Area Description

Real de Catorce is located in the Sierra Catorce in the Altiplano Zone at an altitude of 9000 feet. Here in the southern extent of the Chihuahuan desert an long tunnel leads to the remains of an 18th century silver mining goast town. Activities include tours on horseback to the mountains and to the ruins of old haciendas. Religious tourists come to worship the patron saint, San Francisco de Asis (Saint Francis of Assisi), and nearby is a ceremonial center for the Huicholes indigenous people.
