Description of the Pitkin vacation home rental

This 3 BR cabin in Pitkin sits just 1/2 mile from the National Forest "on the mountain" and is less than 2 miles from the Pitkin town center, yet is secluded and private. The large deck offers a 180+ degree view of the Continental Divide and is enjoyable throughout the year. It has been remodeled, with a completely new kitchen and bath on the main level. There are lots of windows with seating and plenty of sunshine and it is comfortable all of the year. In the winter the house is accessible by snowmobile, snowshoeing or skiing only (a short 1.3 mile trip on snowmobile-packed roads). The house has a full bathroom and is stocked with linens and towels (there is no housekeeping). It is an easy drive in the summer and a very pleasant snowmobile ride or ski in winter into the house. Ask about a shuttle for your gear in and out at the beginning and end of your winter stay if you are not using snowmobiles to access the cabin. Pets may be allowed upon approval and with an additional pet deposit.

Area Description

Pitkin is an easy 30 mile drive from the town of Gunnison and is 40 miles from Monarch Pass and 60 miles from Crested Butte. The recreational opportunities are numerous (Hiking, fishing, mountain biking, ATV & dirtbiking trails, jeeping, historic mining towns, hunting, skiing, snowshoeing and snowmobiling). Fossil Ridge Wilderness Area trailheads are less than 15 miles away and the Gunnison National Forest and BLM Public lands surround the townsite of Pitkin. Quartz Creek and its tributaries run through the valley and is easily accessible to the public for fishing. There are miles of forest roads to drive or ride while exploring the area, with Cumberland Pass (to Tincup) and the Alpine Tunnel being 2-wheel-drive accessible. Pitkin has a gas station, restaurant, museum and church as well as many small businesses (mostly open summer only). Waunita Hot Springs is an easy 2-wheel dirt-road drive, bike ride or ski and is reasonably priced for soaking (call them for info). Pitkin is especially popular for winter recreationists with its many snowmobile-packed roads and there is terrific snowmobile-supported backcountry skiing. You can ski, snowshoe or snowmobile right from the cabin and more often than not, you won't see anyone else!

Owner Supplied Testimonials
We thoroughly enjoyed our week in Santiago - we sat on the deck and watched the birds and wildlife and basked in the sun! What a great property - so many trees and the wildflowers were gorgeous. It's hard to believe your place is so close to Pitkin because it was quiet and we felt like we were getting away. Thanks for sharing this special place!

You have a really great place and terrific views, especially in the fall! My wife took the kids to see the Alpine Tunnel and we rode our bikes just about everywhere. The hunting in the National Forest was good this season and it was so easy to get there from the cabin! We'll be back next summer to try the fishing - we hear it's great! Thanks.
