Classic Harbor Cottage

All are welcome at this classic, idyllic (circa 1900), impeccably clean cottage, on the eastern shore of Casco Bay, an hour travel NE of Portland, and from this front deck, you can throw a stone into the water, walk down the steps to swim, launch a kayak, enjoy whatever. You will gently wake up to the melodious sounds of ospreys, eagles, seagulls, and the lobsterboats starting their day. When you have your 'cup of coffee', you can go out on the deck to smell the salt air, feel the tranquility, and enjoy what Maine 'really is'. This is one of the few places on the Maine Coast where not much has changed in over a hundred years. You can buy freshly caught lobsters directly from fishemen, and, in the transaction, be able to appreciate the 'real Maine'. There is a picnic table for your use on the mowed grass shore, where you can fully enjoy the ambience of the 'Rocky Coast of Maine', while listening to the gentle 'lapping' of the waves. At low tide, there is finding beach glass, various marine life, and snorkeling. There are also fishing opportunities, from the shore, for those who like to catch mackerel, flounder, striped bass, and other fish. With parental supervision, this shorefront is an excellent learning opportunity for children.

Within a five minute walk, for those who prefer not to drive, is the "Water's Edge Restaurant". A five minute drive puts you at the "Sebasco Harbor Resort", where you can enjoy dining in their various rooms, an 18 hole golf course, kayak rental, tennis, sailing trips, deep sea fishing, waterfront spa, and more. A 10 minute drive will take you to Popham Beach State Park, (for which you have a free pass), Fort Popham, Fort Baldwin. At Popham, is Spinney's Restaurant, which has a good menu, and an excellent view. Small Point Beach is 'just down the road', but you will have to pay an entrance fee.
In Bath is the Maine Maritime Museum, which is well worth visiting, especially for those who appreciate the maritime history of the area. There are also several restaurants, antique and local craft stores.
A bit farther, but within an hour's drive, are LL Bean (Freeport), the 'Old Port' (Portland), Portland Head Light (South Portland), Boothbay Harbor, the Farnsworth Museum (Rockland), the Maine State Music Theatre (Bowdoin College, Brunswick), and many other local attractions.
