ferry, Campobello, the lighthouses on Campobello and Lubec, A delightful area with plenty to do rain or shine.
August 4, 2012
My husband and I were here to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. The cottage is beautiful. The decorations and homey touches made the stay even more special. Trisha was a fabulous hostess and very accommodating. While we were here we took day trips to Acadia National Park. We biked on the carriage trails and had lunch at Jordan Pond House. We also visited Lubec and Campobello Island. We biked on the island and toured the Roosevelt summer home. Thanks for making our stay special!

The cottage is lovely and peaceful and sitting on the deck watching the moonlight is magical! Whale watching was partially successful- only saw glimpses of whales but saw porpoises and they are truly graceful. Had a wonderful day hike along the Cutler Coast Public Reserve land trails. The beautiful Maine coast is in full view along the coastal leg of the trail. The lobster and scallop rolls from Quoddy Bay Lobster were great as was the fresh salmon we bought there. Eastport is fun and the coffee from Dastardly Dick's Wicked Good Coffee is worth the trip alone! Visited Hopewell Rocks in Canada and had a great time! Wonderful vacation and hope to return!

We enjoyed our vacation every single day. It was so relaxing, enjoyable and peaceful! Hope to come back soon!

This is our second visit to Winkle and we love it more each time we come here. Charming, cozy, calming and clean sum it up. Winkle is cottage luxury. It is well appointed and you have thought of virtually everything to make the visit "best of class". The coastline and ocean views are to die for and the sky is peaceful, quiet and star-ridden on clear nights. Thank you again for making our visit so enjoyable and for keeping the property both inside and out in such pristine condition. Gardens amazing! We look forward to returning again!
August 13, 2011
Having our fresh cooked seafood complimented by your just picked greens from your garden was really awesome. Such a lovely change from city life! One week was far too short. Hoping to do a longer trip next year. Walking to the shore, picking wild blueberries and just sitting on the deck enjoying the view were all so relaxing. Thank you so much! We hope to see you again next year. Warmly,
Our week at Winkle Cottage passed too quickly. We ate fresh seafood, enjoyed hiking local trails, relaxed and read comfortably inside and on the deck, and explored nearby New Brunswick, Canada, including Campobello. The cottage was clean, well equipped, and in an ideal location for quiet and solitude and exploring Downeast Maine. Trisha was the perfect host--full of great information, friendly, and an excellent gardener. We look forward to a return visit!

Great Place. The description was right on. Very well equipped and comfortable. The owners were very accomadating and went the extra mile to make sure their guests were well taken care of. We give this one a 10 out of 10
Everything was wonderful! The place was great, the people were great, all around a good adventure

Jim and I arrived at Winkle II on Saturday, July 2, 2011. Already we were greeted by Mrs. Fradette and that meant something to us. We had come from Georgia to be here and we felt welcome from the start. We were given some information on the upcoming Fourth of July festivities in Eastport. We were told about the upcoming fireworks in the surrounding communities. We even had a list of nearby restaurants. Every night we slept like babies being able to breath some much needed Maine ocean air. The sun made its arrival every morning. I do believe that Mrs. Fradette must have made this possible for us. She is such a wonderful hostess. We spoke every day which made us feel very welcome in this wonderful home away from home. We were able tour Eastport and enjoy the Fourth of July festivities. Campobello was a nice ride, not too far away. We visited Shackford Head State Park as well as Boyden Lake in Perry. Reversing Falls in Pembrook was not too far away. We made it to Katie's Chocolates in Robinston. However, with all there was to see and do, we were always ready to come back home to a restful evening. We would surely make a return trip to this nice restful place again. Jim and Aline Newnan, Georgia

This place was an absolutely lovely place to spend a week. The house is charming, spacious, tastefully decorated, well-stocked, and Tricia made us feel completely at home. (Even leaving some fresh veggies on our steps one afternoon!)
For us, it was the perfect location- It was a manageable drive to Acadia and Lubec, but there was enough to do closer to home that we stayed entertained. The lovely porch was home base for us, and I imagine it would be for you, too!
If you're looking for a relaxing, peaceful place where you can take in beautiful ocean views, go for leisurely walks, and grill every night, I'd look no further than Winkle Cottage. Nothing but the highest of praise for Tricia, Perry, and the cottage- We're already planning our return trip!
Washington State - 2011.
We stayed at Winkle II for one week in June 2011. After a long day of birding in all kinds of weather it was certainly a pleasure to return to "our home away from home" every night. We met new friends in Eastport who pointed us in the direction of charming art galleries, whimsical wood carvers, and delicious food (the lobster rolls were especially yummy!). We visited Raye's Mustard (we loved it!), we drove to Lubec to try Monica's Chocolate (we loved it!!), and the highlight of our trip was our pelagic boat trip out of Cutler to Machias Seal Island. What an excellent way to spend the day! We were lucky enough to have an up close and personal experience with hundreds of Atlantic puffins twice. Captain Andy is great and his charter service is first rate. We experienced everything Maine has to offer except a moose sighting. Thank you for making this special place available to visitors and we hope to return some day.

Owners Pat and Bob have gone out of their way to ensure the comfort and feeling of a home away from home atmosphere with this cottage. (home baked cookies were a plus). From the decorations, views, cleanliness and personal attention to detail, shows how much pride these two people take in sharing their cottage with others. As a single renter, I always felt safe and comfortable alone at the cottage. The views were spectacular, which can't be truly captured on any pictures posted. Cottage has all the necessary supplies needed. They have provided an unbelievable amount of material for everything possible to do while staying and even provided personal reviews of some of the area attractions. Thanks so much for a memorable vacation. See you next year.

It was our first trip to Maine and we had a great time.
The cottage is very comfortable and very clean. Everything is provided, even the pot for the lobster and the barbecue.
The view is so nice, we were able to take our breakfast on the terasse.
There are a lot of nice places to visit all around. We went to Calais, Lubec, Campobello Island, and wildlife reserve.
Our tennagers enjoyed it a lot and didn't want to live.
The owners are great, we spent very nice time with them.
We will come back for sure.

This property is as good, or better, than it is represented in the description. My husband and I had the most relaxing week at this cottage. Some days we drove to attractions like Acadia. Others we simply lounged around and read.
We have had bad experiences in the past with online vacation rentals and were reluctant to take another chance. The owners put our fears to rest with their prompt communication and reliable follow through. The unit was very clean and everything was available for convenience and comfort.
So glad we made the trip. It was exactly what we needed and were expecting from the description. We will be smiling from our memories of this trip for a long time.
