Description of the Pitkin vacation home rental
This 3 BR cabin in Pitkin sits just 1/2 mile from the National Forest "on the mountain" and is less than 2 miles from the Pitkin town center, yet it is secluded and private. The large deck offers a 180+ degree view of the Continental Divide and is enjoyable throughout the year. There are big, sunny windows with seating and it is warm and comfortable all of the year. In the winter the house is accessible by snowmobile, snowshoeing or skiing ONLY (an easy 1.3 mile trip on snowmobile-packed roads). The house has a full bathroom and is stocked with linens and towels (no housekeeping). It is an easy drive in the summer and a short, pleasant snowmobile ride or ski in winter into the house. Ask about a snowmobile shuttle for your gear in and out at the beginning and end of your winter stay if you are not using your own snowmobiles to access the cabin. Pets may be allowed upon approval and with an additional pet deposit.
Pitkin is an easy 30 mile drive from the town of Gunnison and is 40 miles from Monarch Pass and 60 miles from Crested Butte. This area is special - there is hiking, fishing, mountain biking, ATV & dirtbiking trails, jeeping, historic mining towns, hunting, XC & backcountry skiing, snowshoeing and snowmobiling and hardly anyone else around! There is AWESOME snowmobile-supported backcountry skiing or ski right from the cabin. Fossil Ridge Wilderness Area trailheads are less than 15 miles away and Pitkin is tucked away in a little valley surrounded by Public Lands! Quartz Creek and its tributaries run through the valley and is easily accessible to the public for fishing. There are miles of forest roads to drive or ride or ski while exploring the area, with Cumberland Pass (to Tincup) and the Alpine Tunnel being 2-wheel-drive accessible in the summer. Waunita Hot Springs is an easy trip, suitable for snowmobile or ski, or in summer by passenger car, bicycle or ATV and is reasonably priced for soaking (call them for info). Wintertime and summertime users have literally hundreds of miles of trails to explore right from the cabin. You can ski, snowshoe or snowmobile right from the cabin and more often than not, you won't see anyone else!
