Rotorua lakeside luxury with beach and boats
|Per night||$190 - $230|
|Per week||$1,200 - $1,400|
Both Living area and upstairs bedroom have floor to ceiling, wall to wall glass- you can watch the sun rise over the lake and hills from your bed, and both open through sliding doors onto a large patio deck with BBQ and outdoor furniture.
Downstairs there are three further bedrooms and the main bathroom (includes a double indoor/outdoor jacuzzi bath with a great lake view) The house has a huge parking area and a big garage/workshop with table tennis, and it is set in a quarter acre fully landscaped garden of trees and lawns to the lake edge, where there is a shared jetty, private sandy beach and big BBQ area. On the beach are a 12 foot sailing catamaran and a 13 foot dinghy with oars and outboard motor for your use. Lifejackets and trout fishing gear are included- Lake Rotoiti is said to hold the biggest trophy trout in NZ (although my best so far was tiny at only 8lbs!)
The house is on the lake edge of the bay, facing north east into the morning sun with extensive lake views from the house and garden. The bay is almost completely surrounded by land- mostly hills, which makes it very warm and sheltered, especially from the prevailing wind.
There is a lot of bird life in the bay, particularly black swans and ducks, and as the middle of the bay is a designated water ski area- lots of boating activity to watch at the weekends.
The ducks, and possibly Winnie the Pukeko will probably call at the house for bread if you call to them. The black swans exprect to be fed their bread on the beach.
Okawa Bay Resort is a 3 minute stroll along the lake edge- an upmarket hotel with bar and restaurant. Double rooms are $350 night. A few minutes walk away is an excellent take-away shop and dairy which has most supplies- their chicken and chips are great.
The lake: is renowned for it's trophy trout and it's highest average catch rate, and average size is 3kg. A professional trout fishing guide is available through the hotel nearby, and they also do trips to the famous hot mineral pools which can only be reached by boat. There are numerous sandy beaches and bays, and jetties for your use at the lakeside hot thermal pools complex, which costs $5 per head and takes an hour to reach with the small boat and motor, if you don't want to take the much quicker organised trip from the hotel. Further details are in our compendium under the coffee table in the lounge.
Please feel free to use the stuff for petanque, fishing, games, DVD and video tapes and table tennis. You will find a gas BBQ on the deck (if you don't want to fire up the big wood burner one lakeside- (which is great for big family gatherings!) You will find a fish smoker in the garage for your catch. First catch your trout, then ring me for smoking instructions.

Excellent rental experience
February 8, 2008
We enjoyed the recently remodeled house features and the stunning location.It is very well equipped. Rental questions were answered fully.It was nice to be a short distance (10-15 minutes)from the center of town for the quiet and lack of sulphur smell. It was perfect for entertaining our NZ relatives. We have no regrets over our choice.
