Description of the Santa Fe vacation home rental
This is a charming and simple home; plain on the outside, cozy on the inside. The living room with its traditional kiva fireplace, rustic woodstove, and oak and pine floors is a pleasant place to relax. This home is light and airy, yet solid because of the thick adobe walls. The simple kitchen includes a 1960's O'Keeffe & Merritt stove with a griddle, convection/toaster oven, new fridge, coffee maker and stove top expresso, blender for margaritas and everything you need for cooking and serving.
The bedroom has a kiva fireplace and a wall of east facing windows for morning light over the mountains. There is a double bed with linens and duvet. The bedroom annex by the woodstove has a double spring mattress, a small desk and built in closet. The single futon is in a small room off the kitchen and bathroom.
The furnishings are a simple and eclectic combination of antique, modern and thrift fare. Artwork, books and chachkis reflect my interests and travels, so this is not your standard store-bought Santa Fe style home.
There are few electro-gizmos in Bee House, so you will have to explore Anasazi ruins, hike in the mountains, visit the galleries, soak in mineral springs, or drink margaritas on the Plaza instead. There is a Stereo/CD player, a TV without cable and Broadband wireless so you aren't completely cut off! Phone has local service only.
Bee House is located within walking distance of two bus stops, the Rail Runner train to Abq (and airport!) and walking or easy biking distance to the Plaza and the Railyard Park as well as many neighborhood restaurants and galleries. I have two mountain bikes for your use. Please bring your own helmets!
A sustainability or permaculture design for the home and site will be documented over the next year for guest 's edification. All comforts will stay the same. I am a beekeeper so I'll leave a pot of local Santa Fe Garden honey from my beehives on the stove for you.
In the living room is a basket full of gallery guides, local papers for cultural events and information, a hiking guide to borrow and a list of my favorite haunts and other information. I am happy to make recommendations on activities and great spots on Santa Fe. There is so much to do here for a small town that it can make your head spin. There are also games, books and costumes tucked away just in case.
The house will be undergoing a sustainability design and retrofit. Over the coming years, it will have grid-intertied, alternative energy supplied, energy-efficient appliances, a permaculture garden with water harvesting, and other features. It will feature all the same comforts of home but with a smaller carbon footprint. The design and retrofit will be documented for guests to track and learn!
I am a beekeeper and have beehives in Santa Fe. I provide honey for guests and am happy to give you a hive tour. My bees are gentle and productive and are fascinating creatures to observe!
Please see our links below for photos, information on Santa Fe, the house and amenities, availability calendar and detailed rate information and more about Bees!
Enjoy yourselves and have a pleasant relaxing time!
Area Description
People call this neighborhood the SOHO of Santa Fe which locals find amusing. It is really a friendly family neighborhood close to downtown and southwest of the Plaza, SITE Santa Fe, and the New Mexico Indian School and a short stroll from some great local restaurants and hang-outs. The railyard neighborhood still has lots of authentic Santa Fe funkiness and charm, yet it is one of the fastest gentrifying neighborhoods in town.
Modern houses and renovations are cropping up amongst old adobe homes. I share my street with young families with children, grandparents, young professionals and artists, Gus ' barber shop and the occasional low-rider. Artist studios are tucked here and there, and the acequia meanders through the neighborhood (the 200 year old community irrigation ditch that fed the former farms of Santa Fe!) The house is within walking distance of a popular café, Counter Culture, and other local haunts for New Mexican fare.
We feel strongly about preserving the family nature of the neighborhood since we live right here and love it, so we hope you will respect it was well.
Thanks and looking forward to hearing from you!

The Bee House is full of wonderful quirky things and in every room you'll come across odd collections. There's a balalaika hanging on the wall in the living room, where a miniature orchid lives in a glass dome, in serene harmony with books, board games and handmade throw pillows.
The kitchen contains a massive white ceramic boar, perhaps as a cookie jar but none of us were brave enough to stick our hands into its head and investigate. There are tiles in the kitchen, on the floor and on the walls. One look at the kitchen and you know, without a doubt, that you are in Santa Fe. On the window sill over the sink, there lives a grand deep purple orchid. And yes, it did get our attention, even with the myriad of jars, bottles, tins, and pans lining the shelves, begging us to explore.
The back room has books and an interesting collection of photos. It also has the most comfortable bed any of us had ever slept in. And the curtains are a rust-colored open weave linen. And there, in the windows, is an orchid with miniature petals the exact same shade as the curtains. It was a delicate and beautiful touch.
Photographic stills of the Three Stooges decorate the bathroom, along with a collection of silly eyeglasses. Why? We never really questioned it, just accepted it as part of the charm of the place and let it be.
We spent four days in the Bee House and found it to be delightful. Amy took very good care of us and made sure that we had all we might need. There was even honey from the bees provided for us. It is an easy house in which to be comfortable. I felt at ease from the first moment I stepped into the sun-filled living room to the last check under my wonderfully comfortable bed to make sure nothing was left behind. It was only four days, but I felt as if I were home the entire time. This is not a fancy, luxurious resort, but a quaint old house that feels like a home, full of peace and comfort.
