Description of the San Miguel de Allende vacation home rental

Surrounded by plant-filled patio and terraces, this three bedroom home has all the amenities needed for a comfortable, wonderfully-located stay in San Miguel. It is less than a block from the Instituto, two blocks from the Centro, and in a neighborhood of friendly neighbors, nice restaurants, grocery shopping, and artisan shops. The top terrace has a panoramic view of San Miguel's vivid sunsets, its foothills and Historic Centro, and its lovely cathedrals and churches.

The house has boveda ceilings and a gas fireplace. A fully-equipped kitchen as well as a bedroom open up to a patio with a fountain. Tables and chairs for outdoor dining are available on the patio and two large terraces. Both bathrooms have a shower and a Jacuzzi tub. There is cable TV and an Internet connection. One bedroom and bath are located upstairs, off the first terrace, providing added privacy.

A housekeeper comes in twice a week. There is a washer and dryer in the garage. Pets, other than cats, are permitted. (Sorry, the owners are allergic to cats.) This is a non-smoking house.

Area Description

Picturesque, charming San Miguel de Allende is a UNESCO World Heritage site. According to several travel magazines, it is one of the ten most-visited cities in the world.

San Miguel is in the highlands of central Mexico, about 100 miles north of Mexico City, and enjoys a mild climate with cool evenings. Founded in the Sixteenth Century as a silver mining city, it retains its Mexican baroque architechure, cobblestone streets, and many of the cultural traditions of its colonial past. No traffic lights, neon lights, or billboards can be found here.

Spearheaded by the Instituto de Allende in the 1950's, San Miguel became a center for arts, handicraft, language and cooking schools,and cultural activities. Its central plaza is alive with music, dancing, and people watching. People stroll, eat in the many fine restaurants or snack stands, and greet one another. There are nearby hot spring spas and botanical gardens. San Miguel's reputation is that, here, it is impossible to become bored. Many US and Canadian citizens came to visit and stayed on, providing the city with its its bi-cultural atmosphere.
