The State land is constitutionally protected from any kind of development- thus "forever wild." Raquette Lake, with 99 miles of shoreline, is the largest natural lake in the Adirondacks. 80% of the shoreline is owned by the State so you won't see many camps or people- just pristine shoreline, woods and wildlife.
Visit the Natural History Museum in Tupper Lake, the Wild Center! Lake Placid is just 75 miles north- a nice day trip. Other day trip possibilities include Lake George, Inlet and Old Forge with activity, shopping and dining options galore!
People come to this part of the Adirondacks to enjoy the outdoor recreational opportunities, the history and the solitude. It's quiet. It's not commercial. It's a different world.

We really enjoyed our stay at The Loft. The kitchen was fully equipped and there was plenty of wood provided for the fireplace. We brought our own linens which was no problem. We didn't have the opportunity to enjoy a sauna as we spent our time ice fishing and snowmobiling. Not a four star hotel, but nice hosts and excellent location to enjoy all that Raquette Lake winters have to offer.

We went for the sauna and enjoyed that as well as the fireplace in the Loft. Not much to do nearby because it was mud season.

The sky is so starry! The quiet is deafening. It takes me a day to acclimate to the serenity I only find here in Raquette Lake.
