Description of the Pitkin vacation home rental
This 3 BR cabin in Pitkin sits just 1/2 mile from the National Forest "on the mountain" and is less than 2 miles from the Pitkin town center, yet it is secluded and private. The large deck offers a 180+ degree view of the Continental Divide and is enjoyable throughout the year. There are big, sunny windows with seating and it is warm and comfortable all of the year. There is now cell phone sevice available throughout the Pitkin area. Please bring your cell phone or GoPhone, as there is no land line at the cabin. In the winter the house is accessible by snowmobile, snowshoeing or skiing ONLY (an easy 1.3 mile trip on snowmobile-packed roads). The house has a full bathroom and is stocked with linens and towels (no housekeeping). It is a short drive in the summer (AWD or 4WD recommended) and a short, pleasant snowmobile ride or ski in winter into the house. Ask about a snowmobile shuttle for your gear in and out at the beginning and end of your winter stay if you are not using your own snowmobiles to access the cabin. Pets may be allowed upon approval and with an additional pet deposit. We will be booking Saturday - Saturday rentals for the summer of 2012 (July and August). All other rentals are a 4 night minimum.
Area Information
Pitkin is an easy 30 mile drive from the town of Gunnison and is 40 miles from Monarch Pass and 60 miles from Crested Butte. This area is special - there is hiking, fishing, mountain biking, ATV & dirtbiking trails, jeeping, historic mining towns, hunting, XC & backcountry skiing, snowshoeing and snowmobiling and hardly anyone else around! There is AWESOME snowmobile-supported backcountry skiing or ski right from the cabin. Fossil Ridge Wilderness Area trailheads are less than 15 miles away and Pitkin is tucked away in a little valley surrounded by Public Lands! Quartz Creek and its tributaries run through the valley and is easily accessible to the public for fishing. There are miles of forest roads to drive or ride or ski while exploring the area, with Cumberland Pass (to Tincup) and the Alpine Tunnel being 2-wheel-drive accessible in the summer. Waunita Hot Springs is an easy trip, suitable for snowmobile or ski, or in summer by passenger car, bicycle or ATV and is reasonably priced for soaking (call them for info). Wintertime and summertime users have literally hundreds of miles of trails to explore right from the cabin. You can ski, snowshoe or snowmobile right from the cabin and more often than not, you won't see anyone else!

Quiet & secluded

House was cozy, views were wonderful. Very quiet & peaceful. The 3rd bedroom is in the basement, we all slept on upper two floors. Kitchen was fully equipped & had everything one would need. Be careful flatlanders, things cook very differently at high altitudes. We had a great time! Can access Pitkin from house on ATVs. You must conserve water as house is on a cistern-not a big deal as all mountain homes function on this water supply. It's a great lesson in conservation for kids (& adults). We hope to return next year!

Nice place

Great base of operations for an ATV tour throughout Taylor Park and the Pitkin area. Warm home with plenty of room and all the necessities. A nice place to come back to after a long day of riding. With the aspens turning in September each day was beautiful. Slept four guys fine.

Great ATV Adventure

We spent a week at the cabin for our annual ATV adventure into the mountains. The cabin was a perfect location for riding our ATVs into the national forest. We had two full days of riding close to the cabin. We made a day trip to the small mountain towns of St. Elmo and Tincup using the roads and trials leaving Pitkin. The riding was fantastic. The cabin had all of the necessary items to make out stay very comfortable and enjoyable. I would recommend this area and this cabin to anyone looking for some fun and enjoyable ATV riding in some of the most beautiful country.

ATV Trip

This was the perfect place to stay while in Pitkin Colorado. The accommodations where all-some, we normally haul all our gear for tent camping. This year we decided to rent a place to stay instead of camping, i think we are spoiled after this trip and it will be renting for now on. I would recommend this rental to anyone it is a beautiful place to stay.

Beautiful

We had a great time...used the house as a base for three weeks of archery elk hunting. We had conveneient access to everything we needed, and the house gave us comfort, elbow room and great views.

Guestbook

We thoroughly enjoyed our week in Santiago - we sat on the deck and watched the birds and wildlife and basked in the sun! What a great property - so many trees and the wildflowers were gorgeous. It's hard to believe your place is so close to Pitkin because it was quiet and we felt like we were getting away. Thanks for sharing this special place!

You have a really great place and terrific views, especially in the fall! My wife took the kids to see the Alpine Tunnel and we rode our bikes just about everywhere. The hunting in the National Forest was good this season and it was so easy to get there from the cabin! We'll be back next summer to try the fishing - we hear it's great! Thanks.
