Area Description

Sanibel offers a wide variety of fine cuisines, boutiques and sports, all within a 10 minute drive (a 20 minute bicycle ride along Sanibel's bike paths) among its carefully preserved natural flora and fauna. Sanibel's eco-treasures include the mangrove forests at the island's J.N. Ding Darling wildlife preserve, home to many alligators, tropical bird species, fish, and the gentle Florida manatee (sea cow).

Sanibel prides itself on its eco-consciousness. The island has been carefully developed to incorporate the natural resources, including its mangrove forests, natural beaches, and the wildlife which call them home. At certain times of year, visitors will find carefully marked sea turtle nests on the beach, as well as specially designated nesting areas for rare birds. Sanibel's deep sea fishing is world renown, including the prized tarpon and snook.
