peaceful foothill retreat

My fiancé and I stayed at Catching Heaven for about 5 days in May. We loved the location so much that we booked another 5 days the following week. This cottage is very beautifully decorated and tranquil. The patio is a great place to read or take in the sun and birds, or have a little breakfast. There are just the best touches of a bed and breakfast, such as a welcome fruit and wine basket, dainty flower buds next to the bed, and really more amenities than what we expected from a vacation rental. Kanga is an exceptionally warm and helpful person. She was always eager to provide ideas for outdoor activities nearby as well as restaurants. She really goes out of her way to tailor your stay to your specific needs, including our little dog. We felt very well cared for and yet Kanga provided the privacy we were seeking. We will be returning soon!

Perfect Cottage

We really enjoyed our stay at this lovely, quiet cottage with charming decor and inviting patio. Kenga has thought of everything to meet any needs of her guests. If you bring your pet, the patio is gated and a safe environment. There is also a beautiful park nearby. The cottage is in a perfect location with easy access from Highway 101. It is secluded but in walking distance of amenities which include a great bakery and coffee shop. We definitely will return to the cottage in the future.

Cute, Cozy and Peaceful

We spent a week at the cottage and brought my little dog. As soon as we arrived, Kanga greeted us and made us feel at home immediately. Kanga went out of her way to make our stay extra special with a beautiful gift basket, flowers and even a special blanket for my dog! Kanga is very helpful with restaurant recommendations and providing information and directions for the local area. The cottage is in a great location near the Montecito Village and a short drive to Santa Barbara. In the room you will also find a nice library of DVD's that we really enjoyed during the rainy days we were there! The patio is very charming, too! Glad we were able to stay in your darling cottage. Thank you for everything!

Hospitality like nowhere else

My husband and I stayed in this lovely cottage for ten days in December and had a wonderful time. Kanga, our gracious host, could not have been more helpful. She oriented us to everything in the cottage, had a beautiful gift basket waiting for us and our favorite coffe and tea stocked. She gave us wonderful tips and recommendations to the surrounding areas based on our interests and also had put together a large binder of useful information that we referred to daily. The bed was super comfy and the garden patio was divine. During our ten day stay, we rented a car and were able to hike, go to the beach, enjoy lovely local restaurants, tour the vineyards and drive to Big Sur for the day, which was amazing. Kanga was ever so helpful and available, but also gave us our privacy. This cottage is located within walking distance to town, shops, restaurants, and the local beach. This cottage is a little piece of heaven...

Perfect Weekend!

We spent a wonderful long weekend at this lovely cottage in Montecito. Kanga met us upon our arrival and gave us some great ideas for what to do in the area. The cottage is about a 5 minute drive to downtown Santa Barbara. What a gorgeous place ! I wish I lived here!

I could not recommend this property more highly. It was the perfect way to avoid the crowd and crush of the downtown/waterfront hotels, while being only a few minutes from anywhere we wanted to go. Kanga was the perfect host -- providing absolutely everything we needed and recommendations personalized to our interests. The location was peaceful and calming -- the perfect way to unwind and relax. The extra touches put this over the top when you are looking for a place to call yours for a time in Santa Barbara. I only hesitate to recommend it because it may not be available next time I'm looking to stay!

Fantastic honeymoon in Montecito

We came out to Montecito for our honeymoon in mid-January. We were greeted very warmly by Kanga, who gave us a wonderful basket with fruit and wine, and also provided us with a generous amount of local tourism information and directions to the best local attractions and restaurants. Kanga also had cut some fresh flowers, which were lovely. The cottage itself was wonderful, just as shown in the pictures. It was extremely quiet and private. The bed was very comfortable, and everything was very functional. We brought in some food and had some relaxing breakfasts at home. The location of the cottage itself was very serene. It is only a ten minute walk to Montecito Village, which has a small local grocer, bakery, post office, local bookstore, and other really cute shops. There was hardly any traffic in the area while we were there. The cottage was only ten minutes by car from downtown Santa Barbara. We thoroughly enjoyed our honeymoon in Montecito. Thank you Kanga, we hope to be back soon.

We stayed here back in 2009 and loved it so much that we decided to come back to celebrate our 25th anniversary. Everything was PERFECT. Kanga was a gracious host, and we were greeted with a lovely basket of fruit, chocolate and wine. Located on a quiet lane, the cottage is secluded, peaceful and beautiful. The linens are luxurious, and Kanga provides everything you could possibly need. DVDs, books, magazines, a well-stocked kitchen. There is a BBQ in the private patio, along with lounge chairs, gorgeous plants and flowers, and a dining table. Close to everything, we played tennis, biked and walked everywhere. There are lovely restaurants nearby, and Butterfly Beach is just a short bike ride away. Both of our visits were so memorable, and we can't wait to return. This is a magical place, and I can't recommend it highly enough.

Like Coming Home..

This was my second time coming to Catching Heaven, and again I didn’t stay long enough. Four days is just not enough time to enjoy this amazing place. However, it did completely rejuvenate my soul. The Linens were beautiful and soft and the bed was perfect. The kitchen had everything you could need, even spices and condiments. The new island gave extra space for cooking and my other favorite was the lounge chairs on the patio. Kanga has so many great places she suggests to see, and everyone is great, but I didn’t get to all of them. I will just have to come back again! It was so peaceful and perfect. My dogs love it too! The patio is so great you will never want to leave it, but everything is so close and the beaches are never crowded. I live in a resort town and I cherish each chance I get to visit Catching Heaven because it is just the perfect place to relax and unwind. If you like to hike than this is the place for you. There are hundreds of well marked, well maintained trails with the most amazing views of the ocean and the sunset. Also the people you meet are so friendly and helpful. Every time I hike I hear about another must see trail and they are all so beautiful. This is my favorite town and Catching Heaven is my favorite place to stay!

This cottage is so charming, clean, and private! We felt very peaceful and relaxed even as we spent time finding housing for our daughter who is attending school there. The beaches are lovely and so is the weather. Kanga is a most gracious and kind hostess...very prepared with answers and wonderful suggestions to help you find that special place to see. We can't wait to return to this delightful cottage, nestled on a quiet lane....next time we hope to spend a little more time with Kanga.

The cottage is exactly as described and more. It is close to everything, while at the same time it has a feeling of being in a very secluded place. The best part of the cottage was getting to meet the owner, Kanga. She went out of her way to make sure we had the best experience possible. I go home to Santa Barbara every year and my time at Kanga's cottage was the most relaxing visit I have had. We are very much looking forward for the opportunity to stay there again!

You are surrounded with beautiful bushes,trees,floral vines and 20 foot hedges.The patio provides privacy for reading,coffee in the A.M.,drinks at dinner time.Ten min.walk to the Y.M.C.A,Deli,Bank and a wonderful Bakery shop.Easy trip to the Beach and to Santa Barbara where one can have a choice of some very fine restaurants.Montecito is a paradise and as you walk around the area you are dumbfounded by the magnificence of the landscape Kanga is a prize as your hostess.She provides a very charming and homey atmosphere for your stay as well as guidance to whatever pleases the guests.Kanga has taken the mystery out of what to do where to go what to see -The book is a library of travel knowledge.Great place-Great vacation.

The Perfect Moment!!

Staying at this place is really beyond what words can say. I was looking for a very special place to stay as I had planned on proposing to my girlfriend while we were in the Santa Barbara area in wine country. From the first phone call to Kanga in talking about the place and the Montecito area to our last enjoyable moments there it was the perfect experience. The angels truly were among us at Catching Heaven!! Kanga is such a delightful person to talk to and has lots of passion with her hospitality and info about the area. Enjoying the cozy fireplace, walking up to pure quietness and the birds chirping in the private courtyard, the amount of natural light that fills the space during the day, the ambiance at night, and a view of gentle landscapes and privacy out every window really gives this place the perfect setting and the perfect moment for me. This place to me is a 5+ star and we plan to stay here again when we come to visit the area again. Thanks Kanga for everything you really helped us catch what will be one of the most memorable experiences of our lifetime!

My husband and I were lucky to be able to celebrate our 30th anniversary in Santa Barbara. Kanga made sure we had everything we needed. Her hospitality and wealth of information made it easy to fill up our days. Kanga wants to know ahead of time your interests and based on that she recommeded "Lotusland" to us. It was was the highlight of our trip. The cottage is located in a very beautiful and peaceful neighborhood. So much better than a hotel room with elevators and ice machines! Thank you Kanga.

We absolutely loved staying at the Catching Heaven studio cottage--a very comfortable, intimate & peaceful space filled with beauty, light & a European flavor. Gorgeous decor. The quality of the cottage is consistent with a slice of an upscale lifestyle that met our wishes so we felt right at home here. Kanga, the owner, was very resourceful, helpful, & provided wonderful "personalized service," and with such an uplifting spirit! We felt welcomed with a generous gift basket of wine, organic fruit, & chocolates, & good area info. The kitchen, though small is workable, & well stocked with upscale appliances, cute dishware,coffee, tea, condiments, a little table and chairs-- with a larger space outside for eating, relaxing or entertaining on a quaint private enclosed stone patio as well. We enjoyed the tropical mature landscaping & flowers on this property, consistent with the signature of Montecito. Manning Park is just around the corner. It was delightful walking through this on the way to Pier LaFond Deli in the upper Montecito Shopping Center and the Montecito Y where they keep the pool temperature at a comfy 83 degrees. We used the fireplace on a cooler occasion & the heat and air conditioning does make a difference with changing seasons. The weather was starting to change seasons from spring to summer & we loved being able to open the doors to abundant light & gentle breezes. Kanga told us about some secret walks nearby & good organic food restaurants. Blessings THANK YOU!

Just Like Home (but quiet)

We were lucky enough to stay at Kanga's cottage the week after Christmas. What a perfect place to unwind after the hectic December pace! Kanga is a wonderful hostess who even made our pup feel welcome. The serentity is unmatched. We can't wait to return and often comment that we need to go back to the cottage so we can get some sleep!

Serrendipity led me here, waiting until the last minute to arrange accommodations for a few days and nights of personal retreat. I left it all to the Fates, but thankfully for me, Kanga is the perfect hostess and left nothing to chance. If anyone is familiar with the Bible verse (I forget the reference), "I have prepared for you a place;" those words came to mind immediately, ssuch was this heavenly space, the perfect setting for some much-needed respite. Walking in upon arrival was surreal. Afternoon sun filtering onto the stark white bed linens, green glow of the garden, soft and calm music, lights low, the place warm. I'd never felt so welcome in my life, so taken care of by the room, her efforts and Kanga's big hug and energetic introduction to Montecito and SB. From her custom-made guidebook, the fireplace that took the edge off on a cool night, to the neighborhood delis and cafes, all within 10 min of SB State Street. Quiet, peaceful, safe, comfort of home. A picture-perfect page out of a Pottery Barn catalog! (I mean that in the most flattering sense!) I have not frequented many 5-star hotels in my life, but I would think this rivals the best of them. Perfect mix of private solitude and a hostess's personal care, she knew it without me saying a word. I hope to be back sooner than later.

Kanga's cottage truly is a slice of heaven. Everything is perfectly arranged for privacy, for comfort, and for relaxation. The patio and BBQ made cooking under the stars and quiet romantic dinners.... heavenly! Everything you need is provided, including an excellent hostess who seems to anticipate your moods and needs perfectly. The most beautiful vacation. We will most certainly return.

My husband and I rented this lovely cottage while looking for a home in Santa Barbara and We are certainly glad we did. Kanga, our hostess, thinks of everything. Rooms are immaculate, bedding is luxurious, towels are the softest I have ever used! Everything we needed, and more. We were greeted by Kanga and a lovely basket of fruit and wine. Nice Touch! The patio, a very important "room" in my opinion, is large and private and extremely comfortable; we spent quite a bit of time there when we were able. We stayed two extra days and did not want to leave. We will be back, Kanga, and soon.

This cottage was perfect for my husband and I to enjoy a weeks vacation in such a beautiful setting! We enjoyed being able to sleep in while enjoying the fireplace and breath-taking views of the gardens. Kanga was wonderful, giving us information on the area, where to visit and there was little we didn't see! We would definately visit again!

Above and beyond any expectation. Even before I arrived Kanga was a great help in making my arrival go as smoothly as possible. Her gift basket and note on arrival was such a nice touch. My husband and I spent an incredible week at Catching Heaven in September, 2009. The cottage was cozy, comfortable and had plenty of closet space. It has loads of charm, and it is such a tranquil setting that we found it hard to leave. But once you do venture out, you will find an easy trek to many attractions in the surrounding area. Adjacent to the cottage is Manning Park, a very nice “green” space that is perfect for quiet strolls and picnics. Catching Heaven is situated on a lovely lane, which makes for an easy walk to the Upper Village of Montecito, where we had an excellent dinner at Via Vai Trattoria & Pizzeria. By car, it’s a brief ride to the Coast Village Road where there’s plenty of shopping and a good selection of restaurants. If you are a breakfast and/or pastry fan, you must check out Jeannine’s Bakery, and for the best selection and deals on Vino, we found the local Von’s to be the place to shop. Butterfly Beach is just down the road and is well known as one of the best dog friendly beaches in the area. Kanga's warmth and hospitality is unsurpassed. She was most helpful in recommending the best of Montecito and Santa Barbara. To sum it up, we would highly recommend Catching Heaven and we will definitely stay there again.

We stayed in this gorgeous spot for a long weekend to go to a wedding. This place had everything we needed and more than we could hope for. It was beautiful, comfortable, convenient, and very homey. Our hostess, Kanga, was affable and very helpful. We wanted for nothing while we stayed at her lovely home, but if we had a need, we were confident she'd be able to help us. She unobtrusively provided a great deal of helpful information about Santa Barbara. If you've never gone to the Santa Barbara farmer's market, take a stroll through for every sense to be stimulated. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, and look forward to staying there again. We encourage others not to miss this great place!

this place is the perfect peaceful getaway! away from tourists and traffic, but close to all. Kanga had all the info on places that I would have liked to see ready when I arrived and the hiking was amazing! the beach was so close and there is the most beautiful little park right behind the property. Tropical views from each window and complete silence..except the singing birds...ahh this was heavenly! I will be returning every chance I get!
