Description of the Port Aransas vacation cottage rental
AFFORDABLE artist's studio/retreat. This cosy cottage is quiet, clean...and just funky enough for relaxing...on island time. Make no mistake, this ain't uptown...it's OLD TOWN, surrounded by shady palms & dense tropical vegetation. Built in the 1930's, the cottage is one of a cluster of cabins, most of which are still inhabited by friendly Port A regulars.
It's up 3 steps to a small, very private screened porch--with hooks for bathing suits & beach towels--and a couple of chairs to throw your stuff; a perfect spot to slip out of your sandy sandals before entering the light and airy living space beyond. Immediately inside the front door and to the right, is a small bathroom with walk-in shower. Straight ahead is a dining table & two high back wooden chairs. In the far left corner is a double bed surrounded by windows. Tucked in the far right corner is a kitchenette equipped with fridge, microwave, toaster oven, blender, electric mixer, two burner hot plate, dishes, cooking utensils, and some condiments. (More amenities listed below). On the walls are original paintings by the artist in residence (who happens to be housesitting in Hawaii until September). We're hoping some creative artists (or art appreciators) will come enjoy this charming cottage while he's gone. Out the backdoor is another small porch, a blue recycling bin...and an enchanting view of the neighbor's art garden. Off-street parking (for one vehicle) to right of cottage plus on-street parking in front. There's a hose around back to wash the sand off your feet. Guests are kindly asked to smoke on the back porch or screened porch where chairs & ashtrays are provided.
Cottage #16 is located on Brundrett, a quiet side street in old town Port Aransas. Directly across the street is Pelican's Landing--a delightful rabbit warren of gift shops, boutiques, eateries, and art galleries. Nestled in the center of Pelican's Landing is a magical music stage under the stars. You can hear live music floating on the breeze most nights throughout the summer. The closest cross street is Alister, Port A's "main street." From the cottage it's a 1 minute walk across Alister to the Port Aransas Historical Society Museum and the Port A Computer Center...both free. Up and down Alister are eateries, surf & souvenir stores, coffee shops (with WI-FI), and art galleries. For a nominal fee lodgers can rent one or two 18 speed bikes (with baskets); a one speed beach cruiser bike; a sit-on-top kayak (Yak board) & paddle; beach chairs, towels and various flotation devices--like boogie boards, blow up rafts, rings & beach balls for fun on the beach.

Old Town Port Aransas is one of the last places on the Texas coast which still has a "lost in the 70's, fishing village" feel to it. It's mostly unfranchised and the natives are friendly. Unbeatable bird watching, fishing, swimming & surfing. Fast food to five star restaurants. Drive and park on the beach (with purchase of $12 yearly permit)...and lots and lots of sky and ocean.

- Required Stay: 2 night minimum
- Lodging Tax: 13%
- Deposits: The cottage is my only rental. A deposit is required to hold reservations, the remainder to be paid at check-in. Deposit is 100% refundable if there is a family emergency or hurricane (or other natural disaster). 90% of deposit is refundable if I'm given sufficient notice and am able to rebook the cottage (at the same rate). There is a $25 non-refundable pet deposit.
- Other Fees: Bike Rental - One speed $10.00, 18 speed $15.00 (for 2 days). Bike includes lock, basket & helmet.
Sit-On-Top-Kayak - $30.00 for 2 days. Kayak includes paddle & life preserver. (Add $10 if you need delivery & pick up).
Boogie Boards, Air Rafts or Rings, Beach Towels & Chairs, Roll Up Grass Mats, Coolers - $2.00 (each) per visit.
