Looking for something off the beaten path' Check out the ground level residence of our very unique 1930's home. This unique duplex mansion is large scale and with architure that pays respect to Frank Lloyd Wright and the Arts and Crafts era. Our home was built as, and after many years of recent rebuilding, remains a luxury duplex home. Suite Two, is our home and occupying the upper floors and balconies.

Suite One we offer as a vacation rental which occupies the entire first floor and boasts over 1900 interior square feet plus an expansive 10 x 42 covered veranda with outdoor dining. This comfortable space invokes a feeling of being in a quaint cottage. Simply furnished with an array of finds and simple antiques, our goal was to create a simple and comfortable spot. Sit back, relax and kick your feet up on the coffee table.

The entire space overlooks the lush yard with pool and spa. Feel free to treat yourself and family to backyard Texas BBQ and beat the heat in the pool.

The home offers two dining areas and a nicely equipped kitchen, including all utensils and dishes, everything you need. There are 2 bedrooms each with a TV, private bath, fresh linens, and queen size beds. The master includes a den, large master bath with a walk in shower, spacious closet, ceiling fan, and a washer and dryer. This residence is ideal for up to four people.

Area Description

We are located at the end of a quiet street literally in the backyards of Fort Sam Houston's Historic officers homes. While just over a mile to the infamous Alamo, enjoy a walk around the block at see horses grazing in pasture on Fort Sam's park like grounds. We're in wonderful small neighborhood rich in history and interesting architecture of the early 20th century,We feel we have established an urban oasis in the city.

This great central location just off Broadway is about two miles north of the Alamo. We overlook Fort Sam's historic officer quarters and San Antonio skyline. The location offers easy access to downtown, Fort Sam Houston, museums, Alamo Heights, great shopping and more. Easy highway access in any direction.

Greeted by the friendly owner upon arrival who had the home clean and a welcome basket (fruit/coffee). The home is nicely furnished and the 2 bathrooms are huge. Great location for both downtown and the surrounding area. Loved the pool. Will rent again if we travel to San Antonio in the future.

We cherish our family vacation every year and spent it this year in San Antonio and the Commandant's Quarters. We loved it! Our favorite things about The Commandant's Quarters: Tobie (the mom): The wonderful assortment of items that decorated the place; from vases to lamps to pictures. It was stylishly casual and oh-so-comfortable. I loved that it felt homey and yet so different from home, which is perfect for vacation! Bob (the dad): Big and comfortable; lots of room; we didn’t have to be on top of each other all the time. Also loved the dimmer switches on all the lights; it's the little details that make a place unique and interesting. Kylee (age 7): The pool of course! Also the cable TV with My Life as a Teenage Robot and the games; the big chess set; pretty much everything! Parker (age 4): The pool and the cable TV where we watched El Tigre. Thanks for a lovely place to relax and enjoy our vacation!

My gal pals and I rented this duplex in celebration of one of my friends turning 50. Normally we stay at Bed and Breakfasts or 4 star hotels. We found the house to be charming and comfortable and quite possibly the best place we have ever stayed. The accomodations were great with a king size and a full bed and 2 bathrooms. Having the use of the pool and spa in the wonderfully landscaped backyard made us feel as though we were in a luxury resort. All this for the price of a hotel room for 4. There are plenty of towels and beach towels and most everything you could possibly need. The owners were gracious and most helpful. We had a wonderful stay and would consider renting this duplex in the future.

This was our first experience renting a house. Typically we would stay in a hotel close to the area we wanted to tour. However, we were pleasantly surprised how easy the owners made it. Everything from payment, maps, directions, and COMFORT! They describe the place as "somewhere off the beaten path" but it was far from that.
