This is a really quiet comfortable place to unwind. The location is great to both ocean and hiking. Kanga does a really nice job of providing all of the amenities and wonderful welcoming gift basket. The back porch provides privacy and is a great place to take walks.

Owner was going to charge me for mattress top and sheets . Forgive me but this is wrong! isn't that already included when you in business of vacation rentals ?

Could not have asked for a better visit. Kanga is a delight and made us feel right at home. The cottage is cozy, private and quiet. Great value. No shortage of things to do in Santa Barabara, just not enough time. Can't wait to go back!

This cottage suited us perfectly. It was quiet, conveniently located and we enjoyed spending time here. Kanga was very welcoming and treated us very kindly, including our dogs. I would highly recommend this as a place to stay.

This studio apartment, which is actually attached to the owner's house but still quite private, is small (like a generous sized hotel room) but nicely made up. It is in a nice, quiet neighborhood adjacent to a lovely, little park. Kanga could not be more helpful.

Thought we should share our nightmare experience trying to rent this place. After numerous emails trying to get basic questions answered---rife with mis-communication, confusing answers, no answers, and flat-out unanswered emails, we had a promise from Kanga, the owner, that she was holding the dates for us, I sent a number of emails just trying to suss out payment options, which she never answered.....I was getting quite leary of renting from her, but the place looked nice and time was getting short. Then after over a week of waiting to hear back from her, I sent yet another email---and she informed us that she'd rented it to someone else! Completely unprofessional, absolute betrayal! Couldn't believe it.....how much of our time she wasted, and we were only lucky to find another place on such short notice...which we ended up having a great time at up on the Mesa, only steps from a wonderful beach. I would steer far clear of this fickle and self-serving landlord---she had quite the attitude of "you'll be so lucky to stay here---my place is so wonderful!"---all handed out with a saccharine sweet to start out, and quite the sour ending!!!

My husband and I just spent a week here for our fourth visit to Kanga's sweet and lovely cottage. We love to return here because it has everything we're looking for - perfect location, quiet, private, clean, spacious, beautifully decorated. Look out every window, and you'll only see gorgeous greenery everywhere. A lovely patio with dining table and chairs, lounge chairs, bbq, and lots of space for your surfboard, bikes or whatever you need to spend time in this amazing town. You're a mile from the beach, a couple of blocks from Montecito Village, tennis courts and restaurants. Or you might not want to leave at all! I spent one day just reading and lounging and being lazy the whole day. I cooked a lovely meal in the sweet kitchen, listened to the birds chirp outside and savored what vacation is all about for me. Leaving all worries behind. And this is why we keep coming back. Kanga makes us feel like everything is taken care of. All we have to do is enjoy ourselves and recharge. Just what a good vacation should be. Thank you, once again, Kanga. It was a magical week.

My fiancé and I stayed at Catching Heaven for about 5 days in May. We loved the location so much that we booked another 5 days the following week. This cottage is very beautifully decorated and tranquil. The patio is a great place to read or take in the sun and birds, or have a little breakfast. There are just the best touches of a bed and breakfast, such as a welcome fruit and wine basket, dainty flower buds next to the bed, and really more amenities than what we expected from a vacation rental. Kanga is an exceptionally warm and helpful person. She was always eager to provide ideas for outdoor activities nearby as well as restaurants. She really goes out of her way to tailor your stay to your specific needs, including our little dog. We felt very well cared for and yet Kanga provided the privacy we were seeking. We will be returning soon!

We really enjoyed our stay at this lovely, quiet cottage with charming decor and inviting patio. Kenga has thought of everything to meet any needs of her guests. If you bring your pet, the patio is gated and a safe environment. There is also a beautiful park nearby. The cottage is in a perfect location with easy access from Highway 101. It is secluded but in walking distance of amenities which include a great bakery and coffee shop. We definitely will return to the cottage in the future.

We spent a week at the cottage and brought my little dog. As soon as we arrived, Kanga greeted us and made us feel at home immediately. Kanga went out of her way to make our stay extra special with a beautiful gift basket, flowers and even a special blanket for my dog! Kanga is very helpful with restaurant recommendations and providing information and directions for the local area. The cottage is in a great location near the Montecito Village and a short drive to Santa Barbara. In the room you will also find a nice library of DVD's that we really enjoyed during the rainy days we were there! The patio is very charming, too! Glad we were able to stay in your darling cottage. Thank you for everything!

The owner of this casita has created a delightful space to nourish oneself...Beautiful in design and in the landscaping around the home , pool and hot tub extremely inviting. The owner was very inviting and helpful when needed...the place serene......yet close enough to downtown Santa Barbara and the wine country to not be an inconvenience.

Wonderful. Quiet. Secluded. Friendly owner and son. We absolutely loved our stay in Dorothy's guest cottage. Yes, it is small, but so open and bright! Gardens are magnificent; you feel as if you are miles away from a city. Walking path around Casa de Maria is lovely. The owner lives on property as well; she does like to meet you and is very friendly! Our dog liked it too :)

My husband and I stayed in this lovely cottage for ten days in December and had a wonderful time. Kanga, our gracious host, could not have been more helpful. She oriented us to everything in the cottage, had a beautiful gift basket waiting for us and our favorite coffe and tea stocked. She gave us wonderful tips and recommendations to the surrounding areas based on our interests and also had put together a large binder of useful information that we referred to daily. The bed was super comfy and the garden patio was divine. During our ten day stay, we rented a car and were able to hike, go to the beach, enjoy lovely local restaurants, tour the vineyards and drive to Big Sur for the day, which was amazing. Kanga was ever so helpful and available, but also gave us our privacy. This cottage is located within walking distance to town, shops, restaurants, and the local beach. This cottage is a little piece of heaven...

We spent a wonderful long weekend at this lovely cottage in Montecito. Kanga met us upon our arrival and gave us some great ideas for what to do in the area. The cottage is about a 5 minute drive to downtown Santa Barbara. What a gorgeous place ! I wish I lived here!

I could not recommend this property more highly. It was the perfect way to avoid the crowd and crush of the downtown/waterfront hotels, while being only a few minutes from anywhere we wanted to go. Kanga was the perfect host -- providing absolutely everything we needed and recommendations personalized to our interests. The location was peaceful and calming -- the perfect way to unwind and relax. The extra touches put this over the top when you are looking for a place to call yours for a time in Santa Barbara. I only hesitate to recommend it because it may not be available next time I'm looking to stay!

We absolutely loved our time at "SIMPLY PARADISE"... We were in SB for our son's graduation, & needed a large home to accomodate my family & in-laws. SIMPLY PARADISE was the perfect house and beyond my expectations, the views from all angles of house & decks were magnificent. In fact, we dined at the house every evening, the beautiful setting was simply too nice to dine out. We look forward to staying at your awesome home in the near future. Thank you so much for sharing your home with our families, We appreciate the warm hospitality! Thanks, Melissa!!! JULI CARROLL

Got so busy after we returned last summer I didn't get a chance to do the review until now. Wone year later we are still fondly remembering our little place in paradise last summer. As everyone else has said everything was perfect about this rental... The owner couldn't have been more helpful upon our arrival then blissfully left us in peace for the remainder of the week. On a super quiet private road thus charming extension onto the main house was quiet with a private patio and incredibly comfortable bed. Our favorite lical jaunts included almost daily walks to the upper village for coffee, deli or a great Italian dinner. We ate in the upper village 4 nights out of the 7 we were there! We felt like real locals. Also enjoyed a whale watching trip to the channel islands (whales galore!), a day trip wine tasting through the Santa Inez valley and Lompoc , strolling through downtown Santa Barbara, the beach, farmers market, and browsing the aisles of Chaucers Books. Too many wonderful memories to enumerate. Bottom line: go! You won't be sorry!

We came out to Montecito for our honeymoon in mid-January. We were greeted very warmly by Kanga, who gave us a wonderful basket with fruit and wine, and also provided us with a generous amount of local tourism information and directions to the best local attractions and restaurants. Kanga also had cut some fresh flowers, which were lovely. The cottage itself was wonderful, just as shown in the pictures. It was extremely quiet and private. The bed was very comfortable, and everything was very functional. We brought in some food and had some relaxing breakfasts at home. The location of the cottage itself was very serene. It is only a ten minute walk to Montecito Village, which has a small local grocer, bakery, post office, local bookstore, and other really cute shops. There was hardly any traffic in the area while we were there. The cottage was only ten minutes by car from downtown Santa Barbara. We thoroughly enjoyed our honeymoon in Montecito. Thank you Kanga, we hope to be back soon.

Worst EVER! Was looking to rent this beautiful cottage. Waited three days for Kanga to decide to rent the cottage to us....because she was holding it for someone else. So then Kanga finally lets us know that we can rent it. We are celebrating out 6th Anniversary and changed our plans to a three day minimum just so we could stay at this property. Well Kanga had a 8 day renter and kept holding out for them to rent it before us. I even told her I was willing to pay today. But she supposedly is a woman of her word..Right? Well Friday at 630 pm less than 6 days till we arrive. She finally says yes she will rent the cottage. Becasue the 8 day renter hasnt gotten back to her. Then Saturday night at 11pm she sends me an email stating, Kanga speaking , " Sorry, but I didnt check my phone and got a confirmation for the 8 day renter that there coming after all. So sorry cant rent to you!!!" She appears to be honoring her word. But how does a person honor their word, when she canceedl on the us after stating we could rent from her. She chose them becasue of money! If this is the treatment one gets just in the beginning...hmm Watch out. you three night rentals! She may say you can stay but cancel on you..just becuase she has someone who wants to stay longer than you. If money is all this woman cares about...I would be concerned...

This was my second time coming to Catching Heaven, and again I didn’t stay long enough. Four days is just not enough time to enjoy this amazing place. However, it did completely rejuvenate my soul. The Linens were beautiful and soft and the bed was perfect. The kitchen had everything you could need, even spices and condiments. The new island gave extra space for cooking and my other favorite was the lounge chairs on the patio. Kanga has so many great places she suggests to see, and everyone is great, but I didn’t get to all of them. I will just have to come back again! It was so peaceful and perfect. My dogs love it too! The patio is so great you will never want to leave it, but everything is so close and the beaches are never crowded. I live in a resort town and I cherish each chance I get to visit Catching Heaven because it is just the perfect place to relax and unwind. If you like to hike than this is the place for you. There are hundreds of well marked, well maintained trails with the most amazing views of the ocean and the sunset. Also the people you meet are so friendly and helpful. Every time I hike I hear about another must see trail and they are all so beautiful. This is my favorite town and Catching Heaven is my favorite place to stay!
September 23, 2011
My husband and I were looking for somewhere to unwind and relax and we definitely found that at the catching heaven cottage. The home, while attached to the owners main residence, was completely private and quiet. The connecting room is unused and the door is blocked to where you would never even know that there is a main home. It feels like you are in your own, private cottage, and essentially you are. Having the ability to open up all the windows and the doors onto the cute plant and flower filled porch was divine. Especially for us since we live in Florida and rarely have the ability to enjoy cool breezes. Kanga is and was the sweetest woman you will ever meet. Your enjoyment while you stay at Catching Heaven is very important to her. If you have any questions about where to eat or what do to, Kanga has plenty of suggestions on hand. We wanted to be able to cook at home and did that with the porch grill and cute little kitchen that had everything you needed to make a meal. We mentioned to Kanga that we were interested in a hike and she provided us with a suggestion and map. The hike was beautiful! Not too easy, not too hard either. Just right! And her hand drawn map really helped us find our way with ease. Without it I think we might have questioned which direction to take at times. It was a lifesaver! The next time we make our way back to Santa Barbara, we definitely plan on staying at Catching Heaven again.

This cottage is so charming, clean, and private! We felt very peaceful and relaxed even as we spent time finding housing for our daughter who is attending school there. The beaches are lovely and so is the weather. Kanga is a most gracious and kind hostess...very prepared with answers and wonderful suggestions to help you find that special place to see. We can't wait to return to this delightful cottage, nestled on a quiet lane....next time we hope to spend a little more time with Kanga.

My wife and I were looking for a relaxing vacation cottage to stay in for a 4 day/3 night trip to Santa Barbara. For less money than most hotels in Santa Barbara, we found this amazing cottage. It was very tranquil, impeccably clean, and very comfortable. The plush king bed was perfect, hardwood floors throughout the cottage, lots of space, bright windows looking out to the beautiful landscaping and pool area. The kitchen stocked with everything we needed to prepare some meals. Our chocolate lab was welcomed. The location was close to some excellent restaurants 5-10 minutes away. We just wish we could have had more time to stay and relax, barbecue on the patio, soak in the jacuzzi, and watch movies on the flat screen over the fireplace.
August 27, 2011
The cottage is exactly as described and more. It is close to everything, while at the same time it has a feeling of being in a very secluded place. The best part of the cottage was getting to meet the owner, Kanga. She went out of her way to make sure we had the best experience possible. I go home to Santa Barbara every year and my time at Kanga's cottage was the most relaxing visit I have had. We are very much looking forward for the opportunity to stay there again!

Unfortunately, I never stayed at this quaint (so it seems) place due to no one ever contacted me back regarding my inquirey. There was not a phone number noted and I tried twice to get a response back.....and nothing. So....to say the least, it did not leave a good impression on my end. I understand the rental might not be available for the dates I requested. However,I expected at least an email response back to let me know that. Sincerely, Chandra Tso

Staying at this place is really beyond what words can say. I was looking for a very special place to stay as I had planned on proposing to my girlfriend while we were in the Santa Barbara area in wine country. From the first phone call to Kanga in talking about the place and the Montecito area to our last enjoyable moments there it was the perfect experience. The angels truly were among us at Catching Heaven!! Kanga is such a delightful person to talk to and has lots of passion with her hospitality and info about the area. Enjoying the cozy fireplace, walking up to pure quietness and the birds chirping in the private courtyard, the amount of natural light that fills the space during the day, the ambiance at night, and a view of gentle landscapes and privacy out every window really gives this place the perfect setting and the perfect moment for me. This place to me is a 5+ star and we plan to stay here again when we come to visit the area again. Thanks Kanga for everything you really helped us catch what will be one of the most memorable experiences of our lifetime!

My husband and I were lucky to be able to celebrate our 30th anniversary in Santa Barbara. Kanga made sure we had everything we needed. Her hospitality and wealth of information made it easy to fill up our days. Kanga wants to know ahead of time your interests and based on that she recommeded "Lotusland" to us. It was was the highlight of our trip. The cottage is located in a very beautiful and peaceful neighborhood. So much better than a hotel room with elevators and ice machines! Thank you Kanga.

We absolutely loved staying at the Catching Heaven studio cottage--a very comfortable, intimate & peaceful space filled with beauty, light & a European flavor. Gorgeous decor. The quality of the cottage is consistent with a slice of an upscale lifestyle that met our wishes so we felt right at home here. Kanga, the owner, was very resourceful, helpful, & provided wonderful "personalized service," and with such an uplifting spirit! We felt welcomed with a generous gift basket of wine, organic fruit, & chocolates, & good area info. The kitchen, though small is workable, & well stocked with upscale appliances, cute dishware, coffee, tea, condiments, a little table and chairs-- with a larger space outside for eating, relaxing or entertaining on a quaint private enclosed stone patio as well. We enjoyed the tropical mature landscaping & flowers on this property, consistent with the signature of Montecito. Manning Park is just around the corner. It was delightful walking through this on the way to Pier LaFond Deli in the upper Montecito Shopping Center and the Montecito Y where they keep the pool temperature at a comfy 83 degrees. We used the fireplace on a cooler occasion & the heat and air conditioning does make a difference with changing seasons. The weather was starting to change seasons from spring to summer & we loved being able to open the doors to abundant light & gentle breezes. Kanga told us about some secret walks nearby & good organic food restaurants. Blessings THANK YOU!

We were lucky enough to stay at Kanga's cottage the week after Christmas. What a perfect place to unwind after the hectic December pace! Kanga is a wonderful hostess who even made our pup feel welcome. The serentity is unmatched. We can't wait to return and often comment that we need to go back to the cottage so we can get some sleep!

Property should not be listed on this site, maybe craigslist. Contacted owner about 3 day stay several months ago, but they wanted to wait 2 wks to see if someone would come along and rent for week rather than 3 days. 2 wks went by wanted another wk, then 2 wks, etc. during which time talked with and emailed owner on several times. Very strange and never did hear back either way. We understand the desire to rent for a week rather than 3 days, but if thats all you want just list it that way and dont waste peoples time. Worst of all as we had been planning months in advance by the time we figured they would never make a decision, the alternative locations had raised rates significantly from where we otherwise could had made reservations.

Santa Barbara is a great place with so many things to do! We stayed at Kanga's cottage for a week to celebrate our one year anniversary. We were greeted with a hug and very nice fruit basket. She has prepared a book filled with things to do near and around town, restaurants and other attractions. We will recommend her cottage to all of our friends!

Serrendipity led me here, waiting until the last minute to arrange accommodations for a few days and nights of personal retreat. I left it all to the Fates, but thankfully for me, Kanga is the perfect hostess and left nothing to chance. If anyone is familiar with the Bible verse (I forget the reference), "I have prepared for you a place;" those words came to mind immediately, ssuch was this heavenly space, the perfect setting for some much-needed respite. Walking in upon arrival was surreal. Afternoon sun filtering onto the stark white bed linens, green glow of the garden, soft and calm music, lights low, the place warm. I'd never felt so welcome in my life, so taken care of by the room, her efforts and Kanga's big hug and energetic introduction to Montecito and SB. From her custom-made guidebook, the fireplace that took the edge off on a cool night, to the neighborhood delis and cafes, all within 10 min of SB State Street. Quiet, peaceful, safe, comfort of home. A picture-perfect page out of a Pottery Barn catalog! (I mean that in the most flattering sense!) I have not frequented many 5-star hotels in my life, but I would think this rivals the best of them. Perfect mix of private solitude and a hostess's personal care, she knew it without me saying a word. I hope to be back sooner than later.

Kanga's cottage truly is a slice of heaven. Everything is perfectly arranged for privacy, for comfort, and for relaxation. The patio and BBQ made cooking under the stars and quiet romantic dinners.... heavenly! Everything you need is provided, including an excellent hostess who seems to anticipate your moods and needs perfectly. The most beautiful vacation. We will most certainly return.

My husband and I rented this lovely cottage while looking for a home in Santa Barbara and We are certainly glad we did. Kanga, our hostess, thinks of everything. Rooms are immaculate, bedding is luxurious, towels are the softest I have ever used! Everything we needed, and more. We were greeted by Kanga and a lovely basket of fruit and wine. Nice Touch! The patio, a very important "room" in my opinion, is large and private and extremely comfortable; we spent quite a bit of time there when we were able. We stayed two extra days and did not want to leave. We will be back, Kanga, and soon.

Above and beyond any expectation. Even before I arrived Kanga was a great help in making my arrival go as smoothly as possible. Her gift basket and note on arrival was such a nice touch. The accomadations were soo.. beautiful, comfortable, restful and relaxing. Kanga had a book filled with things to do and resturants in the area with maps. My stay and the beautiful hikes were wonderful. I would definitely recommend it to anyone. THANKS

My daughter and I were so pleased with our time at "La Casita". We loved the location, the quiet, the proximity to ALL and the dog friendly environment. Although Dorothy was "under the weather", her son John was gracious, friendly and helpful and so generous. We felt comfortable and so lucky to have found this little slice of heaven and wished we had been able to stay longer. We hope to be lucky enough to stay there again one day in the future.

My husband and I spent an incredible week at Catching Heaven in September, 2009. The cottage was cozy, comfortable and had plenty of closet space. It has loads of charm, and it is such a tranquil setting that we found it hard to leave. But once you do venture out, you will find an easy trek to many attractions in the surrounding area. Adjacent to the cottage is Manning Park, a very nice “green” space that is perfect for quiet strolls and picnics. Catching Heaven is situated on a lovely lane, which makes for an easy walk to the Upper Village of Montecito, where we had an excellent dinner at Via Vai Trattoria & Pizzeria. By car, it’s a brief ride to the Coast Village Road where there’s plenty of shopping and a good selection of restaurants. If you are a breakfast and/or pastry fan, you must check out Jeannine’s Bakery, and for the best selection and deals on Vino, we found the local Von’s to be the place to shop. Butterfly Beach is just down the road and is well known as one of the best dog friendly beaches in the area. Kanga's warmth and hospitality is unsurpassed. She was most helpful in recommending the best of Montecito and Santa Barbara. To sum it up, we would highly recommend Catching Heaven and we will definitely stay there again.

Vacationers BEWARE! This listing is a blatant false advertising. Here are the facts: 1.It says "one-bedroom cottage, guest house." This rental is a STUDUIO! One room only, attached to the main house where the owner lives, and with which it shares a wall. NOT a guest house, or cottage, both of which are free-standing. 2.The ocean is listed less than a mile away. It is over 3 miles, making it a driving rather than walking, distance. 3.The patio is NOT private as the listing says. It's a walk-through for the owner to get to the covered parking lot and street. 4.The studio does NOT have a view of the mountains from any of its windows. 5.The "fully equipped kitchen" is a small kitchenette with warped counters. 6.The "lush tropical gardens" are a dusty, cluttered yard, and not accessible from the studio. You cannot see it from any of the windows. All of this was discovered by my shocked husband and I after a 10-hr drive to get there. It was late in the day, and we asked if we could spend the night and look for something else in the morning. The owner refused categorically. We pointed out that she posted false advertising. Her response: "So far, no one else has complained." We were turned out into the street, and had to spend the night in an overpriced motel. The next day we tried, unsuccessfully, to find a rental on a short notice, then drove back. Twice we offered the owner a chance to correct her listing before posting this review. She never re

We stayed in this gorgeous spot for a long weekend to go to a wedding. This place had everything we needed and more than we could hope for. It was beautiful, comfortable, convenient, and very homey. Our hostess, Kanga, was affable and very helpful. We wanted for nothing while we stayed at her lovely home, but if we had a need, we were confident she'd be able to help us. She unobtrusively provided a great deal of helpful information about Santa Barbara. If you've never gone to the Santa Barbara farmer's market, take a stroll through for every sense to be stimulated. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, and look forward to staying there again. We encourage others not to miss this great place!

This truly is a perfect getaway paradise. The accomodations were cozy, immaculate and charming, the location just perfect. The hospitality could not be better and the whole experience was even better than we expected. Adding the extra day was great, wish we could have stayed longer. Hope to return as soon as possible!

this place is the perfect peaceful getaway! away from tourists and traffic, but close to all. Kanga had all the info on places that I would have liked to see ready when I arrived and the hiking was amazing! the beach was so close and there is the most beautiful little park right behind the property. Tropical views from each window and complete silence..except the singing birds...ahh this was heavenly! I will be returning every chance I get!
Loving your cottage....had my "kids" for dinner on the patio last night...and my grandson spent the night...he's still sleeping!!!!its so peaceful! Thanks!
Tell me about these WONDERFUL sheets....they are DIVINE! Is it the thread count? SO SMOOTH! ThAnks again...
Thank you for your lovely hospitality! We loved your cottage and anytime we come back to Santa Barbara - we will book again. Also - I'll tell all my friends about it.
Seeing that photo made me long to be back in beautiful Montecito already! I've been telling everyone how wonderful your place is, and I'm sure I'll be sending some folks your way. Thanks again, Kanga! We hope to see you again someday soon.
Brian and I are still talking about the wonderful vacation we had in April, and want to plan our next trip back down. .
My purpose in spending a week in Montecito was to enjoy time with Ashley and do some self-reflection, and your guest house was ideal for that. I sat out on your tranquil patio and read a book, thought about my future, and dozed off now and again. It was so peaceful to listen to the birds, the occasional sprinkler. We also appreciated your assistance. Life is so darn short, and to be able to spend this precious time with my daughter and her friends means a lot to me. And you made it possible, by providing us with everything we needed. Thanks!
I wanted to thank you for your hospitality this past weekend. Jared and I had a wonderful time, and we enjoyed meeting you. Your cottage was beautiful, and we plan to visit again. Thank you once again. I can't express just how wonderful our visit was.
