Caring Hosts in a small beach town

Playas was part of my 6 week solo trip as a senior. Roger and Carmen provided a safe and welcoming place for me to celebrate my 7Oth B-day. The room was clean and included a private bath,small refrigerator and an alcove kitchen for fixing simple meals .TV and books were available in the comfortable courtyard sitting area. The location was great for walking along the malecon to the new Mall with oceanview seating for the food court! Roger was very considerate and picked me up at the bus terminal. He also gave me a ride to a local restaurant I would have never found on my own. I enjoyed a gourmet B-Day lunch of creamy risotto and coconut shrimp for under $10! Later that evening Roger and Carmen invited me upstairs to their home for birthday cake and tea. So sweet! When I needed a taxi for the trip`from Playas to Salinas once again Roger willingly made these arrangements for me. During my stay I felt well cared for on a daily basis.

Off the Beaten Path Experience

This accommodation suited our tastes for an 'authentic' and 'off the beaten path' experience of Ecuador. The apartment was clean and equipped with fridge and coffee maker for easy breakfast-time in the garden. Location is easy access to shops, markets and panoramic beach. The proprietor was friendly, highly informative and able to share a personal experience of Ecuador and recommend other suitable places to visit. We stayed one week but would have gladly stayed a month if we had the vacation time! We will definitely return. If you are seeking an authentic Ecuadorian experience, this is a perfect place to learn, see, listen, and absorb Ecuador.

Restful, Comfortable Accommodations

We stayed with Roger and Carmen in the Housekeeping Suite for one week. It is one room divided by an accordion-folding partition separating the bedroom from the kitchenette/dining/sitting area, and is approximately 425 square feet. The accommodations were clean and comfortable. Every three days, we received fresh linens and towels, the bathroom was cleaned, the floors were swept, and trash removed. The unit has a small refrigerator, two-burner electric hot plate, blender, coffee maker, pots and pans, cooking and eating utensils, and dishes; five gallons of bottled water is provided. We found the counter space to be limited for cooking meals, and the sink was small and has cold water only. The queen-sized bed was extremely comfortable. There was mosquito netting above, but it was not needed. The unit has limited ventilation and does not have air conditioning, but there is a ceiling fan above the bed and dining area. The bathroom is beautiful. It is fully tiled with modern fixtures and it has an excellent hot water shower-head. The walls and ceiling have minimal noise insulation. There is a common patio area with comfortable chairs and a television with cable TV. The best thing about Casa Playagringo is Roger and Carmen. They couldn't have been more accommodating. They sent a driver to the Guayaquil Airport who met us outside the baggage area and drove us back to Playas. We were given a map and orientation to the area, as well as advise on places to shop and eat, as well as safety. Roger checked in with us regularly, but not in an intrusive way. I think that we could be good friends. Playas is a quiet fishing village with a beautiful, wide beach. There is a vibrant mercado from where you can buy fresh fruits and vegetables, and Super Tia for everything else. We enjoyed going to the central plaza to watch the iguanas come out of the trees to feed. Other than the beach, there is little to do there. We had a very restful week there. Compared to Quito and Cuenca, we found the city to be run-down and dirty.

Great place in Playas

We stayed week with Roger and Carmine in the large suite. Roger was most helpful and accommodating, orienting us to the highlights of Playas and assisting us in anyway he could. The courtyard is a very homey place to relax with gardens around. Our suite was very comfortable and the house is within a short walking distance to stores, restaurants and the beach is only a block away. We had a great time and would not hesitate to stay there again.

Best Place to Stay in Playas!

This was our second trip to Playas and we again stayed with Roger and Carmen. It was like coming home to old friends! You are two blocks from a beautiful beach and several good restaurants. You can walk everywhere. It is also great to meet the other international guests, who frequently lounge in the covered patio. We have made good friends and had many hours of interesting conversation. If you want to do your own thing and not be bothered, that works too. This is definitely the best place to stay in Playas!

We had a beautiful time . Carman and Roger were very helpful , They arranged transportaion to and from the airport . We were only blocks from the beach . It was a peaceful eco friendly trip ...I plan on returning soon

We just spent the past 7 days with Roger and Carmen in their vacation home. To mention just a few of the great positives about this location...the LOCATION two very short blocks from a beautiful white sand beach that is so wide you will be left to enjoy the beauty of the ocean with few interruptions. Their accommodations are affordable, excellently maintained with large fluffy towels for both the bath and beach, firm mattress, hot water shower and a kitchenette for your use. We spent many an evening just sitting on the patio watching the sun set over Carmen's rose garden. You will be left alone if that is your choice but they will also spend time visiting with you. We totally enjoyed our vacation from our vacation and would recommend Playagringo if you are visiting General Villamil Playas. Staying with Roger and Carmen is like vacationing with old friends.

My room was cleaned very well, safe and cmfortable.The Patio has a down home feel.For the price I paid (525 USD) my room was worth it. Playas seemed like a very friendly community.The weather is hot in the summer but even then the mornings and evenings are cooler and fantastic.I enjoyed my stay. I would stay somewhere like this again.

When I go on a holiday... I don't like to stay in a sterile hotel room - I wanted to learn and experience the true Ecuador! Roger & Carmen were welcoming and I felt comfortable, safe and relaxed. Their house is full of art and Roger has many interesting facts and stories to tell. BTW.. He makes the best pina coladas and Carmen taught me how to cook chicken with lime. Playas is a great little place where you can walk or ride a bike from the house or just take a two minute walk to the beach to catch a wave! Am I coming back? You Bet!

In the past our vacations consisted of staying at resorts. We decided to try a new experience. Roger and Carmen had what we were looking for. Their hospitality was above and beyond our expectations. Roger and Camen took the time to help us explore Playas. We found our experience to be quite educational. Not only was our stay rewarding, our suite was clean and comfortable including the necessary components. We plan to return after retirement and stay longer. There are four things that my wife and I expect from our accommodation. Clean, Friendly, hot showers and economic. This place ticks all four boxes. We spent the month of December here and it was the perfect venue for the homely stay we were looking for. Roger and Carmen the owners went out of their way to show us around Playas. My wife and I have been traveling for over a year now through Asia and South America and this is the friendliest and by far the cleanest place we have stayed. I guess the biggest compliment i can give is to say "We will be back for a second stay".
