Area Description
We're in a desirable, quiet corner of Sanford's noted historic district, about a mile's pleasant stroll from our quaint downtown market and shopping district and its adjoining Riverwalk on the south shore of north-flowing St John's River. Here it widens to form sprawling Lake Monroe. In its heyday at the turn of the last century, the busy Port of Sanford was southern terminus for paddle-wheelers steaming south out of Jacksonville -at the time, the main route for 19th century tourists, mainly from New England, making their way to the interior of Central Florida.
