Description of the Saint George Island vacation home rental

This beautiful bay view house is situated at the end of a cul-de-sac road in the Plantation, a famous, gated community that has preserved the natural beauty of the barrier island. The Plantation has extensive bike trails, a community pool, 3 different tennis courts, and a rock jetty (The Cut) famous for excellent fishing. After a day of outdoor activities, the private screened pool overlooking the marshes will entice you to relax and enjoy the great view and the local bird community. The house also has an enclosed outdoor shower and a fish cleaning sink.

This house has two separate living room areas, each with a cable TV, that can easily accommodate two families. The wrap-around deck and the screened porch provide an unobstructed view. Two large decks facing the bay are furnished with Adirondack chairs and a hammock, a perfect place to relax and enjoy the great view of the bay and marshes. Beds include one king, one queen, and one bunk bed consisting of a lower-queen and single-upper.

Each bedroom is a master suite featuring a private bathroom and a majestic view of the bay and marshes (paradise for bird watchers). Glass doors slide open from each room onto a wrap-around deck with a screened-in porch. There are two separate living areas, a well-equipped kitchen, ceramic tile, and a beautifully landscaped PRIVATE SCREENED POOL overlooking the marshes. Three blocks away (on quiet roads or trails) to the beach, dunes, and tennis courts.

Area Description

St. George Island is perhaps the northernmost significant island in the state of Florida, located in the middle of the Panhandle. It is approximately 23 miles long, and is connected to the mainland by a 4-mile long bridge. The eastern 11 miles of the island contain a wonderful state park. The western 5 miles of the island contain the Plantation, a beautiful, gated, 24-hour guarded private community. The middle of the island is comprised of residential neighborhoods, restaurants, shops, other services and public beaches. The gulf side of the island has 23 continuous miles of sandy beach. The island is pet friendly, except for the state park.

Nearby on the mainland are two small fishing villages (Apalachicola, Eastpoint). Many celebrities, like Jimmy Buffet, have come here for fishing trips. Various boat tours can also be arranged. There are excellent, fun, casual restaurants in the area, many outstanding for seafood. Apalachicola has interesting historical buildings, great small shops, a small theatre hosting occasional plays and concerts, a cemetery dating to the civil war, a wonderful boardwalk (Apalachicola National Estuarine Research Reserve) through Florida “jungle”, and a couple of small nice parks for your dog walks.

About one hour away is Wakulla Springs State Park. The cult film “Creature from the Black Lagoon” and several old Tarzan movies starring Johnny Weissmuller were filmed here. Take the riverboat tour to see alligators, snakes, many species of birds, and some fantastic scenery. Tallahassee, the capital of Florida, is 1 ½ hours away with 2-3 different scenic drives to arrive there. Tallahassee is a wonderful city with much to do.
