Description of the Portage Lake vacation home rental
Amenities include: fireplaces in and out, stainless steel appliances, washer and dryer, all necessary kitchen utensils and small appliances, central vacuum, granite counter tops, cable, dvd player, bbq grill with propane, firewood, canoe, two kayaks, dock. We also offer two blow up queen size air mattresses for additional sleeping arrangements. There is room inside the house as well as a tent and unheated sleeping area above the garage. The number of possible guests listed above includes these additional mattresses. Summer and winter rentals available. Hunting, fishing and snowmobiling are a big draw to the area. Normally, snowmobiling time is from January through March. There are a number of snowmobile and ATV trails nearby. A hunting guide is close and contact can be set up for you. We ask that the camp be returned, as much as possible, to the condition it is found. Cleaning supplies are provided. We ask that the flowers and vegetables be watered if necessary. It is "recreational" flower watering. We ask that there be no smoking within the house. We take pride in not bothering our guests during the visit. It is your time. We do, however, welcome any contact that may become necessary.

Amazing Property with Gorgeous Views

Our family had a fabulous time at this property on Portage Lake. The home was wonderful and the grounds were beautiful. To call it a "Camp" does not do it justice as it truly feels like a home away from home with every amenity you can think of. We were able to enjoy beautiful sunrises and sunsets on the lake each day and welcomed the serenity and peacefulness of the location. If you are looking for a beautiful place to sit back and relax or want to take advantage of all the recreational possibilities available on/in the Lake while staying in a well appointed home then this is the place for you!

Our favorite getaway!

Having revisited the cabin for our second year, I can see why my dad loved coming here year after year to hunt grouse. Woth his recent passing this particular stay for us was very therapeutic, comforting and memorizing as always. This cabin is by far our favorite home away from home. Staying at this cabin is sure to relax and amaze you with it's wide range of wildlife and breathtaking view of nature. Not to mention the superb amenities the cabin provides and two of the kindest hosts you can ever hope to rent from. On our recent vacation we did everything from feeding ducks and cooking s'mores to chasing a moose down a northern woods road. The people in Portage are in my opinion, some of the finest people you'll meet anywhere. Which makes it all the more lovelier to visit and Linda and Dennis truly provide the perfect getaway in the most beautiful cabin on the lake. We will be booking for next year very soon. ;-) Thank you for a wonderful and meaningful experience as we dedicated this vacation to our dad and husband. The Maxwell Family

Great pretty much says it all; we did not want to leave. The camp, if that is what you want to call it, as it had all the amenities you would need. It was like a home away from home. This will definitely be a return vacation spot. I was truly sad this vacation had come to an end. Many thanks to Dennis and Linda for a wonderful experience.

To say that are time her was perfect would be a a understatment. This camp was amazing it was the perfect setting for our wedding and also for our families to meet. Would recommend this camp to anyone( it was pretty much my dream home) and dennis and linda were the best. Our stay at the camp was BEAUTIFUL, to say the least. The house has a creative design inside and out. We were treated excellently- our renters were available, thoughtful and easy to communicate with. Rain or shine, we enjoyed staying at the camp. Our wedding ceremony was so sincere and beautiful, thanks to the perfect location and great relationship Dennis and Linda. OMG..The camp was beautiful. We could not have asked for a more perfect location for a wedding. My son and the wedding party flew in from Colorado and were extremely happy with everything. The rental agent was extemely nice and always called if he had a question. I would recommend this camp any time someone wants a camp on the lake. We had a beautiful wedding.

This is an amazing house to rent! Our dream rental, actually. We have always wanted a house on the lake, with a room, for all the snowmobiling gear. And we found those qualities and many more in this house! Two bathrooms, and a washer and dryer on premises, made this house a home away from home!

Beautiful lakeside getaway

If you are looking for an excellently appointed home/camp right on the water for a getaway that you will remember for a long time to come, this is it. Dennis and Linda have created a Shangri-La like camp with all the extras thrown in. This is not your typical 100 year old musty camp with clogged sewer lines! This is a top notch, well appointed and very new appearing home in an extraordinary setting. Each night we watched the sun set just over the hill from us and listened to the loons' mournful cries. We have rented 3 other camps at Portage and have found nothing that compares to this great camp. We will be back again with our family next time to enjoy this fantastic place. Thanks, Dennis and Linda for a great experience!

Rental for Family vacation

We rented the camp on Portage Lake from Dennis and Linda as we love the lake and have friends and family that live their year round. This rental is a beautiful place on the lake and includes several amenities, ie. wireless/satelite service, canoe, kayaks, washer and dryer and dishwasher push more. The home is modern and clean which complements your vacation in itself. We took advantage of golfing at the Portage Golf course and traveled the ATV trails throughout our week. There is an awesome outdoor patio/fireplace area which we used every evening to reminice on old times and roast marshmellows for samores. It was a wonderful vacation and ontop of all we did, we had a beautiful camp to use as well.

"The Camp" was used last week to host a family Wedding - the setting is perfect, surroundings Beautiful, and there was ample space outside to accomodate the 40+ guests! There wasn't anything that we didn't like from the outside of the house. The large nice lawn leading to the breathtaking view of the lake to the beautiful flower pots surrouding the deck area. We especially enjoyed the spacious patio area and a charming outdoor fireplace. From the inside of the house, everything on the lower level is well planned. However, the upper level bathroom is so small and odd. The shower area is so narrow even a small framed person would not fit in it. Last but not least, please revise one of the house rules where renter must wash all towels and linens before departuring---timewise, this rule isn't feasible to do so. Overall, we loved every minute of our time spent at the lake house. If 15 hours drive isn't an issue we would love to come back every summer. Best regards,

I attended my 50th high school reunion, the class of 1960 from Presque Isle High School. My parents had a summer home at Portage Lake when I was a child and we decided this would be a wonderful trip down memory lane. It was a great experience. One of our daughters and grandsons joined us on this vacation. Our grandson spent many hours fishing, kayaking and canoeing with Grandpa. Stayed at the camp January 8th through the 12th. Place has all the creature comforts of home and then some! The house is magnificent...gorgeous views of the lake, granite countertops, high end appliances, awesome fireplace, and 2 car garage to store the sleds. Trail access is right out the backyard onto the lake. Dennis and Linda definitely maintain this property to high standards and it shows. I am already thinking of booking another stay! A Hidden Gem

Simply put, this piece of property is the shining star of vacation rentals in northern Maine and Linda and Dennis should write a book on how to manage and host a rental. I have stayed at quite a few places in NH and Maine and this “camp” is my new favorite. Before I even left the driveway on my 8 hour drive home, I was thinking of when I could get back. I would go as far to say, if you are looking to rent a lakefront home in NH or Maine drive by all the rest and stay at this place. It’s that good. Mark

We had a great time in spite of what must be one of the wettest summers on record for northern Maine. The lake is beautiful and the house is very well appointed. Dave and Linda make sure the house is well stocked with supplies and they provide some very helpful instructions on where to buy groceries and dine out. Our vacation highlight was an early morning canoe trip where we sighted a large bull moose grazing in the out flow on the northwest corner of the lake. Our nephews played horseshoes and badminton in the large backyard. We caught perch and chub in the lake, and we found native brook trout in the Beaver Brook stream located off the four corners logging road just south of town. Give this place a try if you are looking for a comfortable and relaxing vacation.

One word WOW!!!! This camp is amazing. My family and I stayed there for six days and I will tell you that if you want to have a great vacation in Portage Maine I recommend you to call Dennis and Linda and book this camp. This camp has everything you need. The camp has an amazing fire pit outdoors and a beautiful lake with nice views in the morning and nights. And if you like fishing make sure you bring your poles. The camp was beautiful! It had everything that we needed. It was just like being at home. You wouldn't believe the amount of deer that you see when you're up there. We would love to stay there again. I've yet to find any other camp that is that nice for that price. We brought our girls 12 and 13 up there snowmobiling for the week and they loved it. We saw hundreds of deer, a fox, we caught a couple of nice salmon, and we watched a bald eagle fly around the lake looking for fish. We had an amazing week and would love to stay there again next year, if the week we want is available.

This is the second year we have stayed at this "camp" in Portage. It is unbelieveable - all the comforts of home and more without being at home. The camp is beautiful, convenient and comfortable. After a day of sledding, we could come back to an evening in front of the fireplace, a nice dinner, and cable tv or a movie. The snowmobile trail is literally right in the backyard. The area is beautiful. We will definitely continue to return every year. Thank you!

6 Snowmobilers love Portage Lake Camp

What a week we spent at this great place. It was completely equipped with everything you would need. The trail access was right from the front yard. We have been traveling to Portage for many years to snowmobile on the many, many miles of groomed trails. This was probably one of the most relaxing trips we have had. After a day of riding we would get back, clean up, have dinner and kick back for an evening of relaxing by the fireplace with a good movie or book whichever we would choose. There were DVD's and books on the shelves to choose. With the laundry room we could keep our snowmobile gear ready to go. Will be returning next year if all goes well.

A day at" MOOSE CAMP "

My wife and I searched the Web looking for a camp to rent for a moose hunt in zone 3 . We came across Dennis and Linda's add and immediatly knew "This was the ONE" When we arrived , and made that first step into this cottage ,it was a breath-taking experiance . The pictures don't do this place it's due justice . From our first contact with Dennis , to our chats after we left , We feel like we've known each other forever . We have spent many a year in portage lake bird hunting and I can honestly say this was the most enjoyable, and relaxing camp we have ever rented. Everything we needed was available plus things we didn't even think about. Dennis and Linda are great hosts and know how to get guests to come back and that is key. I am already booking for next year and hopefully to make this a tradition in the years to come. After staying there, to me, there is not a better place.

Deffinately worth the trip! We stayed at this property for two weeks as our honeymoon and we're already trying to figure out when we can go back! The peace and quiet, the wildlife and the beautiful scenery was exactly what we were looking for!! Thank you to everyone who made us feel at home!

A Truly Wonderful Destination

Our vacation here was divine. The "camp" is a showplace and the lot is spectacular. Our family loved the lake, especially the views and loons. Many special moments were spent in front of the outdoor fireplace enjoying the down time in a magical setting. Dennis and Linda made sure we felt at "home" and welcome and that put us at ease immediately. Don't pass up this one!

"Camp" Wonderful

This "camp" is best described as Smart Casual! No detail has been overlooked. After 35 years of owning our own cottage (no heat or hot water and an outhouse) this Portage Lake property is a camp in name only. To us it was home for a week of r and r - great canoeing, spectacular views and the call of the loons. Dennis and Linda are fantastic landlords/hosts. We are booked for a return visit.
