Description of the Sandy Point vacation home rental
Accommodations: House, 4 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2 Baths (Sleeps 10-12) 2400 Square Feet
It was initially built in 1932 as a fishing cottage and was fully renovated in 2008. The Lodge is a single-story house with an open floor plan that includes beautiful panoramic views of the water. Open layout is also wheel chair friendly. Newly added 12 x 24 waterfront deck with handicap ramp.
The house easily sleeps 10-12 with 4 bedrooms and sleeper sofa, 2 full bathrooms, central air and heat, cable TV, a fully equipped kitchen, “Rivah” room with a gorgeous waterfront view, washer-dryer, and a large waterside porch.
Bring your boat and jet skis. There is a pier with 2 boat slips (3.5 – 4 ft MLW) at the property for your use and enjoyment. There is also great fishing and crabbing from the pier. Sandy Point Marina with boat launching facilities and gasoline is located within one mile of the property.
In addition to Summer water and outdoor activities, don’t miss Fall rockfish and hunting seasons.
Bikes, Single and Double Kayaks are available.

Area Information
Make a day trip to Kings Dominion or Busch Gardens and Historical Williamsburg only an 1½ hour away, rent a charter boat and enjoy fishing the Chesapeake Bay, Check out the birth place of George Washington and historical museums or visit Fredericksburg and the historic battlefields, Eat waterside at local restaurants. Go play a round of golf at nearby Golf Courses. Try local Winery tours. Antique shopping is a fun way to spend a morning or afternoon. Second time as good as the first!

Just finished up our second season visiting Shannon Point and we loved it just as much as the first. Bill is the perfect host and the house has everything you need to make your stay comfortable. We cought lots of fish from the dock and just spent the week relaxing. My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our visit and wouldn't hesitate to go back for the third year or reccomend staying there to anyone.

My family and I decided to visit the area for a week through the 4th of July. The property was very quaint with a very ¨lodge¨ feel to it, the interior decorations were cute and well done. The back yard area was great with fire pit for s´mores! Make sure to grab some citronella candles to keep the bugs away while enjoying them. Also just make sure to check where you step through the backyard because there are quite a number of ducks and geese that make their way out of the river and over the grass in the backyard... especially if you have kids. The river was fantastic and we went up to the local sporting goods store and picked up a bunch of things to go crabbing. (Bill provides some bait and a couple traps which was great, but I decided to go with the ones that you have to pull up to close them ,which kept my son occupied for hours lol... Bill also supplied us each bicycles, a couple of kayaks and canoes. He also is quick to recommend anywhere local for anything you might need. He always called us right back if there was anything we needed which was great. The whole experience was a memorable one and we loved being there. I wouldn´t hesitate to head back either. Thanks!

A Retreat That Met Every Need!

My sister found this wonderful place on Vacation Home Rentals! Shannon Point Lodge looked like a great cottage online, but it was perfection for our family! Dad could get around easily with walker and wheelchair (great ramp into the home). He enjoyed watching the HUGE television in the living room and viewing the creek from his comfy chair. Mom, the hardest to please, LOVED her comfortable bed, the solitude and couldn't believe Bill supplied everything we needed. My sister loved crabbing, the rivah room sunrises, and the chairs on the pier. I enjoyed my first experience kayaking (Bill supplies various sized life jackets), the birdwatching and the HAMMOCK! The house is large enough to accomodate a large group, but was wonderful for our small family. We each had our own room and had several places to "get away" from each other when we wanted to. We didn't want to leave and are already talking about next year or even later this year! We highly recommend this incredible get-away!

Ready to go again!

Just got back on Saturday, and we were ready to go back before we got in the driveway. Mr. Miller is a very pleasant and down to earth person. We had a great time and the guys had a wonderful time catching fish in the kayaks. The house was very adaquate for our needs and decorated to the theme. Beds were very comfortable and lots of room. Can't wait to get back next year.

This place is just amazing. "The Jewel of the Chesapeake" It's like being transported back to a more peaceful time. The owner was very helpful and friendly and is available at a moments notice to help in any way to make your stay more enjoyable. I've rented many summer vacation homes but this was by far the best that my family has enjoyed. We caught over 4 dozen crabs in 4 days and a sea trout. The campfire at night amongst the stars just added to the ambience. In the morning we enjoyed quiet and relaxing kayaking which was breath-taking. I hope to go again in September but next year I like to stay for 2 weeks.

Wonderful Getaway

My family and I came here to celebate my parents 45th wedding anniversary and felt like we hit the jackpot for rental places. We had 12 people in our group (adults and kids) and were so comfortable. We all had the most incredible time !! There is so much to do and something for everyone. Some in my party were on the dock getting crabbing practice, others lounging on the hammock or sitting around the fire pit, a few playing board games. I also loved that there was always enough seating for everyone, not just for meals, but for relaxing too. The house is set-up so that the common rooms are all able to be divided (curtains/ glass paned doors) in such a way that you can break up for individual pursuits but they are all still joined so you don't feel isolated from each other. Bill was such a great help to us as well. Throughout our 5 day stay I called needing help or local information and he was always available and ready to assist in whatever capacity we needed. The cabin is located in a spot where we honestly heard no traffic or noise from other people - just the peaceful and relaxing views and nature. I look forward to going back another time and I highly recommend it. Many Thanks Bill !!

This is our second visit to Shannon Point and it was just as great as the first. Our church group held our Prayer/Spiritual Retreat here and it was absolutely amazing. The atmosphere is very conductive to group settings and I would imagine would be just as great for families of any size. Our 12 people had plenty of room to spead out and be comfortable. The owner is more than easy to work with and we will definately come again!

Couldn't have picked a better spot

11 adults and one baby fit SOOOO comfortably into this beautiful, cozy home. Being right there on the water was beautiful- we kayaked, sat on the dock, spent hours around the fire pit and had a BLAST. The openness of the place was awesome and made it possible for our big group to really enjoy our time together. The house, literally, had everything you could want or need and we made a pact that a getaway to Shannon Point Lodge will from now on be an annual event. We are a group of returned Peace Corps volunteers who are now scattered around the U.S. and beyond- and came together from Baltimore, Washington, DC, Boston, and even Zambia. Thanks for such a fantastic, hugely special weekend. :)

Perfect Weekend Getaway

Our stay here over Columbus Day weekend was wonderful - none of us wanted to leave! I don’t think it’s possible to find better bang for your buck. We spent hours out on the river in the Millers’ kayaks and canoe, sat in the hammock, played horseshoes and bocce ball (also provided by the wonderful owners) and fished. As everyone else has mentioned, everything you need is at the house – all we brought was clothes and food! The Millers were very gracious hosts and we will definitely be back here as soon as we can!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Shannon Point Lodge, such a wonderful place for a family vacation!! Our host, Bill Miller, has really thought of everything! The house itself is very well appointed, everything we could possibly have needed was right there at our fingertips. The house is cozy, yet very roomy, there were 8 of us staying at the house and there was lots of room for 5 kids to spread out and play, and plenty of room that we were not bumping into each other. The bedrooms were very nice, beds nice and comfy (and all linens provided!), the seating areas were perfect, the kitchen (which had everything we could possibly have needed) is wonderful, the kids loved eating at the breakfast bar. We made great use of the "rivah room", playing games (wonderful that a poker mat and chips were there to use), and hanging out! The kids had so much fun crabbing each day, and our final count was over 6 dozen, which made for an excellent meal our last night there! The place is peaceful and quiet, the dock is a wonderful place to enjoy the beauty of the river in quiet solitude! Kayaks and life vests were right there to use, the kids had a lot of fun kayaking, and the sister in law kayaked for her very first time. We really can't say enough good things about our stay there, we are so very thankful to have found this property, so thankful for Bill making it available, and so blessed to have had such a wonderful stay. Bill was a great host, readily answered any questions we had, and was quick to make sure we had everything we needed. Shannon Point Lodge is indeed very peaceful and very private. Thanks again Bill!

Shannon Point Lodge was wonderful. We loved the layout of the house and the way it was decorated. We were especially intrigued by the ceiling fan made from fishing rods! The house was comfortable and had thoughtful extras like hair dryers. We took a peaceful ride in the 2 man kayak. We highly recommend the house and would stay there again ourselves.

A perfect getaway

Shannon Point Lodge is the perfect getaway to relax. My family and I, including 2 grandmothers, could not be more impressed with the house. It is so much better than the pictures portray. The house is tastefully appointed, making the house very comfortable and cozy. Oh, and the beds! They are amazing. Everything you need is there. We had a such a great time kayaying and canoeing every day. We also discovered swimming with life jackets. All you have to do is float ... talk about relaxing! Even my 82-year old mother loved it. Crabbing was plentiful from the dock. Although we did end up buying some from Harriet's to supplement what we had. Also shrimp from Faunce's was incredible. For history buffs... Stratford Hall is well worth the trip. This is the birthplace of Robert E. Lee. We also visited George Washington's birthplace and Colonial Beach. Overall, this is the place to get away. For the price, you just can't beat it. For us Northerners, it was wonderful to experience that Southern hospitality. Everywhere we went, we were treated kindly. Thanks Bill!

Wonderfull place for a family vacation

I rented this property (I am from Florida) and my sister(from Ohio) rented Bill Miller other property in Sandy Point because my son was getting married in the area, and boy what a find. It was not only clean and very well supplied, we enjoyed every miniute we were there. My 12 year old grandson learned the art of crabing ( thanks to Bill) and never left the dock where the kids both big and small could enjoy fishing, kayaking, and the water overall. The yard was so big and well kept that we had all kickball tournaments, cookouts, and lots of family time on the deck. The countyside was beautiful, the wedding was beautiful and we could have had a better host, thanks Bill.

We had an incredible time. Thanks Bill for everything. The house is very comfortable and has absolutely everything and even more than we expected. We were a big group, larger than what I originally planned when I reserved the house; including 10 kids ages 15-1 and we all had comfortable beds. There was no need for us to use the extra camping mattresses we brought in just in case. The kids had a blast fishing and also "crabbing", which was a completely new experience for everyone. We enjoyed the boat, canoe and kayaks a lot too. As well as the "extras", like the boat ride that Bill provided.

Everything you need for a great stay was provided. There are three nice rooms with queen or double beds and a room with bunk beds and a single for children. There is even a crib, baby monitor and high chair. The kitchen has everything you need to cook, grill, or chill! Outside there is a nice deck, dock, boats, firepit and even wood. This is a great location for relaxing, exploring wine coutry or exploring the nearby small towns. We were very pleasantly surprised and will probably return in the future.

I want to give this a terrible review so that it doesn't become such a popular spot that we can't get reservations again! We (6 women) had a quilting retreat here. We had a wonderful time! There's just about anything you need in the house. The beds were comfortable, the kitchen well-equipped, the grounds inviting. Evenings on the deck at sunrise were relaxing, and daily walks with 2 large dogs were lovely. There were kayaks and a canoe, picnic tables, a firepit with firewood, plenty of outdoor lounge chairs... The stars were so much brighter than here in DC due to the lack of lights from stores, streetlights. traffic... Ahhhhhhhh. The owner, Bill, was only a phone call away if any problems arose, and a nicer guy you'll never meet. We're planning to make this an annual trip.

The home was very nice, lots of amenities, including linens. Very comfortable inside and lots of privacy outside. We were unaware that there is jellyfish in this part of the river. The kids were disappointed that they couldn't go swimming.

Thanks to the Millers the Zwahlen's had the most inexpensive, fun vacation. The house was equipped with everything that you need. We all had such a great time here. The house was just wonderful. It was almost as good as being at at home,actually better cause we didn't have to go to work!! It was awesome Bill let us use his pool to swim,since the jelly fish were out. He was a great host. We would have no problem coming here again and would surely refer this property to anyone for a great vacation time!!

Thanks to Bill Miller for offering such a comfortable, clean, and well-equipped place for our family to congregate. With our growing extended family, this house offered space to relax and play inside and outside, convenient baby-related features, and a beautiful view with peace and quiet (at least while the babies were sleeping). :-)

We LOVE the Shannon Point Lodge! Both weekends that we have spent there have been fantastic and unforgettable. Our boys have enjoyed the relaxation and the activities more than any vacation in years. I loved the quiet. We all returned relaxed, happy, and refreshed. We can't wait to go back!

We stayed at the Miller's other property last year and decided to try this one out too. The house is situated on a beautiful spot on the water and is private from the neighboring houses. The Miller's were once again fabulous hosts and allowed us to use their kayaks, bikes, and even crab catchers! The private, residential beach is breathtaking and makes you feel like someone out of the Corona commercials. We can't wait to stay there again and would recommend it to anyone!

Thanksgiving with Our Family

Our daughters and their families stayed in this house while we stayed at Parker Shores nearby. We gathered at this house for Thanksgiving dinner in the large rivah front dining room where we easily seated twelve for dinner. We made great use of the large kitchen, and spacious living areas. The view from this house is spectacular, pure joy in any season. We'll be back!

Shannon Point is an amazing get away. It was very conducive and relaxing for me, who likes to fish and be outdoors, and for my 80 year old mother who enjoyed lounging, taking walks and watching the wildlife. It was so great, I have booked two weeks in the Summer of 2010. It is by far the best rental we have stayed at in the last few years. The owners are great people and the house feels like home when you open the door and step inside!

I came here for a weekend getaway with a few friends. It was more than we could have asked for, and for a very affordable price! The house is surprisingly spacious, and very comfortable. Definitely take advantage of the fire pit, canoe, kayaks and fishing poles if you come here; we had a blast out by the water! The owner was extremely welcoming and made sure we had everything we needed. We're coming back ASAP. ...we really want to try to make this an annual tradition!

We had a great weekend! We had 11 people staying over the weekend at this lodge and we had an amazing time. The renters are extremely accommodating and nice. We couldn't ask for a better place to stay. This was a great value and we cannot wait to do it again!

This Vacation Home was fabulous (open and bright), and the best outfitted home that I have ever visited...everything that you could possible need was provided. Very relaxing, great views, excellent interior and exterior rooms and appliances, boats, and pier fishing/crabing was the best. Highly Recommeded.

I will share with you this hidden gem on a scenic bend in the river down in the Northern Neck. It's close, tranquil and cheap (in price). The house is recently renovated and well-appointed, suprisingly spacious and great for a couple families with or without kids and dogs. The owners are attentive and then leave you alone, and there's a great restaurant nearby called Good Eats.

Thank you for having such a beautiful lodge we were able to call home this past week. We live on the Ohio River where such folks are considered âRiver Ratsâ! So it has been a very good change to be âcreek crittersâ the past week. We have enjoyed the quiet because we have been away from 4 very active dogs, river traffic and a nearby train track. The occasional âplunkâ of a fish in the creek has even sounded restful. This place is truly a gem!
